Roger Waters - Bird In A Gale Lyrics

Are you blowing like a bird in a gale?
Does the pain of your loss seep into your feathers like rain?
Do the bars of your cage feel low or cold to the touch?
Were my caresses too gentle?
Did I love you too much?

The dog is scratching at the door
The boy is drowning in the sea
Can I crash out on your floor?

The loon is howling at the sea
Can I crash out on your floor?
Is there room in the story for me?

Roger Waters Bird In A Gale Comments
  1. V.... ....

THIS is the Pink Floyd I have been missing. :( The rest of the band members were great but, Waters was the heart and soul. Gilmour was the brawn. Great in their own rights. Great on their own but, together they were amazing. This album is about as close to a REAL Pink Floyd album I've heard in years.

  2. S.... R....

The album is great as is. No need for Gilmour's guitar. This is a masterpiece and the composition is fantastic. Why try to replicate the past. This is Roger Waters not PF.

  3. S.... m....

    I hear hints of obscured

  4. T.... D....

    "....Were my caresses too gentle...?
Did I love you too much....?...?"

  5. K.... C....

The BEST song on this album, for sure!!!!!!

  6. S.... R....

That dog is still scratching at the door...

  7. K.... C....

Finally a post of GREATEST SONG on this album!!!!!! Thank you!!!

  8. C.... M....

    4:40 isn't that Dogs?

  9. P.... M....

Roger Waters music is brillant and will inspire generations to come as will Pink Floyd, his political views are misplaced and ignorant, has he not benefitted from capitalism and a capitalist a thousand times over himself ?

  10. M.... U....

    Angry Song>Angry Birds

  11. O.... ....

    Animals part 2

  12. S.... R....

    Happy New Year

  13. R.... ....

This song is the most underrated one on the album. It's far more than a transition song nestled between Is this the Life We Really Want and The Most Beautiful Girl ... it took a while, but it grew on me.

  14. C.... K....

for his age, this is pretty fucking brilliant, i gotta say.

  15. S.... R....

This album gets greater and greater everytime I listen to it. Roger's lyric's are quite powerful here. His soul speaks here. The music is different instrumently which makes it unique but brilliant. Those who expect the same do not know Roger's music at all. He is one of a kind.

    S.... R....

The piano is fantastic and percussions too. Guitar and base come in like the sugar in your coffee

    S.... R....

I agree. I actually didn't like it the first time I listened to it but now it just blows me away. I can say that same for my all-time favorite album--Animals.

  16. m.... ....

this is one of the greatest and bravest albums I've ever heard. it's like a retrospective of the man's entire career. Sounds from every album abound, almost recklessly. it's like he knows this could be his last album and he's throwing everything at it.
    Roger Waters at his best.
    brilliant

  17. B.... O....

I mean I love the album but all tracks but this have kinda generic drumming

  18. T.... K....

This is old senile leftist nonsense, a huge improvement musically over waters solo stuff, but my god, it makes leftists sound stupid, sentimental, and non-sensical in terms of having an actual argument other than trying to evoke my feels. "Don't you like children? So how can you not like refugee children?" is about as deep and complex as this nonsense goes.We need actual intellectuals on the left. Where the fuck are they?

  19. R.... O....

    Where's Syd?

    R.... O....

Jamming with Rick Wright, waiting for Nick and Dave.

Roger? No way! John Entwistle or Billy Cox being available, no need for Roger.

  20. R.... L....

I like it just the way it is.

  21. m.... ....

This album is one of the bravest I've ever heard
    references to who he is
    where he's been
all sorts of noises and sounds that reprise a particular point in his career
lots of direct pink floyd references all here simply to sum him up as an artist
Mainly i think as an admission that he is getting close to the end this could well be his last studio album
and then there's 'Wait for Her'
I don't mind admitting that when I analysed that song, really listened to it and realised what he was talking about, it had me welling up.
    Fantastic artist
    Fantastic album

    m.... ....

What did you get from wait for her?

  22. W.... H....

    This is pure excellence.

  23. C.... H....

Did they get you to trade.. Your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze?
    Cold comfort for change?
Did you exchange... A walk on part in the war.. For a lead role in a cage?

