Ross, Diana - O Holy Night Lyrics

Oh holy night
The stars are brightly shining
It is the night of our dear saviours birth

Long lay the world
In sin and error pining
Til he appeared
And the soul felt it's worth

A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn

Fall on your knees
Oh hear the angels voices
Oh night divine
Oh night, oh night, oh night
Oh night divine

A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn
Fall on your knees
Oh hear the angel voices
Oh night divine
Oh night when christ was born
Oh night, oh night, oh night
Oh night divine

Ross, Diana O Holy Night Comments

She has always had & still maintains a BEAUTIFUL voice. Magnetic and beautiful. She has sung just about every type of music out there and done a supremely credible job. Not every black singer has to sound like they came straight from the gospel choir. Even though she has sung gospel well too. Nor do you have to have to scream loud and hold long notes like you are running a marathon. That is NOT what singing is really about. In that regard, I won't name some singers who have been very much OVER RATED. There is a reason her record breaking career has reached more people and lasted longer than any type of singer you can mention. Her powerful stage presence alone drowns out practically ALL of the other divas whose voices are louder but lack the angelic megawatt star quality of Ms. Ross.

And you hear people say Diana can't sing and she doesn't have range ,o yes she does have range and can sing and she still have depth even while she's obviously is not giving it her full throated vocals & she doesn't have to, at this point and time in her life if you don't get it by now that she is quite capable you probably won't get it & she can just keep it pushing . And once again she has climbed the vocal register going up high on Noel I'm not sure what that note is but I do know it was very high all while not screaming or hollering , smoothly taking the unassuming listener into her high registers all without you realizing you're high in the clouds thinking this woman doesn't have range . I don't think an F#5 or C5 or an A5 is nothing to sneeze at those some pretty high notes you hear so many other singers get praise for Diana does it to only difference is she's at those high notes all while smiling and or walking gracefully across the stage like she did nothing ,& she probably just hit an A3 and others that do it have to stop in there tracks and frown and scream ,& holler.

TheReturnoStephan1  below. is a bitter old DR critic who trolls the internet picking apart her vocals and instructing her how she should sing.. listen you delusional ex-drag queen, DR is doing just fine singing the way she wants too you bitch.

the only thing wrong with this version is the horrible elevator music..diane's vocals are better than i expected but what possessed her to use this gawd awful orchestration?

Florence did do a version of O Holy Night but it was awkward and with odd breath choices. She was very young. Florence's soprano voice was good but her version is not that great, in my opinion. Ross has finesse and nuance Florence did not possess but had she lived and become a more experienced vocalist she may have been a superb singer.

@miss birdsong Florence voice was untouched this was recorded and CLEARLY re-dubbed what in the 80's...the background singers is the "finesse" you hear NOT Diana...the high notes IF they are even Diana took 100's of takes for her to push out of her ashy vocal cords. Florence was a ONE take talent...It is my belief that Barry had Florence killed or she was Diana Ross blood sacrifice in order to become a star. Florence, Mary and DIANE...grow up together they were BEST friends like sisters....how could you allow your sister friend to die in poverty while you have millions.... How is easy they killed Flo...how was on the brink of record a amazing solo record....many of the songs after Florence death was then taken and given to Diana...heart attack at 32...would have BEEN VERY uncommon back then...and it was not called a heart attack official on her death record it was cardiac arrest...I always wonder what stopped her heart? Why was DIANE BOOED when she arrived to Flo's funeral

    Oh, brother! What a conspiracy!

Diana sold her soul...and the soul of a few others...it always comes back...she will pay for what she did to Mary and Florence.

@Dick Adams of course IT IS Diana's voice.  There are vids all over YT iof her singing the notes you claim may have been dubbed. Anyone who thinks that Berry's name is Barry shouldn't even speak on the subject.

I love you beautiful Diana Ross.

@TheReturnOfStephan1 I agree to a point. I don't think anyone sings this song quite like Celine Dione does. Celine's version is now the version by which all others are measured! Hey, Florence Ballard did a great version of this song as well. She has a much better and stronger voice than Diane. But, still, Ms. Ross' version is pretty good.

    K.... ....

KAREN I like Diana Ross’ version the best!

Had she performed this song in her full voice(and a half step lower), it would have really been a spectacular landmark recording, the one by which all other pop versions would have been measured.
