Rod Stewart - Country Comforts Lyrics

Soon the pines will be falling everywhere
Village children always fighting for fair share
And the six-o-nine goes roarin' down the creek
As Parson Lee prepares his service for next week

I saw grandma yesterday down at the store
Well she's really lookin' fine for eighty-four
And she asked me if some time I'd fix the barn
Poor old girl, she needs a man down on the farm

Chorus:
And it's good old country comforts in my bones
Just the sweetest sound my ears have ever known
Just an old fashioned feeling in my bones
Country comforts and the road that's going home

Down at the mill they've got a new machine
Foreman says it cuts manpower by fifteen
"Oh, but that ain't natural" old man Grayson says
'cause he's a horse-drawn man until his dying days

(Chorus)

yes but the husky is so vivid

Rod could always add a great spin to any ones song!! He did his old mate Elton proud with this one!!

  3. J.... M....

My favorite song of my favorite singer! Thank you, Rod!!!

  4. B.... P....

Who is singing the backing vocals with him during the last chorus? strange choice. I like it though.

    B.... P....

    Says Jack Reynolds on Wiki

    B.... P....

    Jeff Beck

  5. B.... U....

  7. m.... ....

Probably my favorite song of Rod's(i know Bernie Taupin wrote it). He was awesome then helped to shape my teen years. Sad that disco ate his brain.

  8. L.... L....

    Elton's version is way better

  9. d.... m....

The bass part on this is awesome.

    d.... m....

I think Ronnie wood played both the bass and guitar on this, he used to play bass with Jeff Beck too

  10. I.... P....

The sound of this album is as knocking on good wood.

  11. B.... M....

I like how its not perfect. One of my faves by Rod the Mod

  12. J.... M....

Love hearing Ronnie Wood's guitar and Elton John's piano and duet vocal for his John/Taupin song with the greatest voice of all time: Rod Stewart.

    J.... M....

The piano is Pete Sears and the backing vocal Jack Reynolds

    J.... M....

    The very best

09/28/2018, still listening. Rod Stewart, a true artist, helped me through some difficult times back then and now.

  14. J.... E....

In 1970, Elton hated this version:

  15. B.... d....

Who sings with Rod here in the chorus?

    B.... d....

@Fred Anderson The singer was Harry Reynolds (RIP 03/01/2018) - My Dad - Recorded his own version in 1969 whilst in US studios before Elton John recorded it & got a ribbing from Elton for getting lyrics wrong. This was one of the 1st songs I learned to sing - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slcqEBZrPOI

    B.... d....

Brian de Meyer...Don't know who this is but great performance on the chorus! Ahhhh, the details!

    B.... d....

@Fred Anderson Ronnie Lane I guess...

    B.... d....

@swagelok1954 I believe Ron Wood played both guitar and bass on this

    B.... d....

    Jeff Beck

  16. J.... ....

Backing singer kills this one and the sloppy drummer.
    Love Elton's version.

  17. J.... ....

Prefer Elton's version to this version.

    But a great version nonetheless.

    Elton's backing band is wonderful.

    J.... ....

Me too but this one is ok

    J.... ....

So what, I love licking a woman to a great orgasm, but still a great song and a great version.

  18. J.... C....

    Best rendition of this song

  19. H.... W....

The backing singer destroys it a little.

    H.... W....

I disagree - I think it is exactly the color and texture that makes this version the best

  20. I.... B....

This is also on rod Stewarts album sing it again rod

    I.... B....

cobblestones were raised on lp cover

    I.... B....

    His best was here

    J.... Q....

    Ron Wood's too

  23. J.... C....

Love Elton's and Rod's versions equally. Thanks for posting.

  24. M.... K....

    Always a pleasure Rod!!!

  25. A.... C....

NO ONE sings "white blues" like Rod

    A.... C....

What the hell is "white" blues??? Blues is blues son!!!

    A.... C....

@Juan A I think he's trying to make the point that it is a little different when it's the English guy, Rod and the Americans Gregg & JT. It's all blues, that's true, but it comes with the Highlands sounds like mandolins when it is a white man, or Dickie and Duane, who may have done it as well as Sonny Boy and Robert Johnson.

  26. B.... G....

    That's Sir Rod...to you...

  27. M.... M....

We still love your music today Rod Stewart. I remember his music getting me through some hard times in my earlier life. We've survived.

  28. F.... ....

EJ would not have been EJ without Bernie.

    F.... ....

Wouldn't have had EJ or Rod without Long John Baldry

  29. T.... B....

    Great song,I love the Plano.

  30. D.... D....

Always liked this version over Elton John's.

    D.... D....

    Dennis Devine me too!

    D.... D....

    It's the best version

    D.... D....

musically superior to the eslton john..nicky hopkins God bless him.

    D.... D....

I prefer this version as well. Then again, I prefer raspy voices. I also prefer Joe Cocker's 'With a Little Help from My Friends' over the Beatles'. To each their own.

    D.... D....

God no,Elton's backing band is much better than this, the only good thing is the guitar solo but Elton's band is better to me.
