Robin Trower - Twice Removed From Yesterday Lyrics

"I think I've travelled here before
And stood upon this velvet shore
That looks out to the golden ship of Reason"

The man took to the gentle life
The wind cried to the skies
I felt that I would cry as I was leaving

Tomorrow is a step away
Twice removed from yesterday's sadness
Still I am a dream away
Twice removed from yesterday's sweet madness

"And in my dream, I thought I heard
The truth behind the spoken word
I thought that I had something to believe in"

But all too soon the dream was gone
And in the dust that lingered on
The tears that I'd shed tried to free me

Tomorrow is a step away
Twice removed from yesterday's sadness
Still I am a dream away
Twice removed from yesterday's sweet madness

Robin Trower Twice Removed From Yesterday Comments
  1. T.... P....

One of the best albums ever...certainly one of the top debut albums ever...

  2. s.... ....

Ah yes, exactly what this album needs. More doubled up 90 second long adverts 🤦‍♂️

  3. P.... G....

Trower got pegged as a Hendrix wannabe, but here we are just about 50 years after the death of Jimi and old Trower is STILL at it.
Jimi shot out white hot and wasn’t meant to be long for this world.
Thank God for Trower that he wasn’t turned inside out by the machine.
He’s like the world’s finest wine. And well Dewar as well as Reg Isadore made a stellar combination. So underrated.

  4. R.... F....

Saw Robin once in 72 with PH, then three times as a trio-my all time fave guitarist. Then saw him again two years ago in Durham NC touring solo.

  5. M.... V....

when Power Trio 💪 was real music 🎼 ✌

  6. K.... K....

Hannah could be way longer on that psychedelic part.

  7. L.... R....

Many people always talk about "Bridge Of Sighs" which is a great album, but for me this is still his best!.

  8. J.... C....

Must have been recorded 4 track. Someone was playing rytham and lead at the same time.dang what a

    J.... C....

    Great song

  9. E.... P....

The sound of Daydream is so profund and dreamy

  10. D.... S....

Back in the day when ARTISTS would write and perform original music, and didn't copy everyone else... err, or even cover classic Blues tunes in their own unique style. I still see Robin's live shows and truly miss James Dewar and his soulful voice.

  11. R.... S....

    "Hannah" WHAT A MASTERPIECE !!!

    ROBIN IS A GENIUS!
    RIP DEWAR †

  12. M.... G....

Saw these guys in concert ... amazing!

  13. K.... B....

    Fwippertronics

  14. J.... S....

Brilliant. Maybe that's why it didn't get the recognition it deserved. Whereas bands like Queen and Van Halen who produced garbage are famous.

  15. T.... ....

    "Daydream" is so beyond words...

    T.... ....

So true more beautiful now than when it first came out.

  16. G.... R....

James I had to come back. To comment. N bitch at the music world......so come back n bitch with me. .....it Ain happenin .. not here. You took the last soul

  17. k.... q....

    And Funky Paul cover...

  18. M.... B....

Someone mentioned RT's weak vocals as more or less spoken words. I assume the person was referring to "Twice Removed from Yesterday." It was spoken words you dolt. That was the intent. RT never tried to be the vocalist as long as JD was in the band. In that particular song the spoken word passages were meant to lead to Dewar's otherworldly passionate vocal passages. The technique probably has a name in music theory. It worked to great effect just as it did when The Moody Blues did it.

  19. J.... W....

Ladies and gentlemen, THIS is Robin Trower.

  20. L.... B....

No flash just pull it out, grab the needle lay back enjoy.

  21. r.... ....

America loves you, Randall. You took a significant album from the time when music mattered and offered it up in its original vinyl format. Well done, sir, nice post. Heartfelt for sure. Do you think you can share any of that love with our President? He could use it, and he loves our country so much!!!!! God bless.

  28. 4.... E....

great album please check out Essential Classic Rock Vinyl and many more videos on our channel

  29. H.... U....

This is Robin Debut album hard to find on CD also should have been Guitar Player's Magazine guitar album of the year in my opinion. No airplay or poor airplay. Very Sad ! A lot good album die that way. Ever Heard the Babys debut album great album poor airplay. Broken Heart was the Babys second release. It a good album also.

  30. H.... U....

This is in my opinion Robin Trower's Best album. It should been a huge success It did not get the airplay it deserves. The collection of quality of songs is mind bowing this was one of nine of Trower's albums from his first record label in my collection. I remember having a hard time finding it. Twice Remove From Yesterday track is my favorite reminds me a lot like Hendrix and still my favorite Trower song to this day.

