Ross, Diana - (Don't Break These) Chains Of Love Lyrics

Please don't ever break these chains of love
You've wrapped around me
'Cause I've been so happy darling
Ever since the day you've bound me

So tighter, pull 'em tighter
Till I feel love's sweet pain
'Cause these chains of love
Keep me from going insane

Love, oh love sweet love
Comes but once in a lifetime
The only love I need is yours
And oh, darling, I hope you need mine

So tighter, pull 'em tighter
Till I feel love's sweet pain
'Cause these chains of love
Keep me from going insane

I felt so sure I could resist you
My mistake was the first time I kissed you
Now I'm caught in a web of my own making

My heart's full of love and it's yours for the taking
Ooh, take it, baby don't break it
Just like a thief in the night
You stole my heart away
But now that you stolen it darling
I've only got one thing to say

Tighter, pull 'em tighter
Till I feel love's sweet pain
'Cause these chains of love
Keep me from going insane

These chains of love
Tighter, tighter, tighter these chains
Chains of love
Baby, baby, baby these chains
Chains of love
Lock 'em up, lock 'em up, lock 'em up
Chains

  1. R.... M....

From the Lp "Love Child" (1968).

  2. A.... ....

Her vocals are way too high.

  3. B.... S....

One of my favorites from The Love Child Album.

  4. B.... ....

I agree, The Andantes sounded much better than Mary and Cindy
, but Cindy and Mary looked much better :)  And you thought those kidn of  biased politics started with today's music. No no no

    B.... ....

BroccoliQueefed Mary and Cindy sound good on stage

  5. A.... ....

cute song, never heard it before!!

wasn't all that impressed with this track...from a purely objective point of view this was purely filler material, not the best of DRATS during this period and it shows. the group was in the midst of massive upheaval during this period and it wouldn't be long before diane would strike out on her on and go solo.

Michael Stanton that your opinion,I love it !

    M.... S....

Michael Stanton, her name is Diana Ross! If you're not a close friend or her family member like her brother or sister you should be respectful and call her Diana Ross. There nothing wrong with the name Diane but you're not a friend of Miss Ross.

    M.... S....

I like this cut a lot!

    M.... S....

TWTR4EVER How many troll names do you go by? Lol

i wouldn't say that necessarily but you could tell the sound was different when flo was ousted from the group. all due respect to cindy because she was merely a pawn in this chess game between gordy, ross and the group and his plans to launch diane's solo career. flo, mary and diane together had a harmony that was absolutely sublime and when she was forced out the group it changed and not for the better IMHO.

    M.... S....

Michael Stanton you sound like that Queen TWTR4EVER !

MS. Ballard acknowledged in interviews before her tragic death that her own behavior caused her to be replaced. She said that while she enjoyed singing, she disliked all the other responsibilities that came with success & she especially disliked touring & being away from home. She said her unhappiness caused her to miss performances & she acknowledged showing up at performance time intoxicated. She said the drinking would cause her to intentionally reverse choreography steps to throw Ms. Ross & Ms. Wilson off. She had nothing bad to say about Ms. Ross, Ms. Wilson, Mr.Gordy or the decision to replace her. She said that in retrospect, she realized that her actions were her way of leaving the group. They were so successful that she said she did not have the nerve to resign. So, she did things to get fired. I have read other accounts like yours that portray Ms. Ballard as the victim of a devious plot by Ms. Ross & Mr. Gordy, but they are at odds with the record & don't make sense logically. Motown planned for Ms. Ross to leave the group at least a couple of years before it happened. So, Ms. Ballmer's departure did not serve that plan, it delayed it. With Ms. Ballard still in the group, the transition could have been done sooner, with two familiar faces & a new member. They could not have two new faces, so Ms. Ross's departure was delayed. "Someday, We'll Be Together," which was to be Ms. Ross's first solo release was released under the group's name instead.

Some also pretend that after Me. Ross left the group, Motown had no more interest in them, also a totally inaccurate story. The group continued to be booked into the same venues, appeared on a wide variety of TV shows, worked with top producers -- Frank Wilson,Smokey Robinson, Jimmy Webb, etc., & even Brian & Eddie Holland (& later Lamont Dozier) came back to work with them. They did two albums with the Four Tops & starred in their own TV special. If those are actions of neglect or emblematic of a plot, every group in the world would have wanted such neglect.

Making Me. Ballard appear a victim does not honor her, it demeans her & her contributions to the group. It also does damage to the considerable achievements of Mr. Gordy, who created the greatest music label of all time. Ms. Wilson says that when Jean Terrell left the group, she asked Ms. Ballard to return (with company approval). Ms. Ballard declined, saying that she still did not want to tour & do the other things involved -- & she had children by then. The Supremes are the most successful group in US history & they & other Motown artists gave us a catalog of music that will never be matched. I do not understand why some want to diminish that achievement, invent stories & make some talented, tireless trail blazers into villains & why 50 years later, they do not just enjoy the wonderful music.