The classic Floyd sound in this song made me think of "Wish You Were Here".
Animals is my Favorite Floyd Album.

  24. F.... S....

Fuck me, he's deffo getting back to the core of Floyd's greatest with this. MAKE UP WITH DAVID NOW, ROGER.

  25. J.... C....

    Still love this track!

  26. k.... b....

not a gilmour fan... but now i miss him

  27. k.... b....

mutch stolen from.... what god wants..... and other amused to death songs... but by far not good as that.. SORRY .. still love him

  28. A.... 5....

There's so much noise and stress around us all day. Advertisements, jobs, debt, war. We barely get a moment to relax and be happy. And when we do we're worrying about something else. It's like being flung around from side to side like a bird in a gale. During that awesome electronic segment, you hear all these broadcast noises and TV shows etc. Just a bunch of useless information and in amongst it you can barely hear a woman say "I love you". We're distracted by all this shit that we either don't have time or don't want to focus on the important things like love and things that fulfil us emotionally. Fantastic song.

    A.... 5....

brilliant song ,is it an observation .or a message I do hope people will get this ,otherwise my life has been pointless !

    A.... 5....

Trash your TV and start a normal life again :)

  29. W.... K....

    Gilmour releases new studio album.
    Brilliant cover.
Roger listens WTF this is nothing like the cover!
    Roger does better! LOL

  30. W.... K....

    Brilliant song dreadful mixing!
    Virtually unintelligible!

    W.... K....

think you'll find that that's rather the point

  31. .... ....

    3:26 favorite part

  32. M.... ....

    Roger Waters goes Post Punk...

  33. c.... ....

Much less produced than his previous efforts.

  34. R.... M....

I don't understand why this album isn't getting more attention than it is. Up there with the 70's albums IMHO!

Its possibly the Jewish lobby keeping it down.....

    R.... M....

Do you have something against Jewish people or something?

    R.... M....

    Agreed. This is a masterpiece

  35. S.... ....

"NORMAL!" wow such an intense beginning

  36. J.... M....

I probably have listened to this cd over 200 times. It is in my car and as many cd's that I have this is the only one I listen to. I also went to 2 of the shows this tour and was simply amazing. Rodger Waters finest solo project.

    J.... M....

Same here. I don't understand why this album isn't getting more attention than it is. Up there with the Wall! Its possibly the Jewish lobby keeping it down.

    J.... M....

    Amused to Death was better.

    J.... M....

@John Morris But this IS A GREAT Companion Piece.

    J.... M....

    Victor G cashier #6

    J.... M....

I hear ya. It is like a magnet. I can't stop listening to it. Epic Roger fucks up our brains lol

  37. R.... A....

ROGER U ROCK PINK FLOYD SUCKS WITHOUT U

    R.... A....

There is no more Pink Floyd. They split up in 2014.

    R.... A....

Deanne O Pink Floyd just made an album last year and it Sucks

    R.... A....

It's not Pink Floyd without Roger Waters. Nick Mason even said it himself that the band is done with.

    R.... A....

Deanne O Rogers been gone for 30 years

    R.... A....

Guess we should just appreciate the music he's come up with when he was still with Pink Floyd. Don't think any band will be able to recreate sound quite like he has, y'know?

  38. R.... ....

Sounds like Floyd to me! 😳 how's it sound like it's off of a Floyd album from the 70's? It's like a step back in time.

    R.... ....

From which era? Sounds nothing like Floyd except for the synths (that might remind some part of Dogs). But overall, I don't think that song is reminiscent of Pink Floyd at all.

    R.... ....

I agree with yea rat fink. Its pink floyd.

    R.... ....

Hints of Animals on this and I love it!!

    R.... ....

@Max Frenchy Nah, man. It really does. The heavily Waters influenced albums like Animals, Wish you were here and Final Cut.

  39. B.... H....

Una de mis favoritas, mucha energía!

  40. T.... H....

This shit right here now....whoa. They don't make speakers as loud as I want to hear it.

  41. c.... x....