  31. J.... S....

Love that Gibson violin bass on Sinner's song. Stands out in the mix. P bass is nice, but the Gibson has a serious tone that reflects an era.

    J.... S....

@Beach Goat ...then we have to go back to which Trower 'era' etc etc, especially with live performances. Can you please tell me which live performances, James used a Turner on stage? I only know of his Gibson/ Fender preferences.

    J.... S....

@Julius Schwencke bridge of sighs tour

    J.... S....

@Beach Goat ...1974. You must have been close to James to have picked out it was a Turner.

    J.... S....

@Julius Schwencke friend had one or I would have had no idea.

    J.... S....

@Beach Goat ...good spotting. Would have been hard to discern a Turner under most conditions. That Alembic heritage must have caught the eye. I play Gibson, so I know its tone. James's use on footage is the only source i have of him playing a Gibson, other than his own admission that he did. Trower never ventures this far down under, but his sound still prevails after all these years. RIP James.

  32. J.... M....

Saw Bridge of Sighs Tour Tampa 1975, Yes Bass Player Dewar’s voice was almost as mesmerizing as Robin’s lead chords and reverb. Enjoyed Robin through his blues period too. Both enjoyable.

  33. W.... W....

the master of the Stratocaster. .I have tickets to see him in Milwaukee this month .

  34. d.... w....

    His secret's the phaser.

  35. G.... B....

My favorite Robin Trower LP!! All his stuff is awesome, but I got this when it first came out..killer!! Of course bridge of sighs is considered better.. but this is the one for me as a guitar player...yeah!!!!!! thanks

  36. L.... L....

Thanks for the work you put into this post. A few more weeks in an intimate setting one of my guitar and band heroes Brother. 46 years since the Trower/Tull show. Still as fresh now as then!

  37. r.... n....

Spellbound........The Day I left the Railroad Job...Five Years in the Great Wide Open plus Metra, cash, Fare, or Intermediate. Sprecken Zie Cash....

  38. G.... D....

Robin makes every note count, even the silent notes he doesn't add.

  39. T.... ....

    Sinner's Song. Yeah, baby!

  40. K.... F....

45 years later and still Great! He took Jimi's place...

  41. G.... D....

I hear Hendrix, Lizzy, Paul Rodgers, Phil Mogg. In one place. Pieces of heaven.

  42. C.... F....

I hope my neighbors like this album. Cranking.

  43. B.... D....

A mate of mine called Graham Wigmore, from Southend-on-Sea lent me this years ago plus a Jess Roden album. I'm ashamed to admit I never returned. He left he's wife and my wife left me. Nothing to do with each other, so if you read this mate I owe you two brilliant albums still

  44. G.... D....

    Crazy good shit.

  45. M.... H....

So good stuff and underrated guitarist Robin Trower. One of my favorites guitar players all time. Gracias amigo Randall!

  46. A.... E....

This music. Is almost like a warning to us that FEEL IT that our time our season and it's end is near. Giving you a moment to reflect. Tip your glass to something fine.... a Good memory or even a sad one. Regardless we existed this was our moment. On to the next Journey. Farewell my generation!!!!

  47. P.... W....

I was blessed to go to 6 different concerts of Robin Trower.
My very first rock n roll show , 1976 i was in eighth grade.i was sold on rock ever since.he and Dewar bring Rock to a level that Jimi Hendrix started and i still get a true feeling of love and joy.which was a change from the riots in 69' to the vietnam war.please everyone please dont ever forget where our roots in this rock music came from."spellbound".god and i love you all.gad bless America all of us.paul j. W. 63'

  48. J.... M....

amazing guitar work.....Jimmy Dewar shinning BRIGHT with his vocals...

  49. R.... P....

Saw him several times. Spoke with him once.

  50. J.... A....

SIXTH album of Trower I hear this week, so yes, he was a Hendrix alumni centered on continuing his sound, style and concept (a trio) and that's not imitation. It's an HONOR! Just imagine the man still alive in 73, 74, 75...

  51. m.... c....

there is a line in the song "Can't Stand It" about MTV. How's that? This album is from 1973 long before MTV. Am I going crazy or what?

  52. i.... t....

