Rod's definitely live. You could well be right about the backing track though. This happened a lot in the 70s at the Beeb.

It's obvious that the music isn't live. Maybe Rod was really singing, but as been said, there are instruments not being played by the guys

Yeah a lot of bands who played ‘“live” on TV just had the vocals live and the band just miming. Really sucks and a horrible time for live music!

I like to think when they are all smiling and chuckling to each other during the steel guitar solo it was them thinking to themselves “what the fuck are we doing”

The great Ronnie Lane co-wrote this song. He is so underrated. I love the way he end some of his songs with a particular figure. Rod Stewart's voice is perfect. It's a shame he didn't take the faces with him on his great conquering singing journey.

+scouserla1 it was a big factor, but Ronnie had also had enough of the crazy lifestyle that went with The Faces. Unfortunately the public never took to Slim Chance and he never received the critical acclaim his solo output deserved. He was unique and some of his tracks (The Poacher, Anniversary, Roll On Babe, Done This One Before etc...) are up there with the best of anything Rod & The Faces recorded.

I wouldn't argue about Ronnie Lanes writing prowess. Didn't he write "stone" the Dylan type song the Faces recorded?

Ma dad got me into The Faces before I could walk. Always skipped this and Flying in my younger days. They are now 2 of my favourites. Timeless.
