He was brilliant, his music, lyrics, the way he played the guitar, his voice, a unique soul. I wish He would know how much his music is loved today.

Been really trying to get into Nick Drake, and I mean really trying. I should like him, because I love acoustic folk/jazz/blues of the era, I love Syd Barrett's solo stuff, but I just don't see what's so great about Drake. He's not a great guitarist, he's not a great singer, and his songs are not instant genius. Maybe it's just the whole persona people get into, the mystique of him and his depression and how he died young, I dunno.......

His guitar playing, specifically his fingerpicking was very technically impressive and is difficult to emulate. Listen to River Man, Far Leys or this song. It’s definitely not just a persona thing. I should really like Van Morrison but I don’t, doesn’t mean I don’t recognize his talent.

When I first started listening to Nick's music, I remember thinking, "who's the other guitarist?"

I've perhaps said this in a half dozen other Nick Drake video comments, but…

I credit my discovery of Nick Drake to Volkswagen… for that "Pink Moon" Cabriolet commercial back in the late '90s. The first time I saw, I thought to myself. "My god! WHO IS THAT? WHAT IS THAT SONG???". Had it not been for that commercial, I may never have discovered Nick Drake—at least not when I did. I visited the VW site to try and find their latest ad campaigns... and there it was! "Song: Pink Moon. Artist: Nick Drake". I went straight out to the record shop and snatched-up the "Way To Blue" compilation CD. The rest is history.

So, once again.... thank you, Volkswagen!

I love Nick's playing here and his voice is great as usual. But IMHO he outdid himself with these lyrics. Someone else here used the term spellbinding, and I agree completely. My personal favorite of all his great songs.

I intepret this to mean: if you have become aware of something,awakened,etc.; don't shy away from it or b frightened.but instead embrace whatever truth you may have awakened to about ourselves,others,our realm,etc.

Nick's music is so unique..I became immediately drawn into it..I just feel sorry he had so much sadness especially in his later years..He had so much to say...Some of us have taken the time to listen..

I originally heard the mars volta's version of this song as i was trying to sleep and i had to find out what the name of this song was. It woke me up out whatever level of sleep i was in and i knew that this was a song i didn't want to forget. Both versions are absolutely splendid. After hearing this for a tenth time i felt the same emotions i did when i first heard this, but after reading the lyrics i had to actually let out a few tears. This man had such a way of grasping your attention. RIP dude, your music still lives on.

P.S. Can anyone recommend tracks? I had this on repeat and i think im ready to move on lol.

Nick was truly a unique and beautiful artist who although gone at just 26 years of age wrote many gems but loathed performing, he was painfully shy. Northern Sky is lovely, Leaving Me Behind (heartbreaking knowing Nick’s story), Parasite (an astute observation imo) Riverman, Day Is Done, Hazey Jane, there are so many as you’ve no doubt discovered by now. Nick’s sister Gabrielle has seen his gorgeous music re-released so it’s wonderful to know folks are finally getting into this most gifted of poets/musicians.

A second or a year its all the same... it's now.