Brothers, I painted trower on the side of my 67 chevy van, had a supertuner and mind blowers and a bed and chicks and rope swings at the lake and sweet gold weed and I thought it would never end, boy did I get it it wrong, but learned to play electric and was a diesel mech and here I am, in a world I never echspected, ok I cant spell but Im honest and love my people and the music that filled our dreams.

  53. r.... s....

NUCLEAR ENERGY NEEDS RESPNABILITITY ? I KNEW THAT DEEP ? I WON"T BE HERE BUT THE CHILDREN WILL?

  54. r.... s....

    PASS IT ON*

  55. S.... ....

I went to a Trower concert with my dad when I was maybe 9 or 10 years old there was a guy at a merch booth that gave me a free Trower pick. He asked me "hey kid you like this music"? I told him "idunno". He said "one day you'll understand and you'll love it". And here I am. Man I'm glad I'm not like the other kids.

  56. o.... ....

    Awesome stuff!!

  57. R.... M....

" Twice Removed " with original bassist & drummer had a subtle difference then James & Bill , sans the vocals.

  58. H.... C....

    Awe-inspiring.

  59. M.... B....

    Heavy, leaded, blooz rock.

  60. C.... F....

Had this album since it came out. Listen to it at least once a week. 45 years. Damn, I'm getting old but the music isn't.

  61. T.... M....

I remeber well when these records came out. Game changers. Robin really uses the spec´s of Stratocaster to the last extend. He is is a great guitarist.

  62. M.... ....

47 people mistakingly arrived here intending to listed to Justin's Beaver.

  64. C.... F....

Been listening to this on vinyl for 45 years since it came out. Still moves me. As a first "solo" album it's one of the very best. A power trio that can't be beat.  Eclipsed by Hendrix but deserving of the Rock & Roll hall of  Fame

  65. s.... p....

probably the most underrated guitar player ever

  66. s.... p....

I saw robin trower in 1987 was so glad I did

  67. C.... 7....

I was jamming to Robin Trower in the 8th grade Lord Baltimore Junior High School. I love the era of music that I'm from.

  78. I.... H....

I've always liked robin trower bridge of sigh album

  79. g.... ....

Always Hated our local rock stations here in the Norfolk area for NOT playing more of R.T.....It was maybe every other week, or more before they played any of his music. Thank You Mr Trower and James Dewar for some of the most awesome music ever!

    g.... ....

FM dropped the ball on Trower, sadly.

  80. P.... r....

This was the best Trower line up. I saw them at the Akron Civic in like 73 and that was the best guitar show ever. When he got the other drummer it just didn't have the same groove.

  81. R.... W....

Early seventies at the Alabama theater in Birmingham with Golden Ear-ring

Such taste Randall. Proud to say I was 17yrs when i coughed up up my 2 quid for this & still have it.

    a.... D....

Same. £2.17p. Stuck the price ticket inside where the vinyl goes.

  87. d.... ....

i remember when this first came out and everyone was calling him a "white Hendrix ripoff". He took the tone, phrasing and soloing to a whole different level.

    d.... ....

Yes, IMHO, less frenetic & more melodic.

  88. H.... T....

James Dewar was my vocal inspiration. Everyone kept trying to recruit me as a blues singer. My response was, fool, don't you know soul when you hear it? I love Robin but I skip the blues numbers.

    H.... T....

people often think blues & soul vocalising are naturally interchangeable. they have some common elements but are distinctly different & culturally parallel (rather than apart). JD was a no fuss soul singer with a beautiful voice. not black, not white. just soulful. very few have that soft, deft touch. simple & totally credible. Yo Jimbo...

  89. 2.... ....

Thanks for posting this awesome album!

  90. R.... o....

Great Blues and Rock Guitarist its a crime he is not in the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame and besides Underground Blues Fans No One Ever Mention's Robin Grower When It Comes To Blues Greats!

    S.... ....

57 model here and grew up on the classics of the modern age and beyond as promised.

    S.... ....

The late Reg Isidore (d.2009) plays drums here & on Bridge of Sighs...I believe Lordan came on board for ""For Earth Below".

    S.... ....

    Robin is still going strong!!!

  97. R.... B....

So good and so great. R.I.P. JAMES.

  98. K.... N....

Fantastic guitar, fantastic vocals, fantastic everything...:)

  99. B.... W....

Considering that this was not an overwhelming success, what if Trower had decided to scrap this style? If so, there would not have been Bridge of Sighs!
