Rod Stewart - You Got A Nerve Lyrics

Here you stand with tears in your eyes
crying into my arms
pleading with me to take you back
teasing me with your charms

But you got a nerve to come round here
after all you've said and done
I thought I had seen everything
obviously I was wrong

'Cause where were you when the sun went down
Skies turned dark and gray
Where were you when the north winds blew
Honey tell me where were you

I heard you were living down in Brazil
with them high class friends of mine
I can't believe I was so naive
Did I never once cross your mind

You told them all I was down and out
My existence you even denied
Oh what pleasure it gives me now
to know that you're bleeding inside

You were my life, you were my breath
You were every move I ever made
But recently my opinion's changed
The joke's on you I'm afraid

'Cause I have a woman so beautiful
For you I could no longer wait
Please go away you may spoil everything
Your love has turned up too late

Go away, go away
Please, please go away
I loved you once
I don't love you now
Please, please go away

Me too, to the many who claim this to be one of their favourite Rod songs. Rod has such a great voice so, I don't know, maybe such a great voice somehow allowed Rod to abandon song writing and survive on song interpretation for the most part. I'm glad that in the past few years he has rediscovered song writing. For me. bar none, Rod is the best.

  12. R.... B....

Amo questo disco in modo assoluto
Brano stupendo. ormai rod non fa più cose del genere. Peccato!

I was just a kid when I heard this for the first time. For whatever reason, I loved this song more than all other Rod Stewart
songs. Well, fast forward about 35-40 years and this song makes sense; because for the most part, I lived it. She was my
first wife and we married young at 23, but we were together for years. We moved from Northern Ontario to British Columbia
and we knew nobody there. We were planning a family and even after all of the years, I was still madly in love with her. When
we were late 20's, she was cheating on me. Though I wouldn't allow myself to see the signs or the evidence; deep down inside,
I knew it. A friend of mine had a girlfriend who was close with her and she hated what she was doing to me. One day she came
by our house early to pick her up to go out and asked to use the computer. She copied the emails that were being sent back
and forth between them and printed them off later. My friend told me it was bad but that I NEEDED to see the truth about what
had been going on. There were about ten pages of emails and I stopped looking after just the first. When people talk about a
"broken heart", it's true. It literally felt as though someone ripped my heart from my chest and there was a void inside. I thanked
my friend and asked him to leave. I knelt down on the floor and I cried. I sobbed like a baby for hours until she got home. She
saw me and the shape I was in and asked this: "Oh my God, who died?" I picked up the pages and handed them to her and I
said: "I did". She began apologizing and I just quietly told her to stop and to please go. I tasted the barrel of a loaded 12 gauge
shotgun several times that night; and over the next few months. Nothing else could stop the pain or remove the shame I felt.

I played this song as well as: "Scarred and Scared" many, many times over a long period of time after that. The tears are still
as hot on face now as I type this out as they were almost 20 years ago. I think she felt bad; but I don't believe that she was
ever sorry. She had a Nerve.

    C.... L....

Brave to share and thank you for sharing.

  26. D.... J....

You women can hurt us men so very badly... shame on you!!!

  27. J.... M....

I originally heard this track from the Foot Loose & Fancy Free album which was left behind at a party. Who owned it never claimed it, this was back in the early 1980s and it and the track You Got a Nerve gelled so well with differing experiences in my life. Nothing so potent as music.

  28. J.... W....

To my good friend Andy "Spilly" Millward...

    I think of you often.

    JW x

  29. U.... M....

    a very nice song,

  30. m.... ....

The first Rod album I ever bought, and this track is just perfection. I've always loved his hits, but his album tracks are often, to me, better. Is That The Thanks I Get, Best Days Of My Life, Scarred and Scared to name a few. Classics.

This is an old song that came along before I knew  you.  I've never met you and I don't know you except what I've heard through your music.  I am sorry it if went too far for you.  However, you know that I've never met you and I don't know you.  I am going away.  I wish you peace and love.  Shalom Abbie

  51. m.... c....

i love this tune so sad but hopeful in the end anybody thats been though a bad break up can relate to this one and the music is kind of haunting

    m.... c....

Very relate- able...Rod is awesome...I am a huge Barry Manilow  and Larry fan too...lol

    m.... c....

Ah Michael, break up's suck: making us miserable, destroying our self esteem, etc. And what is worse, is that after 20, 50 years from the break up both (we and them) forget even the way He/She looked like ! (oh, I forgot there are always pictures or videos we can look at...)

    m.... c....

@Peter Pan I kind of agree... but, there are some breakups we never do quite get over, I think.. or is it just me?

    m.... c....

+Chris England : No, sadly, you are not alone.

    m.... c....

    +Nova Dusty agree.

  58. n.... ....

I'm 46 and have been a huge FM & Stevie fan since I was 10 and Rumours had come out. My daughter now 10 has heard all of this great old "real" music. I hope I can keep her on that course!

  60. R.... S....

I remember going 2 a movie theater back N '78 2 C "Smokey & The Bandit" & B 4 the movie started, they were playing the "Foot Loose & Fancy Free" LP N the theater. That was of course back when they actually played music N stead of the ads that U now C N between movies. I already had the 45 short version of Hot Legs which was edited, so my wanting the longer version of that song, plus hearing this song that night N the movie theater was what led me 2 ask mom 4 that LP on my 8th birthday.

  61. S.... D....

“Што и да е ке помине““... вакво крадење Владо не ти поминува баш пријателе...

  62. P.... P....

Thank you dime, I first listened to this back" in 1991 and since then never ever found what the name of the song was... finally I know: You Got A Nerve". Obsessive mood this song has, to me.....

  63. 1.... ....

Strangely I thought this was an overlooked song by RS. The lyrics and tune were great.

  64. m.... ....

Just in time for my breakup at that time. Allot of tears to this song!! Still miss that girl.

  65. J.... E....

  70. 1.... ....

Really good underrated song..this is when RS was raw and wasnt as influenced by Hollywood expected type of song. Far better than "do you think I am sexy" song.

  73. l.... ....

    This is so good!

  74. a.... ....

Old rockers never die !! They merely accept their Knighthoods, reject their infamy, croon out old standard music their Grannies would have approved of, are injected with skin regenerating lamb placenta, go to bed early with a cup of cocoa and impregnate ridiculously young blond women with children who when born they cannot even stoop down to kick in the ass, let alone see or remember conceiving. Jealous ? Of course I am !!

  75. r.... ....

    there's only one rod stewart

  76. r.... ....

when i was young i didnt like or understand this song, now its so haunting, and the ending is so true to life and gives me closure. thank you rod stewart for singing it so good, with such emotion you almost convince me that you went thru this
