Rodney Crowell - I Couldn't Leave You If I Tried Lyrics
The sun is coming up and I'm just going down
Everywhere I look the world keeps turning round
Though I said I never would be satisfied
Baby I lied, I couldn't leave you if I tried
And every bridge I cross just turns me upside down
And every stumbling step I take back to your side
Hurts my pride, I couldn't leave you if I tried
Well I could not walk away no matter what I say
I won't be leaving, believe it or don't
You're all that I want
Tears may fall but after all is said and done
Darlin' please believe me you're the only one
Baby I lied, I couldn't leave you if I tried
I won't be leaving you no matter what I do
I'm gonna see it through to the end and do it again
Years may come and friends may go but that's ok
Darlin' you're the only one I need to stay
I know I said I never would be satisfied
Baby I lied, I couldn't leave you if I tried
I couldn't leave you if I tried

Rodney Crowell I Couldn't Leave You If I Tried Comments
What a talented man--and really cute, too!😊⛪
The best !!!!!!
One of my most favorite songs to sing at karaoke.
He got old gracefully, Emmy Lou Harris on the right side and Rodney Crowell the left side they got old together. They've been singing together for more than 30 years. Their still both beautiful.
I don't remember the Precise year this debuted on TNN {The Nashville Network } 1988 maybe ? .... BUT , I DO remember thinking to myself " I've Got to record this somehow..... This , is gonna be Big ..... I recorded it as best I could on what most of us had at the time ... VCR ..... or maybe a cassette -player ..... MUCH later , of course I was able to get great stuff like this on C.D's .......
It's that Vince Gill playing fiddle on the back of that pick up truck?
You're the real country Music I love to hear Mr Crowell.
Gawd!!!! I miss him!
He's not dead
@JPCP M did not say that... Just miss him on the radio all the time😉
Love your music Rodney Crowell
Cheers my dears and turn it up!!
Let that song be heard, oh yeah!!
Couldn't be the best young singer ever!
It's 2020 now....he's touring in April ....I'm impressed
Good one
Can someone please tell me who the musician's were in this video?
Going to see him in concert today it’s gonna be awesome
He s aged but still cute...a real country singer and songwriter.
Nice Voice and a handsome guy ...
Wish country music was still like this I don’t even listen to the radio anymore seems country music ain’t like this anymore
Ken Burns brought me here.. never heard of Rodney before the documentary, wow, what a Nashville musician big leaguer!
Great video. Great singing and song. A real treat for any real Southerner.
A great singer. Love ❤️ this song
Thank you for line of songs. It is the greatest Thankyou
I just liked the song from the very first time i heard it. but with each passing day, i am becoming a crazy fan of this song! for me, this is a "sunshine song". 😁 everyone looks so beautiful and happy..everyday i listen to it and keep watching the video at the same time..cause the singer is too damn smart and I feel rejuvenated whenever I listen to it. ☺
Real Country&Western music! Now what you hear is shit music!
Rodney Crowell used to be married to Roseanne Cash.
That first guy that came up in pickup knows good country music.
Is Good Music, Excellent.
Anyone else notice how he lifted the melody at 1:04 from "Spanish Harlem"? Cool. If you're gonna steal, steal from the best.
Real country music with a melody and words you can understand that aren't repeated 20 times ..... The current crop could take some lessons from this guy.
When this guy sings, he touches hearts!
He has an amazing voice and can do a heck of a good Elvis.
Anybody that would give this a thumbs down does not know much about what makes a good song.
If I'm not mistaken that is Steuart Smith on guitar?
He will still be Rosanne Cashe's husband. You go Rodney. Well done cowboy.
Country is NOT what it used to be or should be!
Love this song
I clearly remember seeing / hearing this video for the first time , on CMT , within a couple of years of my becoming a civilian again in the mid 80's .... I had a premonition then , that This would be Big but , decided to video -tape it for my collection , and later listening -pleasure ..... C.D's hadn't quite hit the scene yet { except , in a way , I guess they had , earlier .... [ laser-discs , which I Had seen my army -buddies use ] .. Part , of the " Outlaw -Movement " , was to let Country -artists rebel against the music-industry(?) being so anal and restrictive with their form of music .... But , I " think " it also opened the door to what eventually took over the industry .... { you could see it creeping in , with the growing proliferation of " cross-over " songs in the 80's /90's ..... > more types of radio -stations / more air-play < .... It became All about the " Benjamin$$$ " ....and the Original outlaws lost a Lot of ground after 2000 ..... Then , of course , we lost a few to old age / drinking /drugging / radio -stations " claiming " to be Country , not playing their stuff without a healthy Bribe .... etc...
Right on target! That 80s explosion of the best rockabilly/country were exciting times for musicians kicking around Nashville! Gavin Magazine produced a much needed departure from tired ole silly ass boots, beer, dogs 'n trucks country, with the first "Americana" chart, giving a whole new avenue away from the corporate country rock crap! Thank God it's still alive with new blood! Good post, David. A late welcome home!
Countrabilly
🎯 absolutely!
Very Good.
Hey I hear radio it’s about time to start play more the good oldies but goodies country singers and rock and roll singers to
Quite a lineup. They were all so young.
This guy could sing the fone book and make your name a star. Appreciate the influences of different kinds of music in his songs.
Love it
Is is me? or is it that his look and this video doesn't' really match his voice and the song. Does bring back some memories though...
