Ronstadt, Linda - A River For Him Lyrics

I crossed on the river
There'll be no returning
I crossed all the bridges
I watched them all burning
And now I'm a stranger
To a strange land I'm driven
Where all is forgotten
And nothing's forgiven

But I cried a river
A river for him
That's deeper and wider
Than I'll ever swim
The heart it will harden
The sorrow will dim
But I cried a river
A river for him

I think of him now
On the road I am taking
And wonder how long
His heart will be breaking
But he'll never hear when
The teardrops are falling
Or the sound of my voice
Or the name I am calling

But I cried a river
A river for him
That's deeper and wider
Than I'll ever swim
The heart it will harden
The sorrow will dim
But I cried a river
A river for him

So weep for the sons
And the dear darling daughters
For the passing of time
And the parting of waters
For all who have passed through
This world long before me
To a far distant shore line
Where no one waits for me

But I cried a river
A river for him
That's deeper and wider
Than I'll ever swim
The heart it will harden
The sorrow will dim
But I cried a river
A river for him

Ronstadt, Linda A River For Him Comments
  1. m.... ....

Winter Light was her first album to be taken out of print. It only sold 250,000 copies It was a commercial failure. Which is so sad because I think it's one of her top three best.

    m.... ....

She was 47 when it was released, they say that it's tough for a singer - no matter how great - to have commercial success after 30, she did amazing to have the success she has had in later years and I think that was moistly because she diversified and stopped trying to be a 'commercial' rock/pop singer.

How did this album not sell ten million copies? "Winter Light" is some of Linda's best work.

    J.... ....

JeffMinde - I know, right? I've never stopped listening to it

    J.... ....

I believe she said in her book that this album contained some of her most difficult songs to sing.

    J.... ....

@Rick Bryant I saw her live in LA many years ago and she got excited when she sang Heartbeats Accelerating and said that it was one of her favourites and that 'as a singer it was great joy to sing it'

@Mark Martin I'm so happy you got to see her live! I only did once. It was just her and a guitar in the late 70's or early 80's.
