Roger Waters - 4.50 AM (Go Fishing) Lyrics

As cars go by I cast my mind's eye
Over back packs on roof racks
Beyond the horizon
Where dream makers
Working white plastic processors
Invite the unwary
To reach for the pie in the sky
Go fishing my boy!

We set out in the spring
With a trunk full of books about everything
About solar devices
And how nice natural childbirth is
We cut down some trees
And we trailed our ideals
Through the forest glade
We dammed up the stream

And the kids cooled their heels
In the fishing pool we'd made
We held hands and we exchanged bands
And we practically lived off the land
You adopted a fox cub
Whose mother was somebody's coat
You fed him by hand
And then snuggled him down
In the grandfather bed while I wrote
We grew our own maize
And I only occasionally went into town
To stock up on antibiotics
And shells for the shotgun that I kept around
I told the kids stories
While you worked your loom
And the sun went down sooner each day.

*Chapter six in which Eeyore has a birthday
And gets two presents
Daddy...come on dad
Eeyore the old grey donkey stood by the side
Of the stream and he looked at himself in the water
"Pathetic" he said, "That's what it is"
"Good morning Eeyore" said Pooh
"Oh" said Pooh, He thought for a long time

The leaves all fell down
Our crops all turned brown
It was over
As the first snowflakes fell
I realised all was not well in the camp
The kids caught bronchitis
The space heater ran out of diesel
One weekend a friend from the East
Rot his soul
Stole your heart
I said "Fuck it then

Take the kids back to town
Maybe I'll see you around"

And so...leaving all our hopes and dreams
To the wind and the rain
Taking only our stash
Left our litter and trash
And set out on the road again
On the road again

Bye Bye Daddy, Bye Daddy
You can bring Pearl she's a darn nice girl
But don't bring Liza

Amazing throughout, but 5:58 - end is one of the best climaxes of a Waters song.

  3. S.... K....

rogers best solo song, he died to sing it right , he died to put this thing togother, he died when he was born, he died at his concept of ,,,,,LIFE AND LIVING AND BREAKING THE WALLS BETWEEN US AND THEM......well, he's still alive......and going well.....hope for the next album......

Anyone else notice the EXACT SAME chord progression from In The Flesh?

    A.... ....

Almost like they were written during the same period of time or something.

    A.... ....

Wasn't it in the bathroom stall scene in The Wall?

    A.... ....

Waters proposed to the rest of the band two projects: this and the wall, so a draft of both was actually written at the same time. "Sexual revolution" had already been written and they even tried to put it in the wall to describe Pink's sexual frustration. That said, I think the In the flesh theme only appears as one of Waters' self-referential cameos.

    A.... ....

actually is common! check it out rapsody boheme and love of my life from queen! almost same chord progression , complety different songs ! :)

  12. r.... ....

One of the best (if not the best) songs from a solo P.F. artist.

  13. J.... C....

And so, leaving all our hopes and dreams to the wind and the rain, taking only our stash, left our litter and trash, and set out, on the road again.

  14. J.... S....

    Baby, i'll see u around

  15. P.... C....

    country floyd

    P.... C....

Paulo Cardoso If only it was Floyd :/ Gilmour would have killed it on this song.

  16. A.... J....

interesting while watching the wall (the film ) during the 'trial' scenes while he sits next to a toilet in the public bathroom reading some scraps of lyrics /poetry if you listen to what he is reading......
"and I put out my hand just to touch her soft hair to make sure in the darkness that you were still there and I have to admit I was just a little afraid...... buy then I had a bit of luck you were awake I couldn't take another moment alone."

  17. S.... ....

The best track of the album.

    S.... ....

+Sole2007 Sexual revolution, sorry i luv clapton :(

    S.... ....

O Melhor album do clapton made in floyd

    S.... ....

    Sole2007 definitely

  18. R.... M....

    Just after 4 20 ?

  19. C.... ....

Just finished his latest work cannot wait \\0//......\\0//.....\\0//....Go on Rodger Waters

  20. A.... D....

Interestingly, after Animals, Waters brought two concepts (complete with nearly unlistenable home demo recordings) to the other members of Pink Floyd. One was "Pros and Cons", the other, "The Wall". Also, considering that "The Final Cut" is made up of several reworked leftover tracks from "The Wall", it is clear why the three records have so many similarities.

  21. T.... W....

We held hands and we exchanged bands and we practically lived off the land.

  22. n.... ....

@Veronika Gabčíková I hear it too. Very similar tunes.

  23. T.... P....

Yep and at 1:35 "do you remember me? how we used to be? do you think, we should be closer?" from The Final Cut. I forgot the actual song name somehow.

    T.... P....

    Toukon Plays Games possible pasts

  24. t.... ....

I read that roger brought this album and the wall to the rest if the band ( Floyd) and they chose to do the wall instead. If you notice on the commemorative edition of the wall that was recently released, there is a demo version of sexual revolution' on there from the wall sessions.

  25. t.... ....

    This album changed my life

    t.... ....

me too, sad and depressing. Last time I cried for no real reason. Wonderful and moving. The wind and the rain.

  26. M.... B....

saxofone e tudo mais muito lindo.

  27. M.... ....

is there anything sweeter in this song than the back up vocals chiming in with "fuck it then" class all the way love you roger

  28. M.... ....

    everyone hears it

  29. P.... F....

Waters did it deliberately. Hints of many other tracks from The Wall and The Final cut can be heard on this album.

  30. 5.... ....

" i told the kids stories while you worked your loom,
and the sun went down sooner each daaaayyy"

    5.... ....

    I said “Fuck it then.”

  31. h.... ....

This has to be his most ingenous concept for an album. Although pulling off erecting a wall was pretty clever for stage show!

  32. h.... ....

(You can hear spark up a joint) come on dad! Than he reads the book while holding the hit.

  33. h.... ....

Love the part ladies and gentlemen plzz welcome Regan and Haige...(killer orchestration)

  34. A.... ....

There's also the In The Flesh theme in this song

  35. r.... ....

    that's David Sanborn!

  36. M.... ....

The Fletcher memorial, home for incurable tyrants... And kings!

  37. V.... G....

at 1:20 - The Fletcher Memorial Home... or am I the only one who hear this in it? :)

    V.... G....

You are not alone our kid :)

  38. A.... W....

Sound like a the final cut and the wall... i love it... and Rog, my hero!

  39. A.... W....

    i love that track! ^^

  40. f.... ....

I think it's because Waters was working out the ideas for The Wall and Pros & Cons... at the same time.

  41. M.... ....

    Awesome - thank you^^^^^

  42. r.... ....

Great sax solo. It reminds me of Clarence Clemons's solo on Bruce Springsteen's Jungleland

  43. M.... ....

    "Good morning, Eor" said Pooh...

  44. M.... ....

this album is chock full of Floyd references : )

    M.... ....

Because Roger Washington the Braun of the gang!

  45. M.... ....

notice the match light and toke hold when Dad (Reg? Rog?) is reading Winnie the Pooh to his kids??

  46. p.... ....

glad roger got clapton on this track...he did a good job.

  47. d.... l....

love Clapton's slide axe in this

  48. b.... ....

    162 views.......... disgraceful !

    b.... ....

    What do you mean?
