Rolling Stones, The - Citadel Lyrics
Men are armed shout who goes there
We have journeyed far from here
Armed with bibles make us swear
Candy and Taffy, hope you both are well
Flags are flying, dollar bills
Round the heights of concrete hills
You can see the pinnacles
Candy and Taffy, hope you both are well
Please come see me in the citadel
In the streets are many walls
Hear the peasants come and crawl
Candy and Taffy, hope you both are well
Please come see me in the citadel
Screaming people fly so fast
In their shiny metal cars
Through the woods of steel and glass
Candy and Taffy, hope you both are well
Please come see me in the citadel
Oh well!

Rolling Stones, The Citadel Comments
Citadel from Les Chansones Populaires album by serbian band Electronic Orgazm is quite different and longer for 2 minutes.
This is the Rolling Stones trying their hand at psychadelic.
Escuchar esto fumado es lo mas
Rolling Stones were the precussors of Hard Rock
I love this song.
Brian Jones was irreplaceable! He brought genius components.
why does the song remind me of the writings in the book of Ezekiel?
While listening this music i can see A6M3
This sounds like gorillaz first album
Sounds like a Who song.

«Citadel» - is a song by the British rock band The Rolling Stones, released as the second track of their album Their Satanic Majesties Request, released in 1967.
Driven by a guitar riff played by Keith Richards, the song is noticeably heavier, having a stronger guitar presence than in other songs on the psychedelic album.
The choir refers to actress Candy Darling and her friend Taffy, who The Stones had previously met at the Albert Hotel in New York City. According to Darling: "We met them at the Albert Hotel. We were on the top floor of theirs and hung a bunch of grapes on a rope outside their window. You see, the Citadel is New York and the song is a message for us, Taffy and me ".3
According to bassist Bill Wyman, the song was titled during the "After Five" sessions.
Badass!
The first words are wrong...it should be MEN AT ARMS SHOUT "WHO GOES THERE?"
Spotify
Awesome lyric optics good job
Very dense track thanks to Brian and Nicky . Three mellotrons, piano, harpsichord, sax and flute
Play at 1.75x speed and you have a fantastic punk rock song
my humble advice: listen to this song and the whole of 'satanic' well prepared, just to enhance the psychedelic experience ...
Why satanic?
@Antonio Aguilar yeah, you're right, dear antonio: why satanic?
I was asking seriously haha
Pure Beatles.
way passed them here
So cool to play with an acoustic guitar too
Mola cantidad
Lit video Love the song fun album 3 d cover rock s
CANDY AND TAFFY LOVE THIS TUNE,
Even though i do like this song and a couple of others from this album it really was disappointing. Mick has even said it wasn't very good.
Like for the Slapback
Mono version is better: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6lRWJ4TE-w
- Lead Vocals & Maracas: Mick Jagger
- Electric Guitar: Keith Richards
- Drums: Charlie Watts
- Piano & Harpsichord: Nicky Hopkins
- Mellotron, Saxophone & Flute: Brian Jones

