Roxy Music - Do The Strand Lyrics

There's a new sensation
A fabulous creation
A danceable solution
To teenage revolution
Do the Strand love
When you feel love
It's the new way
That's why we say
Do the Strand
Do it on the tables
Quaglino's place or Mabel's
Slow and gentle
Sentimental
All styles served here
Louis Seize he prefer
Laissez-faire Le Strand
Tired of the tango
Fed up with fandango
Dance on moonbeams
Slide on rainbows
In furs or blue jeans
You know what I mean
Do the Strand
Had your fill of Quadrilles
The Madison and cheap thrills
Bored with the Beguine
The samba isn't your scene
They're playing our tune
By the pale moon
We're incognito
Down the Lido
And we like the Strand
Arabs at oasis
Eskimos and Chinese
If you feel blue
Look through Who's Who
See La Goulue
And Nijinsky
Do the Strandsky
Weary of the Waltz
And mashed potato schmaltz
Rhododendron
Is a nice flower
Evergreen
It lasts forever
But it can't beat Strand power
The Sphynx and Mona Lisa
Lolita and Guernica
Did the Strand

  7. L.... M....

    Who's here from Death Stranding

  8. r.... ....

Otherworldly. A band out of time and place. How were they even doing this in 1972, the era of Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath. Sui Generis

  9. d.... o....

Brian Eno is in his own remarkable world.

  10. L.... ....

Rocks on so many levels. I am a better person to have lived during this part of Roxy Music's life.

  15. P.... Y....

  16. s.... a....

If you think this is music it ain't ....

  17. R.... R....

Morrissey favs got me here .

  18. S.... W....

Great track and performance. Bryan Ferry always looks stoned, and I love Brian Eno's jacket. I'd love to wear that going around Tesco.

  19. s.... 1....

Class stuff. Better than the gangsta bullshit of 2019.

  20. D.... M....

    One of their best

and Brian Eno !!! Bryan Ferry's interpretation is géniale !!!! "and Nijinsky do the Stranski "

  22. C.... S....

    Brilliant

  23. M.... ....

This really is as good as it gets, absolutely fantastic.

  24. A.... H....

They've all dressed to be in different bands - I love it!

  25. a.... ....

I can never see Bryan Ferry in a sweatshirt, jeans and trainers - the man just oozes class. He’s so dapper in his sharp suits.

    a.... ....

T-shirt and jeans. Here you go! :))

    a.... ....

Style personified. I saw him three times in Sydney, got chanted six times. Style king.

  26. T.... ....

Saw them in London playing on the same show as Bowie doing Ziggy. What a night! (Yes, both acts were fantastic.)

    T.... ....

Bowie is overrated, Roxy on the other hand underrated.

  27. S.... H....

When group members in music act could not only write the song but be able to play actual musical instruments

  28. n.... ....

Is this the first pop/rock record to include the word 'rhodedendron' in the lyrics? (Rhodedendron is a nice flower...)

    n.... ....

    No.

  36. a.... b....

The grand tour led me here

  37. L.... D....

The Grand Tour got me here

  38. D.... A....

Song just oozes class. I just wish some bands nowadays had the craftsmanship and talent of a band like this.

    D.... A....

The best band of ALL TIME! Ferry oozes class, Eno, Manzanera and the incredible sax of Andy McKay. 50 years ahead of their time.

  39. L.... E....

    Brilliant! I love shakey!!

  40. E.... L....

    Bryan Ferry is beautiful. 🎼

  41. W.... M....

    Monster mash in a suit

    W.... M....

    or Count Chocula

    W.... M....

@wjlepetomane Just today I called Ferry the glam rock count chocula

  42. M.... ....

This was before he built his house out of bus tickets

  43. F.... ....

Been listening to Roxy music since 1982.. They were nouveau back then, and oddly, nouveau now.

    F.... ....

    You missed ten years then...

  44. T.... A....

If David Byrne of the Talking Heads had a baby with Willy Wonka, it would be Brian Ferry...

    T.... A....

yeah...but Brian was wa-a-a-y ahead of all those. I'm not sure Wonka was written even then and it would be a decade or so til talking heads.

    T.... A....

Mark Doney-Mccloud Wasn’t Roxy Music and Talking Heads contemporaries?

    T.... A....

Not at all, last album by Roxy Music was released two years after the fourth of Talking Heads, which was the last produced by Brian Eno, ex--member of Roxy Music

  45. S.... J....

Eno.. well beening Eno.... Ferry is class in this...and we like the strand.

    S.... J....

Stephen Jackson Eno is always Eno

  46. c.... ....

James Delos and his uber cool dance brought me here.

  47. K.... M....

One of my most favourite songs! Rocking to Roxy for 30 odd years since I was a kid.

  49. L.... ....

    Tony Bourdain got me here.

  50. W.... ....

Is this actually live? Look at where Ferry says "Strand" at the very end. Sound and his lips do not appear to match.

    W.... ....

    Warrogue1
This is definitely the recording and Ferry is definitely attempting to lip sync ... I’ve seen this a few times live and it’s much more manic

    W.... ....

Jeff Neiss so many videos from the '60s and '70s are synched that you really have to look carefully. I believe some of Roxy's Musikladen videos from '73 and '74 are live. I have watched them several times. Please correct me if I am wrong.

    W.... ....

@Warrogue1 While I can't comment on the other videos from Roxy Music, this one is definitely a lip sync over the album version. It's note for note the album version, and there's a couple of times where Brian Ferry's lips don't quite match up to the sound.

    W.... ....

So what. Just enjoy the music 🎶😀👍

  51. F.... ....

    Westworld led me here

    F.... ....

Me too! I'm a glam rock fan, but I never paid attention to this band in the 70's. I never realized what I was missing.

    F.... ....

And it should lead you away from here. Blech.

    F.... ....

I've been a fan of this band for 40 years. This was one of the first songs I ever heard by them back in the 1970's.

  52. U.... ....

F****** Westworld LOL. Dance Jimmy dance

  53. P.... ....

this was the 1st record i bought, age 11.

  54. C.... E....

Is the sax player the one who played on Hazel Onconnor's Eighth Day?

  55. W.... ....

    Thanks for this!

  56. h.... a....

It s only Rock n roll AND I AM GLAD THEY GET THE BEAT ! GREAT

  57. d.... ....

If this is your first time hearing Roxy - please - look away. Take the music for the sound first. Once you know it, let the Brians Ferry and Eno clash your retinas, but only then.

    d.... ....

Well, so you are trying to fanboy flamebait someone over the supposed objectivity of Ferry's visual appearance? I suppose if you go watch some HR Puffin Stuff you'll forget all about it. I happen to think that with this kind of music, the sound is more important than the looks, but dwell on what you like.

    d.... ....

+dgetzin well yes obviously all I mean is he's not so weird he'll "crash your retinas". you accused him of being unattractive - I was just standing up for him.

    d.... ....

Well, that is a noble intent you have, I'm sure Ferry can take it, but did I ever call him ugly? I didn't even use the word "crash." Ferry was once quoted as saying that they dressed outlandishly in order to visually express what the music sounded like. They may or may not have been been correct, but the visual signal is very distinct from the audio.

    d.... ....

Vie he means appreciate the quality of their music first, even i worked out he wasnt meaning anything bad by ferry n enos appearance

    d.... ....

Yep. Good call. Video killed the radio star!
