This is my favourite Roots song. I find it haunting, beautiful and subtle. This album is super underrated, though I'll concede there's 2 tracks that didn't add anything to it.

The vocalist reminded me a bit of Joanna Newsom.  Why does "rap" have so much anger and hate?

Joanna Newsom is strange, but yes, I see the similarity (in voice, not style I guess).

+Bruce W. Mohler thats a generalization. Aggressive is a more appropriate term. The roots also make tracks meant for inspiration. But rap also makes it easy to convey the nitty grity, things that wouldn't sound right in song. It came out of the urban areas as an art form to distract from violence and express themselves. Then there's the idiots that use it in the most degrading manner. But an art is an art I guess. Anything goes.

This is a masterpiece. I honestly don't understand how people don't like this. I'm a huge Roots fan and haven't heard one song that disappointed me. Black Thought is the GOAT! 

@pro That is definitely a flaw but a true Roots fan would appreciate this album.  I mean even though, the GOAT Black Thought didn't rap much on this album, the production was incredible as usual. 

@pro Exactly! (tho, it must be for 6 minutes and a half...) They've wanted to make their kinda experimental album... I never like experimental music, I like when through mainstream you include experimental elements! I'm bored when it's too much experimental! However, the has a very beautiful song : Tomorrow!

@spaceboy2095 i have a great concept for the next time The Roots feel the need to make a concept album. The concept is: Black Thought raps for 45-60 minutes while the other guys skillfully play instruments in the background.

Nice! But Black Thought doesn't rap on all The Roots songs, and not all the time, there are other rappers on it! ;-) Still, yeah something with more spitting would be appreciated! lol

@pro Black Thought's rapping is only one instrument in the band, I liked the songs for what they were overall not just for one members rapping. Besides they had other guys rapping on there too and their voices might have suited certain songs better. I think Greg Porn's voice suited the pimp character on When The People Cheer and Dice Raw's voice suited the drunken singer on Black Rock

The greatest music video in existence. Like seriously, not the best Roots song by any means but it is the best video I've ever seen. Keeps me captivated, intruiged and makes me wonder.

The Roots have been recording for 25 years and have evolved and stayed valid the entire time. I am amazed at the idiots that were 2 years old when The Roots started recording ( or were not even born yet ) saying crap like " I miss the old Roots".

This is an insanely grim album that I believe every single true hip hop fan should listen to. The Roots really just get better as they go.

This is a great and for those who can understand the meaning its a great listen great concept great hook great sound in a world were all you hear is crap. Not all music is to move your ass to sometimes its good to move your mind and put yourself in the art and only then will you appreciate great medaphors coming from the great poets that we are so lucky to listen to. Your brain is an excellent tool when you really find out how it works. Wake up. Sometimes they NEVER will.

If you know the concept, this is a very moving song and video. I love it! Talk about depth, I feel like it speaks to me directly about the stage of life I'm in right now, finding an eternal moment.Beautiful.

All of their videos are incredible.  They all seem very deep.