Great covers by both The Damned and Nivea Bracelet.Satanic Majesties has always been my favourite Rolling Stones album...but others disagree...like always!
front to back..........on with the show evening all
Very British sound
Fantastic video. Good job. Yep this is a classic!!
Forgotten Gem got buried under Sgt.Pepper. Wonder what a Siouxie Sioux cover would sound like ?
What Stars and talents we had in
Brian Jones and Keith Relf. R.I.P.
Debo ser el unico en este mundo que al escuchar esta cancion se acuerda de "Goku ssj vs Frieza in namek"
Encaja perfectamente!
PLEASE COME SEE ME....IN THE CITADEL!
ABSOLUTELY TIMELESS. They could have released this 30 years later and it would never have missed a beat.
Check out the great covers by the Damned (1981) and Red Kross (85)...
Another terrible version , cant hear the singing, and no one noticed , are you all tone deaf.
Richard's still has his edge on guitar here ..... 💪⚡👊
Even stoned out of their minds the Stones are still better than the rest!
It's candy and cathy, not candy and taffy.
Well made
This song is soo good 😭
A stunning moment from the Sixties that has never been properly acknowledged.
What ever became of Candy and Taffy?
Candy and Taffy are reference to two transsexual actresses from Warhol's Silver Factory, Candy Darling and Jackie Curtis. Candy died of cancer in 1974 and Taffy died in 1985, of a heroin overdose.
@BookFreakyTube Whoa!
@BookFreakyTube It's always a bit risky to get too close to the Glimmer Twins - Brian, Gram, etc., etc.
Great guitar sound on that opening riff. Nice bit of spring reverb.
My favorite song if satanic majecties
pure psychedelic magic!
when they were more on lsd than coke
Maybe in the 60's, but both Keith and Jagger had a pretty bad coke addiction through the 70s and 80s, and keith didn't quit doing coke till like 2008 I believe.
classic stones, so underrated, and satanic much better than the sgt peppers album its compared unfavourably to. amazing beatles blow thier own trumpet regarding peppers while satanic was a stones low point according to many, amazing how beatles claim psychedelic superiority over stones yet stones blow them out the water, so many myths regarding beatles v stones can be debunked listening to satanic and peppers.
this is so punk
Sus majestades satánicas es el sgt pepper de los rolling stones
"Candy and Taffy" - do you know or even care, who they where ?
These are NOT the words I'm hearing and I've been listening since December, '67.....Stones screwing with us?
best of the album
I heard that the Citadel was inspired by Andy Warhol's Factory. Candy & Taffy were drag queens & most of the lyric imagery is New York City. Least that was what I was told nearly 40 years ago at a college party with this album playing in the background.
You are reaching ..... Dude
shawn smith It’s actually true! Candy Darling was a muse of Andy Warhol and she was pretty famous at the time! There are more songs about her than one would think, including a couple by The Velvet Underground. In her Wikipedia page they reference this song as being partially inspired by her.
Killer guitar riff from Keef !
my favorite song from the album
OK this album is just fantastic I love this album like playing all the time
The Rolling Stones ♥️♥️♥️♥️ Brian love cool ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Screaming Mick! Nothing better
great album ,great song one the best psychedelic moment
WHERE YOU CAN MOVE IT AND GET 3D IMAGES WITH DIFFERENT THINGSD
I HAVE AN UNOPEND COPY WITH THE 3D PLASTTIC IMAGE
How many instruments do you think Brian played on this cut?
Mellotron set to Mandolin setting
Flute
Soprano Saxophone
so Britpop :)
Hue 1968
Rest in peace.
This track actually sounds a like the title track of Sgt. Peppers with it's heavily slashed guitar chords and brass sounds though replicated by the mellotron. However, neither album holds a candle to Revolver in terms of innovation.
My buddy picked up this album at a swap meet for a dollar and gave it to me as a gift (he already had the album with the hologram cover). What a great friend! 😊
Eh, I think I prefer Redd Kross's version. This song needs to be a little more uptempo.
Best album they ever made. Rip Brian Jones. The murderers (rolling stones security) never brought to trial.
liamardo007 best album?? That’s a bit of a stretch don’t you think? It’s still pretty awesome.
Sorry fellas it sounds like u trying to make a psychedelic album on alcohol. Sgt Pepper 4 eva lol
I have loved this track since I was 14 years old, but I can't quite work out everything Keith is doing here. It's such a dense track. Can anyone tell me what that weird, strangled chord is he plays right after the chorus? 1:52 is a good example. It's an E, but far from a standard one.
Feeling like popping some tabs! Miss the trips on LSD.
Sounds as fresh now as it did fifty years ago. Maybe my favorite all time Stones song.
Proto-metal-ish?
That guitar effect is incredible.
Great😉
“Satanic Majesties.... “ is my favourite Stones album! It’s a psychedelic classic!
LOVE LOVE LOVE GOMPER
Redd Kross do an amazing version of this great Stones tune!
pretty unmusical compared to the beatles in my opinion--but i like it
One of my favorite Rolling Stones song
here we go again
EGAL VON WANN DER SONG IST. DRAUFSINGEN KANN MANN IMMER!!!
WHERE IS MY MIX-CITADEL?
is song 2?
Esta es una de mis canciones favoritos, cuando la escucho tiene que ser mas de una vez. Me deja un sentimiento fresco, de que todo lo puedo, es increible
Oh dear. It’s “Candy and Cathy”!
No it is Candy and Taffy, they were friends of the band at the time, look it up
Absolutely brilliant. One of their best tracks, and the best track on Their Satanic Majesties Request.
Chupense esa Beatles!!!! Que se jodan y viva los stones!!! Carajo!! lml pd:fan De Beatles no se lo tomen tan personal
Ce morceau est une très grande réussite des Rolling Stones!
An under-rated song from an under-rated album. Even Mick has made fun of this album; still it has it's moments and this is one of the better songs.
1ST TRACK EH THE REST ROCKS GROOVES
"Please come see me in the Citadel" This is the phrase!!!
One of the signature sounds of The Rolling Stones is a guitar that nobody knew how to tune.
I've heard before that the Stones used improperly tuned guitars but from experience I know when my guitars are mis-tuned very quickly and I can't see how a mis-tuned instrument would make it through any recording engineer.
Love that scraping guitar !
I see how this could have influenced Oasis, The Charlatans UK, and the Moons
And Simple Minds! Check out their song 'Changeling'....it's a rip-off!!
very very acid guitar of keith richards and the magic sound on mellotrom psichedelic brian jones rhytm .
Brian Jones en el saxofón soprano, melotron y la flauta. Un gran músico Brian Jones él fundador de los Rolling Stones.
