He could have been so famous if he played for a great band or had a great singer or song writer with him. Amazing, incredible, enthusiastic, and mind bending solos is what he produces. But when the actual song isn't there I cant get behind it. Guitar doesnt do it for me alone

By the way he had a great band and he was a decent singer.

@Ezio Auditore when I say great band. I mean him only playing guitar for a great band. Maybe doing back up singing or have a couple of his own songs. His guitar playing is great but I just dont think the songs are that great. Just imo. He could have used a singer and prob used the same band. The song writings not there for me. Very normal chord progressions. I think hes playing is incredible I just dont think the songs are very good. When you play the same 4 chords over and over kinda makes you not want to listen till the guitar solo hits

Somebody explain to me why there are so many comments in Greek in every Rory Gallagher video here on YouTube :) The proportion of Greek comments is just so prominent. Was Rory Gallagher somehow especially well-liked in Greece?

Rory's huge in Greece, they'd make him a god if they could, he played back in the early 80s when the country was going through some bad times, a lot of Greek fans remember the New philadelph stadium gig and Rory continued playing despite the riot police outside the stadium running around cracking skulls so he is part of Greek folklore now and they won't have a bad word said against him...that's the short version of the story.

I just couldn't help but wonder why the Greeks loved Rory Gallagher out of all blues musicians. He is great, no doubt! Definitely one of my very favourite musicians, but he is also somewhat unknown in many many countries. The way I first heard about him was probably by reading some article where KK Downing mentioned Rory as his early influence. And to tell you the truth, I haven't really seen Rory's name being mentioned many times since then! Not even when I visited Cork once. It just seems like he has a fairly small but devoted fan group.

@BadPenny78 you're welcome, as for the long story I'm sure some one of the Greek fans on here could enlighten you especially the Athens crew who were at the actual gig at the time.. watch this space.
And yeah Rory flew under the radar as far as the mainstream bubblegum music industry were concerned, to the best of my knowledge he never cut any singles off his albums after Taste as he wasn't too interested in all that and it was always his music and the fans first, he left the business side of things to his brother/manager Donal. Anyway enjoy the gift that is Rory's music.

I saw him once on DON KIRSHNER'S ROCK CONCERT. When Kirshner introduced his live segment, he talked about Rory being a gentleman..."just don't get between him and his guitar." As near as I know, he seldom if ever played any guitar other than his '61 Strat, so that's probably not an overstatement!

This was the first Rory's song I ever heard. I was 11 at that time and I was stunned from the first listen. Lots of love to Ireland from Greece!!
