Rosanne Cash - We Can Do What We Like Lyrics
If I don't make promises will you stay around
I won't let you hurt me
I know better by now
It's hard to control it
It hurts to decide if we trust in tomorrow
You're a poet by nature, a drifter by heart
A change from the old ways
A love in the dark
It might be my conscience
It's hurting your pride
We may get pass heartache
We can do what we like
You can close the last door on my past
My charts are in order
My hands are tied behind my back
I would not deny you or catch you off guard
For old souls with young minds can take things so hard
While we practise the distance I keep you in sight
After the snow clears
We can do what we like

We tried to make ourselves pay for something we've never done
We threw the best parts of life away on street talk strangers and drugs
What we really want is love what we really need is love
[ guitar ]
I wanna call out your name I wanna hold out my hand
A woman silent in the mirror tonight wants to talk to your mirror man
And what they really want is love and what they really need is love
[ guitar ]
We are ships in the night the water is deep in between
There is reason and we can't find the light so we sail off into our dreams
And what we really dream is love and what we really need is love
What we want is love what we need is love
[ guitar ]
We tried to make it feel right in someone else's world
We sat and looked out my window last night
And knew that things had changed with this girl
Cause what I really found was love cause what we really need is love
What we really want is love what we really need is love
What we want is love what we need is love
Such a sweet, tender song from Rosanne. I love her music, but I don't like where she stands politically. Johnny must be spinning in his grave.
Both Johnny and Rosanne are progressives. Look it up. Liberals to you, and proud of it.
Johnny Cash was always a champion of the underdog. Remember how he played at San Quentin and other prisons?
Magnifique!
Interiors remains my favorite Rosanne Cash album, and is in my top 10 albums of all time.
"Interiors" then "The Wheel"... they're so beautiful...
She is so so good.
Beautiful. Beautiful song. Deeply moving album.
back in 1990 ...the natural talented daughter of her well-known father...
Ha ha youve gotta have a sense of humour
@blackwelderadam I should agree but I dare to say that this is an UNDERSTATEMENT! There's no justice on the music charts MANY times! :( But I will agree: this song is underrated!
@louis12346 u mean crap
How could Rosanne drop in popularity from 1 single to the next? 'I don't wanna spoil the party' hit #1, then, her next 2 only peaked in the 30's. Strange business, right, gang? Anyway, 'Really' hit only #39 in Billboard, 11-17-90. God bless!
Great video and song...by the way...can anybody please fill me on how well she came out of this brain surgery she had a couple years ago? Appreciate it. Thanks....
