Roxy Music - Pyjamarama Lyrics

Couldn't sleep a wink last night
Oh how I'd love to hold you tight
They say you have a secret life
Made sacrifice your key to paradise
Never mind, take the world by storm
Just boogaloo a rhapsody divine
Take a sweet girl just like you
How nice if only we could bill and coo
I may seem a fool to you for ev'rything I say or think or do
How could I apologise for all those lies
The world may keeps us far apart but up in heaven, angel
You can have my heart
Diamonds may be your best friend
But like laughter after tears
I'll follow you to the end

  1. H.... S....

All the lights we´re from you my darling,

  2. W.... S....

I guess I'm lost. I thought this was the Led Zeppelin channel.

  3. k.... p....

    Guitar solo at the end...

  4. k.... p....

    makes me cry

  5. S.... C....

Roxy Music... The only band that mattered~!

  6. J.... B....

But like laughter after tears I'll follow you TO THE END...

  7. r.... m....

    Brilliant Band!!!

  8. d.... ....

Probably the best pop song ever written ever, cant think of many better

  9. K.... B....

How come this band has never gotten the full credit it deserves? Maybe that's the way it should be? A band you find in the dark.

    K.... B....

They were too talented for the great unwashed to understand.

  10. c.... w....

Went on holiday in 73 with my parents and godfather and his family to Cornwall.. Caravan holiday and this was on the jukebox in a little cafe / hut played it non stop at probably 10p a go .

  11. D.... 7....

Take the beard off and cut his hair and Phil would look 12.

  12. S.... C....

I can't turn this song up loud enough.

  13. S.... C....

    The only band that Matters..
I can't turn this up loud enough.

  14. J.... B....

I have so many superlatives for Bryan. But it's Phil Manzanera who steals the show here. Oh God, this I my favourite Roxy song, the live version from "Viva!" I read this little quip on the net [wherelze?] "The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin destroyed hotel rooms. Roxy Music wanted to redecorate them."

  15. Z.... ....

Those opening chords by Phil slay me!!!

  16. p.... v....

The whole Musikladen set is stellar, but this is brilliant with the slowed-down tempo.

  17. A.... A....

    cracking

  18. d.... g....

Great performance - the tone of the guitar chords at the start is wonderful

    d.... g....

    Those opening chords kill me...

  19. P.... M....

Buenísimo!!!! Mejor que la versión de estudio. Ese Andy McKay!!!

  20. C.... ....

This song makes me feel like the absolute need to be again with my ex-girlfriend

  21. A.... W....

It gets better the more times you play it. A rare song. Mint.

  22. K.... S....

3:32 appears to be playing the saxophone but I can't seem to hear it.

    K.... S....

Andy Mackay appears to switch from alto sax on his solo to a baritone sax during the guitar solo 2:51 -- playing along with the bass line, kind of buried in the mix.

  23. D.... R....

Saw them 3x in mid-70’s . Slightly less raw than this and with a little more polish but still transplendant. Still knocks me out.

  24. s.... s....

Oh to have this wardrobe today, from any or all of them!

  25. L.... K....

That may be the single crappiest sax solo I've ever heard.

  26. d.... k....

i cant listen to this fuck in white tuxedo couses in me the cognitive disorder

  27. R.... r....

    am lovely play song ♣

  28. K.... W....

Anyone listening in 2017? Still a fantastic track of music. Roxy were not just lyrically brilliant, they were fantastic musicians. Still are!!

    K.... W....

    listening in 2019!

  29. D.... H....

Love these videos and flawless performances

  30. t.... ....

Flash, a-ah, saviour of the universe!

  31. B.... ....

Couldn't sleep a wink last night
Oh how I'd love to hold you tight
They say you have a secret life
Made sacrifice your key to paradise
Never mind, take the world by storm
    Just boogaloo a rhapsody divine
Take a sweet girl just like you
How nice if only we could bill and coo

    You can have my heart
Diamonds may be your best friend
    But like laughter after tears
I'll follow you to the end

  32. T.... ....

    Purely the best track ever

  33. T.... J....

A slightly slower tempo really changes the whole mood of this song.

  34. K.... B....

what is great on this... almost ZERO producer work on it. it's dreadfully perfectly raw.... garage band level, shows what Roxy's core was.... takes them about 30 seconds to catch up with each other ...

thank you sir, I'll have another.

  35. f.... ....

    So good.

  36. G.... B....

Great that the Germans saw fit to document and preserve this performance, of a throwaway tune that was initially found only on the B-side of a 45. No lip-synching here, and yet in spite of that all the instrumentation can be heard loud and clear. Excellent.

    G.... B....

B-side? It was their second single in the UK. Great song.

  37. R.... D....

I can't describe classic music, but I know it when I hear it and Roxy Music has IT.

  38. S.... ....

Don't care for this song but what an ending here!

  39. L.... M....

    Pure Brilliance

  40. P.... R....

    "They say you had,
    a secret life,
    made the sacrifice,
    for paradise."

In the same lyric genre as Every Dream Home....but less depressed.