I haven't heard this song in years now, ty YouTube
Exactly...the only place to find good country music nowadays.
One of the finest country artists ever!
I’ve always loved this song and Rodney Crowell 👍🏻👏🏻🌟🎤🥰❤️‼️
Should've been recognized more for his efforts...I feel Rodney is like Gene Watson, overlooked a bit. A shame because BOTH Are GREAT Entertainers
Yeah, not fair Nashville! He wrote a lot of songs done by a lot of folks. He's Nashville royalty now!
Voice that sounds like Roy Orbison. Gotta dance.
great stuff
Great voice love his songs
Good old country that's country the stuff nowadays fake
And I couldn't go past this song in the sidebar without listening and sharing! Thanks!
Same, Ruth! Great times back then...
One of Rodney's five number ones. This is the country music I know and love.
They need to bring back the oldies but goodies of country music again
Rodney will always have one of the best voices in country music.
What a 1988 Country Music Classic !!!!!
Such a cutie pie❤
LOVE this fuckin song!!!
catchy ! i like it !
Oh my Gosh! I love this song! It’s the first song I learned to 2 step to. I was 28. I love his voice and he is a handsome man! Time to get a new playlist going on my phone. Going back to the GOOD COUNTRY!
This is a beautiful song!
anyone know where this was filmed? I think, by the road sign, It may be Philip, MS. Just trying to find the location to see what it looks like today
A lot of these songs from the 80s were shot in and around Nashville, farms etc.
Band members in video(not to be confused with studio musicians who played on the actual sound recording). So I start off with assumptions
1. Drummer appears to be Harry Stinson
2. Fiddler on left appears to be Vince Gill
I need help with the rest
Can they put a little more pancake makeup on Crowell? Geez.
I think Nashville is missing the boat. Rodney Crowell is a terrific singer and deserves a lot more recognition that he gets!
Brilliant
That's right. He's one of the best!!!
If it aint got a fiddle or a steel guitar, it aint country!!
Leon redbone imposter on steel slide😁
Why am I thinking of Keith Partridge?
Well if you were a boy ! I'd say your gay ! Lol
Songs of this good old standard is so rare today, miss old days music. Thanks we have Youtube
I love this song. :)
Did you notice near the beginning he didn’t realize the camera change angle 😂
Einstein ! They film with more than one camera at the same time ! It was a editing blunder ! And for you too think. You are so smart goes to show how smart you really are !!!
J aime énormément la country, et j'adore l couldn't leave de Rodney Crowell !!
Rodney played in Emmylou Harris Hot band with James Burton !!
The man yelling in the car don't appreciate good music. His mama probably fed him sour milk....
Rodney Crowell used to be married to Roseanne Cash.
Thanks I didn't know that !
@Marty Rezac that was a long time ago. I think they are divorced now
My daddy saw Rodney Crowell at the Big Horn County Fair in Basin,Wyoming
I was About 22 growing up in Arica Chile.. Country music fills my romantic heart with gladness ..
Love Love this Song so much!! Beautiful 💞💞💞💞
Rodney is one of the best Neo-Tonkers, ever! And damn if I don't hate it when somevpesky band jams up a 4 way intersection like that!
I remember two stepping to this wonderful song... missing those days ...
Who is the Smokin blond in the red suitwith black hose?
Beautiful song
Is that drummer Rodney's brother?
I believe it is Harry Stinson. He plays with Marty Stuart and the Superlatives now. I could be wrong.
I'm an old city-slicker with degrees in music & got a teaching job in a rural school back about 1988, and started playing bass in a country/rock bar band & experiencing the 'new' & popular tunes/artists in the genre taking the nation by storm...at least rural America. So I started really listening to songs on country radio & making the guys rehearse new tunes that I thought would give our band a fresher country sound & have dance appeal. Well, I gotta tell ya, the instant I heard this nice bass-driven shuffle I loved it and knew we had to cover it. (Sorry, no royalties for ya from our cover band! lol!) And it's some of the little things in the song - like the B+5 at the end of the Bridge and how the Bridge melody only uses 3 notes (I don't consider it a Chorus really...), the nice uncomplicated guitar melody solo and the deceptive cadence in the song's ending going to an Am...simple, effective...nice!
PS I didn't know, or forgot, how well your 1988 'D & D' album did in terms of critical acclaim & hot hits...dang, boy, almost half the tracks on the album went #1 for you & the gang! (Talk about royalties - it must be nice going to your mailbox once a month or so & fishing out a huge check for them hits! LOL! And you deserve every cent! Well done!)
Wish JR COUNTRY WOULD PLAY THIS KIND OF MUSIC IN VANCOUVER B.C. CANADA.
This Rodney Crowell’s song is awesome ....and stops traffic in small towns....
Real country music
I mean this Timothy
Yeehaw!! Love it 🙈
When I met Steve Marcantonio (album's engineer) at a trade show session a few years ago, I told him that I ranked this album right up there with Abbey Road & Sgt Pepper. Made his day.
love this video; Rodney does a fantastic job on this song; love it
This new junk is not country just trash! It's sad that the singers in Ireland sound like our Country Music use to.
Rodney Crowell , I haven't heard your voice in years.
He is good and he and Rosanne Cash were an item at the time.
They were married, but broke up. Still friends.
Good Music
I couldn't leave you if I tried !!! 🙈💕💕
i like song
