Rodney Crowell - I Know Love Is All I Need Lyrics
So I'm an orphan now out here on my own
And it's hard to know where I belong
It comes as no surprise, it happens to us all
Just like the sun will rise night will fall
I know love is all I need
I know love is all I need
That's all I know
An image I recall a picture on the wall of my mother on her wedding day
Young and naive nothing up her sleeve
But the things that just got lost along the way
And I know love is all I need
I know love is all I need
That's all I know
There's a voice I hear it comes in loud and clear
It's my father's voice teaching me
He says to be a man you've got to be true to your word
And when you make a stand you'll be heard
And I know love is all I need
I know love is all I need
I know love is all I need
That's all I know
I can see it in my children
I can feel it with my wife
And I know it with these friends I have
So important to my life
I had a dream last night
I saw my mom and dad
They were happy now and I was glad
They had a brand new house that they'd just moved in
And when I awoke they were gone again
But I know love is all I need
I know love is all I need
I know love is all I need
That's all I know

Note to self! A year later & things haven't changed all that much. Can do without a repeat of last year. A better outcome seem possible !
Genius come to mind
Yes, simply just awesome....
one of his loveliest songs. Rodney is one of our greatest songwriters because he brings his life into his songs, and they resonate with truth and grace. great post!
I knew Rodney when I lived East when Houston was a younger "town".Always had a gift for gab,a transistor radio, and Jesus Christ ! his faith worked. What alot of great songs!I am grateful to know he is the the author of some of my very favorites.Summer nights were spent outdoors at the drive-ins,Sunday bar-b-q's,Church,and friends and family.I am proud of you for working so hard,Rodney. Sandra
the more I listen to this, the more I love it
Sadness & loss. We endure it. What's the alternative?
If by 20 you meant ever I coud not agree more. If you grew up in Houston in the 60s and do not have this CD you should have to move to Dallas
Beauty Is Beautiful...... Angels singing......H-Town ....
I know the chords he is playing but does anyone know or have a link to the exact travis picking pattern he is using? Is it just a standard 4 string pattern?
my gma just died and it was 6 years after gpa i slept in the house so full of family and life with my mom the other night the house was so quiet ,,, my mother so sad i said mom did you ever think in our life we would be the only two sleeping in this house.... i watched her finally sleep and i sang this is my mind until i fell asleep.
I grew up on Telephone road Just a few miles from where Rodney did. He is 10 years older so I never knew him but it is amazing to me how similar our lives were. That is except for his musical talent. I play alot of his songs which is easy. He wrote so many beautiful compositions that he will always be my favorite.
First time I heard this song was at Rodney's Nottingham (UK) Rock City concert when he was touring The Houston Kid with Will Kimborough. You realise on first listen what a fascinating and beguiling number it is. The perfect way to round off the album. Those are killer opening words: 'So I'm an orphan now, out here on my own.' Looking forward to the Chinaberry Sidewalks tour coming to England.
It doesn't get any better than this ...glorious stuff ....
@koenan1 Me too,
beautiful :)
Thanks to Fresh Air for bringing this poignant song and thoughtful songwriter to so many new ears (mine included!).
Almost too good!
A truly wonderful song ,this artist is so underrated in this crap era for music surely the worst ever.
Rodney was the BEST concert of 2010....I may never see a show as special and wonderful as the show he performed in Columbia, Missouri USA. OUTSTANDING!
A lovely song.
For a few years Rodney would close his show with this song.
I never wanted a Rodney show to end.
Thank you for sharing.
@Ze18613
I agree with you Ze, It's a truly great record.
@TheSteved1 On the last 10 years? Please name a few albums
