This is my all-time favourite Gallaher track, joint first with Tatoo'd Lady, but the playing on this is much more mature and honed. I have to respectfully disagree with clikityclak's optimistic interpretation of the lyrics though; a Fail-Safe on any system is a mechanism whereby if anything dangerous goes wrong (in a nuclear power station for example) then the whole thing shuts down. I think in this case Rory is saying that humans are the glitch in the system and the whole system might just bloody well shut down. I always imagine some kind of nuclear fallout and nature just not being able to function and saying fuck this its time for another ice age, know what I mean? Where are my anti depressants?

@BillMinworth Oh yeah.....this and about 20 other songs. Rory seemed to have avoided the "hit machine" at any and all costs. Anything he may have lost in fleeting fame, recognition, etc. he retained in credability and the esteem of us "lucky few".
