I always thought this was the last song with the classic Stones sound, especially since it has the layering of the acoustic guitar over the electric a la "Street Fighting Man" and "Brown Sugar." That sort of slashing sound to create a real sense of danger. This is one of their darkest and most intense songs, very violent vocals from Mick and Charlie sounds like he's trying to batter his drums to death. I can see why this didn't last long in concert. It's a tough vibe to recreate and it doesn't have that sort of anthemic refrain like "Street Fighting Man" or "Gimme Shelter" - two similarly dark and violent songs - do. Plus it's too linked with the bad blood between Mick and Keith at the time. Outstanding song though; sometimes I think it's their best song of the entire 1980s'.

Mick should have done a solo lp. Why didn't he??

It's a bit painful, but even at their lowest ebb they were entertaining. Mick at his most dominating, Keith biding his time until Talk is Cheap. In the end quality won out and we are the richer for it.

I don't like the Stones, or even Zeppelin. Yet I love this song, something about Jimmy Page's lead guitar with the Stones was so different from anything I've heard from either group.

Hardcore Tune! True story. This came on the radio on my way to work back in the late 80’s..... cranked it up, air drums, guitar and the 9’s. When the song was over I realized I missed my exit bout 5 miles back..... half hr late but worth it!!!!!

I remember when this was released. Was my favourite Stones song back then. (So I was really excited when Mick fell ill and my aunt played him in the video.)

Russell Mulcahy was THE BEST. His videos and his editing were great. He even managed here...to make the stones look contemporary, and Jagger look masculine. Great video, and great song. Mulcahy always matched em perfectly.

Unfortunately the Stones stopped being the Stones as soon as Ronnie Wood joined the band. Brian Jones was in the early Stones and Mick Taylor was in the later Stones. After that the Rolling Stones were no more.
