Rundgren, Todd - Change Myself Lyrics

Half of me wants to knock you out
Half of me wants to tell you that I'm sorry, so sorry
Meanwhile, half of the world wants to scream and
Shout at half of the world
Just like you and i
Just another fact of life
We plan and we scheme
'til there's nothing left of our little dream
But half of the time I can't decide and
Half of the time I'm petrified

I want to change the world
I want to make it well
How can I change the world
When I can't change myself
Try again tomorrow
I'd love to change your mind
Capture your citadel
How could I change your mind

If I can't change myself
Try again tomorrow

Both of us want to win this fight
Both of us think the other is mistaken, so mistaken
Meanwhile, everyone wants to take up sides
So everyone helps us to fall apart
Just another fact of life
It's hard to play fair
And it's so easy to pretend to care
But if nobody wants to share the blame
Then everyone gets more of the same

If I want more peace in the world
Then I must make peace with myself
If I want more trust in the world
Then I've got to trust in myself
If I want more love in the world
I must show more love to myself

  4. b.... ....

Todd's ode to nursing homes everywhere. On a serious note, this is a great song (currently my #2 fav Toddie  song).

    好きな曲です(^^)メロディも良いし、トッドのvo.が滑らかでソウルフルに歌い上げていて聴いていて心地よいですね♪

  8. O.... ....

    Yes this is overwhelming Grace

At the time, TR was using a stack of a dozen top-of-the-line boxes to create this. They processed data so slowly, he had the stack so he could continuous create and not wait for the bytes. Proof anew that talent *uses* tech, does not *rely* on it.

Beautiful video what a creative man. Voting daily for him in the r and r hall a fame. The lyrics are so right.

Thanks for taking the time to post the lyrics!

    So perfectly Todd. I remember.

  17. g.... ....

Pennyfarthing bicycle and #6. Anyone else get that reference?

  18. o.... ....

So much genius in one body.

  19. b.... ....

The bridge has some of the most inspiring lyrics Todd has ever written. And after all these years, the video is still thrilling. Thanks, Todd. 🖤💙

  20. l.... ....

Aesthetically it's awful. Groundbreaking yes, great song, yes.

  21. M.... O....

    cheesy lame song

    M.... O....

i was 3 when this was released, so yeah, i think it's cheesy too. but lame? i dunno about that. i think it's pretty great. and when you account for the fact that the singer created this video himself in 1991, it's even more impressive. he was a renaissance man!

    M.... O....

Great song in my opinion. At least it has a good message. What do you listen to?

  22. E.... V....

    video toaster!

  23. t.... ....

Todd is Godd... And you are doing His work, my friend. :-)

  24. S.... C....

m4dp4rrot: Good call there, as a "Prisoner" fan (and apparently Todd) it most certainly is. You might have noticed earlier the dueling Umbrellas which is a reference to "The Avengers", which was another British show in the 60's. My bad it was in July I saw Todd for the umpteepth time. Not August.

  25. S.... C....

Done on a toaster, way back in the day, A true "Wizard" so glad I saw him last month in Dallas. Just a great SHOW.

  26. R.... W....

What he does starting at 2:38 will raise hairs! Gorgeous, thoughtful song circa 1990.

  27. m.... ....

Prisoner reference at 3:33 - a pennyfarthing bicycle (symbol of the Village) riding on a 6 ball (main character's number) while he sings about changing someone's mind (whole series was about attacking Number 6's mind, and there was an episode titled "A Change of Mind")

  28. T.... L....

I still have a working Amiga 2000 and 3000! Still love some of those games more than a lot of the current stuff...

  29. S.... &....

One of his best ever, and he's had a ton of them

  30. K.... j....

Todd. Always on the cutting edge of cheesy video effects.

    K.... j....

@Kona jinx Looks cheesy *now*, but I was in 3D computer animation at the time, and this was cutting edge. I was an Amiga owner, and I could hardly believe that this was done on Amigas.

For instance, none of the computers rendering frames were networked - the equipment just didn't exist. So every computer had to render to SCSI connected hard drives, and be "sneaker-netted" over to another computer. And there was no equipment to play this video back, so each frame had to be recorded to videotape - one - frame - at - a - time. Rewind the tape, start it playing, edit in one frame. Call up the next frame, rinse, repeat. It was such a pain, and until they assembled it, they had no idea that the captured video mapped onto the surfaces would lip sync!

The programmer from NewTek who created the 3D animation software Lightwave actually went out to San Francisco to tweak the software to do the stuff Todd was trying.

    K.... j....

3D DOMESTIC computer, this has to be said, although Todd had 10 Amigas in ScreamerNet, those were common Amigas, domestic machines, that is the factor!

  31. x.... ....

Saw this ages ago on VHS tape.  Been looking for a good version to appear on teh interwebz, thank you!

    x.... ....

xheralt computer animation vol 1. I had the VHS too 😀

    x.... ....

Wow what a throwback! I fondly remember watching that VHS with my dad when I was a kid. One of those songs that always stuck with me.

  32. S.... R....

He made this with a dozen Amiga's with Video Toasters. At the time it might have cost him $50,000 in equipment to make 1 video that he could use to make more. If he did the same quality at a video effects studio probably would have cost him $200,000 for 1 video. At the time.

    S.... R....

Rundgren's initial outlay was about $100,000, but with that he could do what a big studio would spend a million dollars doing. After that it was only pennies per minute for production. Now anyone can do this on a laptop with a MIDI keyboard. Ain't life grand?

    S.... R....

Seems like the best art more often then not comes from when the medium is more limited and expensive. Now there's all this inexpensive technology and 99% of the time people use it for none-sense.

    S.... R....

    Boy done good

    S.... R....

Yes! I posted the same history ^^^ before I read yours. Extraordinary talent!
