Rolling Stones, The - Sittin' On A Fence Lyrics

Since i was young i've been very hard to please
And i don't know wrong from right
But there is one thing i could never understand
Some of the sick things that a girl does to a man, so
I'm just sittin' on a fence
You can say i got no sense
Trying to make up my mind
Really is too horrifying
So i'm sittin on a fence
All of my friends at school grew up and settled down
And they mortgaged up their lives
One things not said too much, but I think it's true
They just get married cause there's nothing else to do, so
I'm just sittin' on a fence
You can say i got no sense
Trying to make up my mind
Really is too horrifying
So i'm sittin on a fence
I'm just sittin' on a fence
You can say i got no sense
Trying to make up my mind
Really is too horrifying
So i'm sittin on a fence
The day can come when you get old and sick and tired of life
You just never realize
Maybe the choice you made wasn't really right
But you go out and you don't come back at night, so
i'm just sittin' on a fence
You can say i got no sense
Trying to make up my mind
Really is too horrifying
So i'm sittin on a fence

I love this song but it does have sort of a Richard Corey effect at the end.

I grew up listening too the stones. This is one of my favorite songs. Sure glad they came up with this album "Flowers"

    J.... C....

@Rudolph Villalpando yeah, The Stones have always been a very important part of my life and this is a beautiful song, one of their less popular and most underrated in my opinion.
I love "Flowers" too, a nice album :-)

Was 18 years old when this song was released and I loved this tune. Unfortunately, I didn't sit on the fence long enough and married 4 times thereafter. Not complaining because there were many happy moments with all ( Except the 3rd) and am sort of content with the current 4th. My point is; the fence should always be considered and respected. Whatever side you should fall off from, I wish you well.

Robert Hadfield, that's a lot of jumping on and off the fence! I first heard this song when still a child when my sister got into the Stones. I was already set against marriage and loved to hear this in a song. I'm 50 now and not one single experience/relationship of mine, or of any of my friends or anyone I have observed, has ever swayed my views. I worked with elderly people for 12 years and their experience of marriage was even more diabolical, there was certainly no golden age of marriage like some seem to think. Marriage asks you to be a prophet about the future which no one can be, and demands that you vow to stay no matter what happens. What terrible nonsense. There is a strange shortage of songs about this subject, given that everyone has to make a decision around it at some stage.
Robert Hadfield I wish you well. Marriage, I have hated you my whole life and nothing you have to show has changed my mind.
    All hail the Stones 👏

Glad you rolled well with life.
Good times always outweigh the bad

One of the best albums ever. Definitely one of my all time fave albums. Rolling Stones have been soooo ahead of their time. Ahhhh love every song on this album.

    A.... W....

Yeah, their early stuff was better, because of Brian.
Mick Taylor was an awesome guitarist too

  10. F.... K....

Great tune Keith and Brian’s playing is good this could almost be a Donovan song

  11. R.... O....

  13. K.... T....

    なぜか泣けてくるメロディにほろほろしているのです。

  14. R.... K....

One of their best. Everyone gets this feeling occasionally (even if they don't want to admit it). Beautiful guitar work - kind of Portuguese!

  15. A.... v....

Met Brian was de beste periode

  16. K.... K....

Flowers were recorded between 1965-65 and released as you say, 1967 and slightly delayed.

Superba disc with Brian Jones playing Harpa and doing it super. ❤️

  17. M.... ....

the lyrics were offensive for the time-back then it didnt take much to offend

    M.... ....

Takes a LOT less to offend or "trigger" people these days, since so many are "offended" by what you say, how you say...or what you don't say and why you didn't say it

    M.... ....

@ITILII "the beatles are bigger then jesus" didn't take much to offend people back then either

    M.... ....

It wasnt offence it was fear of the future. Remember ,The times they are a changin'. This song scared the hell out of our parents. New music , new looks after the grey of the 40s and 50s.

  18. P.... H....

    Amazingly beautiful!

  19. J.... S....

    Guitar Pilgrim brought me here

    J.... S....

  20. M.... Y....

    M.... Y....

He thought so to--played it the entire song :)

    M.... Y....

Not only Brian, but Mick and Keith! All the Stones!

    M.... Y....

    Always was..

  21. R.... R....

Brian Jones 50. Todesjahr. Trotzdem unvergessen!

  22. R.... W....

    An underrated classic.

  23. S.... M....

I love this song. So simple but so nice ❤️
