Ross, Diana - Give Up Lyrics
Give up, give up
Give up you're love to me
Give up, give up
Give up you're love to me
When I tell you
To be on the look out
You can't call for help
'Cause I know you inside out
Despite all your hideouts
I'm no great pretender
I'll make you surrender
So come along quietly
Here's a thought to remember
To escape from my drag-net
Give up, give up
Give up you're love to me
Give up, give up
Give up you're love to me
Give up, give up
Give up you're love to me
I'll give you just the facts man
And you can draw all your own conclusions
I'll keep your mind surrounded
With chains of love so strong
You can't break through them
My arsenal is stocked
With all kinds of seductive weapons
Although your heart's locked up
My love will assist me
So that you can't resist me
Give up, give up
Give up you're love to me
Give up, give up
Give up you're love to me
Give up, give up
Give up you're love to me
Give up, give up
Give up you're love to me
Give up, give up
Give up you're love to me
Give up, give up
Give up you're love to me
No, no, no
Give up, give up
Give up you're love to me
Give up, give up
Give up you're love to me
Give up, give up
Give up you're love to me
Give up, give up
Give up you're love to me
Give up, give up
Give up you're love to me
Give up, give up
Give up you're love to me
Give up, give up
Give up you're love to me
Give up, give up
Give up you're love to me

Ross, Diana Give Up Comments
This song always reminded me of Chic song "Rebels are we".
I bought this and Roberta Flack's LP in 1980.
Good year in my life.
flawless
Beautiful song
One complaint about this song..........it's not long enough. This is Awesome with a capitol A. Nile is sheer perfection, and Bernard is tearing up that bass line. Loved this song since the album first came out.....chic got me through high school. Always anticipated what there next album or project would be. Got me started playing the bass since 1979....and I'm still at it.....thank you chic. Peace and love.🎶🎶🎶
Totally agree!!! ****:-)
Diana Ross + Chic = Awsome.
One of those songs that get you started in the morning
grande il basso di Bernard e anche l'assolo di Nile, groove perfetto
I'll be singing this infront of my irresistibles
Excellent Groove. This is one of Diana's unique jams. The way Rogers & Edwards collaborated on this arrangement and then to have Diana bring it home, was second to none. Great sound with jazz and upbeat club flair. Only Ross!
Nile & Bernard ..... pure geniuses.
REAL RIGHT ON TIME MUSIC FROM THE BOSS D.ROSS FROM BACK IN THE DAYS.#1
All of you need to shut the hell up!!!!! These are different albums "NUTS" so stop being such a sorry critc!!!!!! CAN'T YOU ALL JUST ENJOY HER MUSIC. ALL HER MUSIC IS HER AND PERFECT IN "HER" WAY....
Thank You!
@Lloyd Wells: What you said is absolutely true. Some people think that Diana sings easy songs, but the melody dips and darts, and purity of her voice makes covering a DR song a challenge for others. She knows how to stick to a melody, and that is a definite art unto itself. Too much flair, and the song is a bust.
Diana Ross makes them all SOUND easy! But her mentoring spot on American Idol proved to the contestants and viewers alike that her songs are actually quite challenging to sing, she just handles them with ease. (Kinda the way Meryl Streep and Denzel Washington make acting look so easy.)
LOVE DISCO!!!!!
disco at its best
Someone was comparing "The Boss"lp to this one, and said this lp wins hands down......
I beg to differ!
No, I don't claim to be a "diana Ross" fan......
But I Like "The Boss" way better than this one!
The Diana LP that this track comes from in my Eyes is her best Body of Work Ever, from Top to Bottom. She had Upside Down, Tenderness, Have Fun Again, I'm Coming Out, Friend to Friend, My Old Piano, Now That Your Gone, and this great Groove called Give Up. Her collaboration with Edwards and Rogers from Chic is Sublime and cannot be touched.
Ashford & Simpson were one of her best Songwriters along with Michael Masser, and collaborated with her on a lot more albums, but the men we called Chic, were in my eyes just a little bit better. Bernard Edwards went on to write a very soulful hit called Telephone for her which was off the Swept Away album, and that joint was no no joke. It was smooth and soothing, simply "The Groove."
One of Diana' most purest of vocals, and to think this was B side release.
It was the B side to I'm Coming Out
Smart production for the time "Edwards and Rodgers"!!!
Diana Ross is not a powerful singer and there are many singers who have better technique, but she kills on phrasing and her musical ability to be able "brand" herself to the songs that she sings. It is usually the case that cover versions of her song are not as compelling as the original...This is what makes her a true artist.
That's what you say ...
I agree with you 100%.
There is no doubt that Diana Ross is timeless in her talent. I remember this song way back in 1981 and loving it more now than even I loved it then. It is a masterpiece. Well done Nile and Diana. Quality meaningful music this is.
What a blazingly great solo by Nile Rodgers, one of his very best.
@broke2471 good points, she always has maintained she's not a soul singer, and you can respect that she's not trying to be like Patti/Aretha, but she has carved out a legendary career which is awesome. . .
OMG I love this!
Love it! More of this please.