  41. C.... K....

I wonder what the ReVox A77 tape recorder is doing?

    C.... K....

    @Columba Kos Recording perhaps ?....

    C.... K....

Its probably being used as a tape delay/processing as were their wont

    C.... K....

Where a lot of those strange timbres come from

  42. M.... P....

Hugely important band who wrote and performed brilliant songs.

  43. n.... ....

    Andy ♥

  44. M.... S....

If only I had a time machine I could go back and watch this live. Just an amazing track and I still play it today.

    M.... S....

LOL....I'm German + watched it live on German TV back then !!!!! Me + my school friends + my first gay male lover were ALL huge Roxy Music fans !!!!

  45. W.... D....

Brilliant version of the song. Ferry takes a back seat, just doing his vocals and then cruising all over the stage; Manzanera solos superbly.

  46. j.... ....

they should have slowed the tempo of the original single cos its excellent but two short, or increased the tempo of this attempt cos they've fucked it up. I cant understand they played this live version so wrong, just about the only guy who did his part correct was the drummer and the abcent eno.

  47. g.... ....

    Go Andy Mackay!
    Fantastic song! Fantastic band!

  48. a.... ....

Thank you for all the great Roxy videos, CitizenGatsby! Just saw the man himself live in Seattle and can't seem to come back to earth...

  49. t.... ....

Of course... so, you hear a resemblance too?

  50. P.... S....

This is awesome. EVen though Eno isn't there, it's still awesome. Plus, Eno may be missing, but Eddie's got a Mellotron. You win some, you lose some.

  51. t.... ....

    Love it.

(... & it reminds me a little bit of Planet Telex in some parts)

  52. T.... ....

roxy music really showed that they had arrived with that intro.

  53. K.... ....

Thanks for the correction...It's been a long time but I felt sure what I posted was accurate? (getting old I guess). I'll remove the post.

  54. G.... G....

I'm afraid that's not right. Virginia Plain (released 8/1972) had an instrumental called The Numberer as the B-side and made #4 on the chart. Pyjamarama was an original, non-album single released in March 1973 (the same month as the For Your Pleasure LP) and made # 10.

  55. S.... ....

Totally ultra-cool, a little weird and completely original!!! No wonder I dig Roxy!!

  56. S.... ....

I'm convinced that Roxy Music doesn't get the credit they deserve...truely original.

  57. J.... L....

I have always loved this song. In the 1970's people never understood what I saw in Roxy Music. I think they're all rethinking their opinions.

    J.... L....

And now they're in the R&R HOF. About time!

  58. S.... O....

    Agree Vjkk

  59. V.... K....

    Pure class .... absolutely fantastic

  60. o.... ....

Now my pants are all sticky

  61. W.... L....

Its one of the best songs ever ... feel the spirit of Brian and Bryan ... style building for the next decades and still now

  62. l.... ....

I noticed that the bass guitar was turned right up in this performance. At the time I thought they were off form playing live but were playing in a different style to the album so that those who had the albums wouldn't get bored.

  63. O.... N....

This is an amazing video and a great version of the song that is new to me. I love it!
    Thank You Citizen Gatsby!

  64. h.... ....

wow, excellent upload, and this is what real live proper music is all about..i have to say that performance was outstanding, no wonder they went on to be the first class band that everyone came to know..just shows what can be achieved when theres musicians that can actually play !!!! and play live well ...awesome.....

  65. 4.... ....

Nice to see (Hear) not only studio perfection but amazing creative tight live playing.

  66. L.... C....

Roxy, pure class. Superb version of a great introductory record.

  67. H.... ....

    Pyjama. Rama

  68. M.... S....

This Musikladen set is AMAZING. Thank you so much for posting.

  69. D.... D....

This jam never gets old. Bryan Ferry is ageless and Roxy Music are timeless!!

  70. C.... ....

@xwagner76 Glad you enjoyed this. :)

  71. C.... ....

    @carreenw Oh cool. That's great. :)

  72. C.... ....

@CitizenGatsby Oops! I got into Roxy in August, not September. It's all a blur of amazingness. LOL

  73. C.... ....

@carreenw Hey thanks, carreen. Citizen Kane is my favorite film and The Great Gatsby is my favorite book; hence, CitizenGatsby. :)

So glad to hear you're a recent convert to Roxy Music and Bryan Ferry, too. That's awesome! I just got into RM back in Sept. Killer music it is indeed. Ever since I saw "Mother of Pearl" on Musikladen (BF blew me away!), I have been completely obsessed. I'm listening to BF right now, in fact. LOL I saw him live in Oakland in Oct. The man has still got it! *swoon*

  74. C.... ....

@carreenw I couldn't agree with you more. :) This live version of "Pyjamarama" is a definite improvement over the original studio version—not that the studio version is bad at all—and much sexier. I've watched this more times than I can count. It's so fantastic. And I love Bryan Ferry's dancing all over the stage. hahahaha

    C.... ....

I like this much more than the original. Phil is awesome, and I've always been crazy about Paul Thompson...
