Roger Miller - Whistle Stop Lyrics
You can't roller skate in a buffalo herd
You can't roller skate in a buffalo herd
You can't roller skate in a buffalo herd
But you can be happy if you've a mind to
You can't take a shower in a parakeet cage
Can't take a shower in a parakeet cage
But you can be happy if you've a mind to
All you gotta do is put your mind to it
Knuckle down, buckle down, do it, do it, do it
Well, you can't go swimmin' in a baseball pool
Can't go swimmin' in a baseball pool
You can't go swimmin' in a baseball pool
But you can be happy if you've a mind to
You can't change film with a kid on your back
Can't change film with a kid on your back
But you can be happy if you've a mind to
You can't drive around with a tiger in your car
Can't drive around with a tiger in your car
You can't drive around with a tiger in your car
But you can be happy if you've a mind to
All you gotta do is put your mind to it
Knuckle down, buckle down do it, do it, do it
Well, you can't roller skate in a buffalo herd
Can't roller skate in a buffalo herd
You can't roller skate in a buffalo herd
But you can be happy if you've a mind to
You can't go fishin' in a watermelon patch
Can't go fishin' in a watermelon patch
You can't go fishin' in a watermelon patch
But you can be happy if you've a mind to
You can't roller skate in a buffalo herd
You can't roller skate in a buffalo herd
You can't roller skate in a buffalo herd
But you can be happy if you've a mind to

Roger Miller Whistle Stop Comments
Can´t find the hampsters! Where are they???
When the Hamsterdance song came about in the late 90's or early 2000's I thought it was great and funny. There was something familiar about it that I couldn't quite put my finger on. Then one day it hit me that I had owned the Robin Hood Soundtrack when I was a 4-5 year old in the early 70's. My niece and I used to play this song repeatedly .
The hampster dance brought me here
his face looks like a zoomed super mario 64 texture
'love this
I'm here because it pisses my dog off
an arrow brought me here
O_o
Asshole.
Josh dun brought me here.thanks
Hamsterdance was brought in 2000 single by the sample song
my whole Childhood , just my whole damn Childhood , thats all i can say...-_-
Robin hood haha
Roger miller great singer
This isn't similar to Alan a Dale version. The hampster dance doesn't pitch. Alan-A-Dale's song is ALMOST like the original, but it vamps or improvs in a few places. As to Alan-A-Dale and HampsterDance, they diverge on the 9th note. Hardly mirror images of each other. Both Alan-A-Dale's song and HampsterDance build off of Roger Miller's "Whistle Stop," but they are not the same. So no, HampsterDance did not "pitch it up."
The single, whose commercially released version featured a sound-a-like sample (the band having failed to gain permission to use the original)
what can I say "the actual website sampled it. The song does not"
0:06 who the geck is laughing?
My dad loved robin hood and used to whistle and hum this to me when i was little, just randomly popped in my head so i found the song
Swifter673 growing up with a British stepfather I can even say the same. This song is imprinted into my brain
It's an interesting pattern seeing the previous generation of another generation trying to be unique by not claiming they know what something is all with a condescending overtone, mostly they don't like the ignorance of the next generation due to the fact a popular media outlet used it. Born in a certain year claim you've never heard of hampsterdance, born a little before that claim you've never seen 1973 Robin Hood, born a little younger than that claim you knew about Roger Miller long before Robin Hood used it.
This pattern has recycled many times down the line from, Queen: Under Pressure (inspired Ice Ice Baby), Axel F: harold faltermeyer (inspired crazy frog), Venga Boys: We Like To Party (Six flags theme song), Minutemen's Corona: (jackass theme song), Billy Momo: Wishing Ain't No Sin, (previously on Better Call Saul), The Heavy: Short Change Hero(Borderlands 2 theme song), etc...
Whatever brought you here just be happy that people are talking about it and are interested enough to find the original versions. Just remember, everyone in the world is experiencing something for the first time at one point or another. Also, anyone who has commented here, or viewed this page is now aware of the original song, so don't be such dicks to them. I am a little hypocritical because I am also guilty of doing this, but seeing the vast difference in age here triggered quite the epiphany.
Yahtzee! (let's Drown out)
Purgatory is an eternal elevator ride listening to this.
I never knew this song had anything to do with Disney. One of my earliest memories was listening to this song in preschool when the teacher played it for us on a little, “Preskool” record player.
I have searched high and low for this song, but didn’t know the name for where to look. THIS to me, is the original before the different (and inferior) versions I have found elsewhere on here. Thank you for sharing. This song is priceless.
Hampsterdance (Vaporwave Remix)
For those of you looking for the Robin Hood version of this song . . . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxnvxtYfsd4
Yes, I hate Hamster Dance, there was once a man name Roger Miller.
what i always liked about this song was how easy it was for it to get into your ear.you'll be walking down the street one day and suddenly find yourself whistling this, despite yourself...
Some good-ass music to listen to while stoned 😄
2018!! Love this
Such nostalgia.
Homestuck bought me here
*Rhino dancing in corner.*
Who else but Roger Miller could do this & get away with it? Amazing man!
My friend and I made a really stupid remix of this song...
I doubted my sanity during the entire process...
What do you think about it? It's on my channel!
Roger Miller could do a song using tuned farts & i'd like it. He was brilliant!
........I could've gone without knowing that >_>
Robin Hood brung me here! 😂😂😂
does Joe Walsh even have a chance ageist this rooster?