Quintessential Waters! How can, when you listen to this record, hear bits and slices of everything from "saucerful and Pipers" to "amused" and it still sound so original?
its dark and brilliant. Empathetic and viscous. Melodic and manic. Poignant and hopeless. Eloquent and stark. The entire gambit of human emotion and motivation. Offered to us, in one turn, as a peaceful serenade and in the next verse beaten in to our brains with a bludgeoning weapon or crammed down the throat at the end of a fist. Brilliant, fucking brilliant.

    c.... x....

chuck xjarhed your a poet and you don’t know it ⚒⏰🐶🐗💰🌒🐷👁🐮🛏

    c.... x....

its up to us really ,you wont be alerted again ,not in this disgusting world

  42. K.... G....

GOD I wish he would do the whole new album live at his shows. Can you imagine the sound on this live?!

    K.... G....

Indeed saw his gig in Melbourne at the weekend and was a bit disappointed he didn't play it as it's a powerful tune. However, the back catalogue sufficed!!!!! (And ridiculous light show!)

  43. C.... R....

This entire album is musical magic... Puts me in such a good mood!

  44. T.... O....

The dog is scratching at the door!

    T.... O....

    And he is still scratching....🐕

  45. R.... ....

wouldn't be a Waters album without a sound byte of a radio changing channels!

  46. R.... ....

This song is already great. But imagine how it would sound with Gilmour's guitar!

    R.... ....

Rather not, thank you very much. It's Waters, not Floyd (and is Gilmour really that good of a guitar player? I think not.) On the other hand, imagine Mason drumming...

    R.... ....

Roger wants each album to be different and does not want the songs to sound the same with Gilmour's guitar. This albums instrumentals are great and has the right touch for the concept album that was created.

    R.... ....

@Silvano Rossi : actually, it's Gilmour not willing to work with Waters again, and so is it for Mason, and so was it for the late Wright. They gave him a chance with Live-8, stated he hadn't changed and weren't in enduring it again, despite Waters would have liked.

    R.... ....

@Izno Iznogoud I disagree. Waters left PF because he was the only one writing material. He was not getting any contributions from DG or others. The DSOTM and the Wall were big album's mostly written by Waters. Final Cut was all Waters and is a masterpiece. You need all members willing to put in the work otherwise you have one going it all.

    R.... ....

To very dark for a stratocaster guitar of David Gilmour

  47. j.... ....

I was 12 when Dark Side was released and haven't stopped listening since. 4th time live com'n in July. Can't wait. Don't ever retire Roger; you're the best and this album is classic already!

    j.... ....

Ill be in Greensboro on the 18th!

    j.... ....

jonmr520 saw him in Boston. It was great.he did s few cuts. But I agree. This is like the Wall on a psychedelic level.

  48. d.... ....

    Welcome to the machine

  49. D.... B....

most underrated track on the album

  50. N.... S....

    Only 8 comments...

    N.... S....

Oh I will die one day as you too. I will not die with anyone I know hating me though.

    N.... S....

Roger's Better than you hater. Let's see if you can do Better

    N.... S....

I have been married over 40 years to the same lovely lady. Raised 3 great children who I love dearly. Roger is better than me at spewing hate...I agree.

  51. D.... R....

Sounds like some re-hash of Animals near the end on into it....

    D.... R....

Dt Rogers both gilmlur and waters have done that over the years in all their music

    D.... R....

@Rush : not really : post Waters Floyd went ahead, Waters is stuck with Animals/Wall/Final Cut without colleagues talent to save the day

    D.... R....

poat Waters floyd is garbage, some of the dumbest and most mediocre songs i've heard

  52. D.... 1....

The ending and outdo for this song (as well as a few bits throughout the album) reminds me of the end of "Bring the Boys Back Home"

    "Wrong! Do it again!"
"Time to go! [knock, knock, knock, knock]
    "Are you feeling okay?"
"There's a man answering, but he keeps hanging up!"
    Is there anybody out there?

    D.... 1....

DeadHeroOrAliveVillain 1019 I would have really liked something to the effect of "Hello, this is the United States calling. You are cordially invited to the unveiling of The Wall" *hangs up*
