Rundgren, Todd - Can We Still Be Friends Lyrics

We can't play this game anymore
But can we still be friends?
Things just can't go on like before
But can we still be friends?
We had something to learn
Now it's time for the wheel to turn
Grains of sand, one by one
Before you know it, all gone

Let's admit we made a mistake
But can we still be friends?
Heartbreak's never easy to take
But can we still be friends?
It's a strange, sad affair
Sometimes seems like we just don't care
Don't waste time feeling hurt
We've been through hell together

(La la lala la la lalala
Can we still be friends?)
Can we still get together sometime
(La la lala la la lalala
Can we still be friends?)
You know life will still go on and on and on

We awoke from our dream
Things are not always what they seem
Memories linger on
It's like a sweet, sad old song

Hey Guys I'm listening to Todd Rungren and all his songs old and new. I seen him in concert over the past summer and he was great, ....as usual. And YO, you who was introduced to him at a young age, well then you had the privilege of hearing his beautiful voice and music. Someday you will see that theres always a criticism of your generation too. You'll see as you get older your music preferences will be downsized by another youth. The thing that's really important is to keep your mind into older things instead of what's new. You'd be surprised how you also will be happy to know what was instead of what is.........😎

Todd has a special affinity for "finding the heart" in his music and writing.

    How is it possible?

    Is it magic?

  85. Don Dee

ROBERT PALMER covered this song one year later in 1979.  Oddly, the SIRRUS RADIO station YACHT ROCK plays the RP version more often than the original TOOD RUNDGREN version.

  86. Margit Ouma

I remember this from Vanilla Sky with Tom Cruise. It was so eearingly beautiful and stuck with me ever since. Great movie.

  87. John923T

An immergence of this song which would bring out points from our relationships brought together with very fine lyrics combined with music that touches ones soul & conscience. A time almost closing the 70's..."1978" …..Wow 41 years have passed and this song still makes you feel every lyric.

  88. Frederick Glasser

This afternoon, I was chauffeuring an elderly aunt. We were listening to Robert Palmer's version. Of course she'd never heard the song. But the magic and beauty of the musical composition attracted her. And I got a chance to tell her about the genius of Todd.
