Ronstadt, Linda - The Blue Train Lyrics

Watching the long faces
Riding this run down track
And the lost places
From a dream that never brings them back
And the sad truth is
Nothing but a cold hard fact

I'm riding the blue train
Over the miles yet to cover
A ghost in a hurry to fade
I'm taking it one way to nowhere
Afraid you might be there
To find me inside this blue train

Counting the burned bridges
Trailing this rusted wreck
As our back pages
Scatter in the dust we left
Like a pearl necklace
Falling from around my neck

I'm riding the blue train
Over the miles yet to cover
A ghost in a hurry to fade
I'm taking it one way to nowhere
Afraid you might be there
To find me inside this blue train

Away down the low road
A ticket to an empty room
A rendezvous unknown

I'm riding the blue train
Over the miles yet to cover
A ghost in a hurry to fade
And I'm taking it one way to nowhere
Afraid you might be there
To find me inside this blue train

I'm riding the blue train
Over the miles yet to cover
A ghost in a hurry to fade
I'm taking it one way to nowhere
Afraid you might be there
To find me inside this blue train

I was actually at Skywalker Ranch, as a guest of Linda's, when she recorded this song. I never in my wildest dreams imagined that I would have this opportunity. I was also asked, by Linda, to select one of the tracks from the several that she had recorded. Being in total shock, I chose track 4. All I remember is Linda saying, "Punch it George." Linda could not have been sweeter and more down to Earth. Like so many others, I miss her gift of song.

I'm not surprised, she always comes across as a very nice person.

Brett Smith lucky you, I was also blessed to see her.

Brett Smith very lucky ! I am jealous. Have loved this song from the first time I heard it on a soft rock station in Boston. Nobody, but nobody, could sing this song like she does . The emotion just pours from her beautiful vocals and the story is so poignant !!
I like putting music together that tells a story at least in my strange mind. I have put this back to back with Kenny Roger’s “The Gambler”. Give it a try would love to hear from anyone who does.

Talk about no bad choices, Mr. Smith! Thank you for sharing your memory of this lovely encounter with an artist that seems not to have wasted one ounce of her talent nor one second of her time in gifting it to us. I am so grateful she is still here on this Earth, and only hope she adds her own songs to the daily playlists that bring comfort and beauty into her life.

  20. C.... P....

  21. F.... F....

Hey Earth Resident! The Blue Train was written by Tom Kimmel. But I first heard the Irish singer Maura O'Connell sing this song from her album "Blue is the colour of Hope" from 1992

    F.... F....

    Thank You!

    F.... F....

I absolutely love Linda's singing and her voice - but Maura O'connell is phenomenal at it - see the transatlantic sessions version, possibly my favourite youtube track ever!!

    F.... F....

@Jane Allison I must admit, I love Linda, but this version they do is also my favorite. The whole Transatlantic Sessions series is amazing. I have all the DVD/CD's. A real treasure - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORMUqhofLGw

  22. E.... ....

Does anyone know the name of the original artist?

    E.... ....

I believe Maura O'Connell released this in Ireland first, and it's a different interpretation which I like very much as well.

    E.... ....

    Tom Kimmel wrote it.

Killer voice, timeless beauty, Linda Ronstadt, one in a million!

  27. L.... W....

This very underrated 1988 Linda Ronstadt record captures the depressed emotions we all feel when someone decides to terminate a relationship that we were hoping would continue and grow.