Gone too soon. R. I. P. Roger we're still listening. Thanks for posting.
How to give anyone from the ancient internet days a traumatic flashback and visualizations of their own deaths.
To think this inspired The HampsterDance song 20 years later after it released.
I should probably stop listening to this. Every single time I listen to this song, I end up whistling it uncontrollably for weeks.
But so fucking Retarded but funny
Doodo dodo ha ha
I'm here because of rusty cage.
Glenn Johnson Great stuff.Had this album "Sorry i havent written lately" and it went missing during a house move.Been searching for this track and others since. Thanks a million for this upload.
I first heard this year's ago in Robin Hood and it wasn't till much later that I heard about the hamster dance
This was part of my childhood not the "Hampsterdance".
I need to add that I was born in 2000, No "Hampsterdance" but yes "Robin hood"
You can faintly hear people laughing in the background lmao
h a m s t e r d a n c e
i've been whistling this for AGES and i had no idea what it was
Just great
I made a montage of stupid comments on reddit to this track
Excuse my arrogance, I reckon this would sound lovely with a fiddle and banjo as a Irish instrumental, or something of that ilk
Three words: Hamp. Ster. Dance!!!!!!!
Speed this up and you got the hamster dance song lol
The True Original!
Not hamsterdance... its hamPsterdance (don't forget the P)
Got here by researching Hamster Dance.
I love the background laughs!

Love this one
Hamsterdance haha BEST!:)
I really gotta find some tabs for the intro of this song.
*ROBIN HOOD*.....
A few years or so after this song was released The Hampsterdance song was created. Which, quite frankly, is actually kind of better.
Suppose it depends on your definition of 'few'. I would think twenty-seven years might be a bit more than that :)
@Jack Smith Holy SHIT you did the research.
Thanks, sir.
my African Grey really likes it
Should only be played at x2 speed!!! =^o.o^=
Oh boy.
Your right lol
Genius !
1.5x is more accurate.
HampsterDance
I'm wondering what the licensing rights are around this song? Would love to use it on a radio show...
How the heck do they flutter their whistles like that
Nah this was the seventies. Trust me its possible its just really hard. Ive been able to do it with practice
@h76tr Haha, I know, I know.
T'was but a joke..
Ah ok xD You gave the fastest reply to me I've ever seen in YouTube
you have to move your tongue back and forth in your mouth
they're one of those people who whistle through their teeth with their tongue instead of puckering their lips
Robin Hood brought me here.
me too!!
Samezies
Same here.
same, doing a school project
HAMSTERDANCE!
Didn't think I would ever find out that this was an actual song.
Edit: thought it had something to do with Disney. Robin Hood!
Yes children. This is where hamster dance came from. As you get older, you'll discover that most of the stuff you hear was predated by something else.
Rule #0 of troping: Shakespeare did it first.
I KNEW it sounded familair. I am almost 40 & I heard this on Alexa just now. Said "Wait a tic ... i knew this!" as in before THD. I'll be damned. Wait til I tell the missus ...
Ok Boomer
Ok boomer
I love this song so much!
RIP Roger Miller.
That's a bit late
Ok, now play it at .5 and it feels like drugs!!

Robin Hood, Hamster Dance... FINALLY THE ORIGINAL *_*
+Claudio Leitao Everybody who calls this Hampster Dance should burn in hell!
+Vermilion77 It's the Hampster Dance. I'm going to burn in Hell anyway, so why not?
He played the Rooster in RobinHood... so you can kind of consider that the original.
i think it was written for disney he wrote most the songs from that movie
@Vermilion77 YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH ROBIN HOOD IS better than cringey old memes
And it was also featured in Disney's Robin Hood.
If you died and went to purgatory, this song would play on a non-stop loop.
What are you talking about? The version for Robin Hood has been the background music on an infinite cycle in my head since I was about 3 and I WOULDN'T WANT IT ANY OTHER WAY.
I don't see a problem with that
CameronJ is that a bad thing?
At least purgatory would be entertaining
Sounds more like fucking heaven to me bro
