haha, I read a couple weeks ago, in a Rory video comment section that when someone asked Jimi who he thought was the best guitarist and Jimi said “go ask Rory Gallagher “. Not a week later , while watching a YouTube with Joe Walsh in it someone commented that Jimi said the same about Joe when asked who he thought was the best guitarist. I wonder who Jimi thought was the best. I’m sure he liked Rory and Joe W. ZZ Top was formed as a band in’69 so I guess it’s possible he saw them as well.

I saw Rory at the Victoria Theatre in Hanley in 1975, he was awesome. Laundromat is a great display of his excellent voicing and song structures..

I'm at the laundromat, and l do have clothes to clean, and playing this at top volume. A guy about 20 just asked me who it was. Result!

Look at the way he adjusts the volume mid song so cool and effortlessly, what a dude.

It looks like he's working the volume for each pickup throughout the verse cording. It seems bad to say it about someone who apparently had no pretensions at all, but he really was a virtuoso.

MSTFreak, this is what Rory said about the condition of his guitar: "I sweat a lot when I play and over the years the body’s absorbed a lot of moisture. I’ve often thought that it’s come to the end of its life. Recently two pick ups packed up together, they just cut out when I was playing. I was terrified that I wouldn’t be able to get new pick-ups to sound the same, but fortunately they matched perfectly". [International Musician and Recording World, April 1975]

"I had it stolen one time, following a brief appearance at the Five Club to visit Pat Egan about the Dublin scene, and it got very beaten up then. I had borrowed a Telecaster, and it and the Tele were nicked. I was terrified for a few days in case I would have to buy both a Strat and a Telecaster. Both guitars were found (with the assistance of some exposure on Garda Patrol on RTÉ) behind a front garden wall on the South Circular Road, with some of the strings missing and the bodies knocked about but, thankfully, they were OK".
