Runaways, The - Trash Can Murders Lyrics

You've got me runnin' round in circles
Tied my little brothers to a railroad track
In the black of the night you sit and pant
Crammed them all together in a plastic bag
You're a night prowler, you're a night howler, yeh

Trash can murders
In the black of night
Trash can murders
When will it be alright

Walk the streets and you're dressed in black
You tied their hands behind their backs
That's cold yeh, ya know it's true
Just wait and see what happens to you
You're a night prowler, you're a night howler, yeh

Trash can murders
In the black of night
Trash can murders
When will it be alright

I can hear him scream, it's midnight
In the alley like a Chinese cat
I've got a hatchet gonna take your life
Oh yeh, tell me, what ya think of that
I'm a night prowler, I'm a night howler yeh

Trash can murders
In the black of night
Trash can murders
When will it be alright

Runaways, The Trash Can Murders Comments

Look at the last pic. Two left feet on the pavement in front of the line. Three right feet behind the line, all at the same time.

  2. m.... b....

    produced by the Germs

  3. M.... ....

I love it so freaking much

  4. H.... C....

    This song is kinda punky.

    H.... C....

Hans Carlson It’s their most punkiest album

I'm so confused, when listening to the Runaways songs that Lita Ford wrote herself- like this one- because her lyrics are right in-line with the singer-songwriter Folk types she probably dislikes! In other words, whereas Joan's lyrics focus more on first-person feelings, Lita's lyrics with this band are more conceptual. I'd say that Lita's lyrics comprise the most "high concept" songs of all the Runaways music. And that would probably surprise a lot of people who don't think of Lita Ford as a sophisticated storyteller-lyricist. But, she is. Or, at least she was with this band! What confuses me is why she doesn't write like this more.

*When Joan jett was lead vocal that was my favourite phase of the runaways*

    C.... P....

Yeah this was My favorite album from them. But I did love Cheri too. They were a important band when I was a middle school rocker LOL . Still love em.

    C.... P....

No she sucked!Cherie was a way better singer and still is.

  7. L.... S....

I love Cherie Currie as much as the next gal, but she is not on this album. That would be Joan Jett singing.

  8. A.... R....

if they could have only kept jackie, and got rid off cherri sooner

    A.... R....

Andrew Russell That makes no sense

    A.... R....

Andrew Russell why should have they done that?

What a mindfuck these lyrics are! I hadn't heard this song before - I'm too young to have lived through the '70's, and my first exposure to the Runaways was by way of the admittedly silly 2010 Runaways movie, with Dakota Fanning, in which this song certainly did *not* feature - but now that I've heard it, it's blown mind, and rather changed my view of what kind of band the Runaways were. I may be going out on a limb here, but isn't this song - with its murderous title, and its evocations of "...the back of the night.../I can hear him screamin', it's midnight/In the alley, like a Chinese cat..." - almost *Goth* ? At least, in lyrics, if not in vocal style or guitar-chords? After all, the lyrics above could have come out of something by Siouxsie and the Banshees, or the "Phantasmagoria"(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GhohJbL8o68)-era Damned. Couldn't they?
Whatever "Trash Can Murders" might be, I find it a refreshing change from the likes of "Cherry Bomb" and "You Drive Me Wild." I didn't know Lita Ford had it in her; writing a song like this.

    E.... H....

It wasn't in the movie because the movie was based on Currie's memoirs and this record - Waiting for the Night, the band's best album - came out after she left the group. By this time, Joan, Sandi and Lita had honed some serious chops, and their friendship with the Sex Pistols (three of whom backed Joan Jett on her debut EP demo after the Runaways broke up) really shows on this record.

  10. M.... B....

    i love y'all girls alwayz

  11. E.... H....

I wouldn't say the band was better "without Cherie", more like...they evolved. It wasn't Cherie quitting that made the band better. But yeah, they were better later.

    E.... H....

But Cherie WAS the Runways! She and Joan were the soul of the group.

    E.... H....

@Elizabeth Hann Joan Jett and Lita Ford where the soul of the group.

    E.... H....

    @MiguelUrrut DarkOrangeFan Well, maybe...
    All right, you're right😊.

    E.... H....

MiguelUrrut DarkOrangeFan sandy was an amazing drummer too, that band was perfect for me, I love em all; I loved even the first songs with micky at the vocals

  12. T.... D....

I love Lita's guitar solo on this tune.

  13. M.... ....

They were a much better band without Cheri...

    M.... ....

Cherie was the Runaways and had a great voice! When she left it was over because Joan couldnt sing at all at the time but she got better when she got older.

  14. G.... E....

ive been looking for ages for chords of this song... if you can find them pleeeease tell me thank you

  15. G.... F....

plus without Jackie Fox on bass, she did some funny sounding playing. Viki Blue is a much better bass player, She sounds like she know's what she is doing. This is very good for 77, most music you hear from then sounds so old & boring now.

  16. c.... ....

Yes, this band was way ahead of its time, and definitely more talented than a lot of bands, then and now!....They were young, raw talent, that was expoited, but at the time, thats what a band usually did, and as women, were never taken seriously, and hardly ever got any air play....Yes, almost every one of their songs, are great, and hard not to play, at full volume!

  17. D.... ....

she was blonde in the last year of the runaways as well

  18. M.... ....

A lot of people don't wanna admit this... but the were a better band without Cherrie...

    M.... ....

    MemphoWrasslin1 true Joan jett vocals

    M.... ....

Well, who's going to dispute that? Cherie Currie is a good singer but Joan Jett is a rock legend for a reason. Besides, both Jett and Lita Ford were both improving as songwriters by the time this came out.

    M.... ....

Not even close.Joan Jett couldnt sing here to save her life.Cherie had a great voice and Joan no!

  19. S.... M....

Great song .. Great pics ... But can anything compare to the intro guitar? Lots of midrange and played choked high up on the neck.... classic tone. The whole album had it ..

  20. F.... ....

    i love this song! :)

  21. J.... M....
