Robin Trower - The Turning Lyrics
Far from this life of smoke and fear
I dreamed a path no one else could claim
Not one face ever stained with tears
Or blood that spilled in someone else's name
From the perfect wave
Only those who know the tides
Are not swept away
Who would not chose the turquoise sky
Over the streets of steel and concrete gray?
Colors that once could free the mind
Become so drab, all joy begins to drain away
Every hope overwhelmed
Washed away every stain
To show the world reborn
Time has come to lose the pasts
Ashes to the wind
When the first become the last
The turning shall begin

Robin Trower The Turning Comments
Incredible song sir Robin Trower ripping then the slow down melted into the final phase of a tale untold. Peace and love, God bless sir and please don't stop
Beautiful tune 😀
I love the turning at 3:03.
No one, no one... plays from their soul like Robin Trower..
Andy Latimer (Camel) does. Different styles but they play from the heart.
True master of the Strat
"Eargasm".....
In this album Robin rocks hard, sadly in later albums he went back to "slow dreamy blues mode", too slow for my tastes
the" Playful Heart" is an awesome CD!
amazing song, guitar solo, doesnt get any better than this track.....
3:03... Robin at his best!!!
dont forget his work with procul harum and the paramounts
There is none other ! Rip mr. Dewar
For far too long this guitar LEGEND was compared to Jimi Hendrix and he is sooooo much on a higher plain. If you must make reference to Jimi's music resembling Robin's; let's just say some of Trower's cuts are Jimi Hendrix on STEROIDS!
Robin is better than Jimi Hendrix. No, I don't go along with the crowds.
I never compared him; he is HIS OWN MAN.
Philip bauman They have a preference and enjoy the sound tonality (and fingerings/pickups/neck positions) of (the same type) BEAUTIFUL, SOULFUL chords.
Chili Peppers guy too, Hendrix influenced. He excitedly studied ALL Jimi's albums, a pile 4 or 5 inches thick.
We musicians are subconsciously influenced by other's works, too.
dig this.
Way out on a river someplace alone, I busted out a melody to very heartfelt words of appreciation for natures' beauty.
ok SUPER impressed with myself, until noticing,
The melody was the last thing I'd heard, from obscure last track of my Nirvana CD
TOTALLY UNintentional ! But there it was. With no one there to call me out. EXCEPT for my own self.
Been a Trower Head since his first lp.
I just have to telll Robin ( Hji, dear friend! ) what a great song this is to mellow to after a good dance to it!!!
And Davey p. Is another friend from a Gamma 1 show at Old Chicago with Ronnie Montrose.
Rock on, Gents & R.J.P. To a real cool dude, Ronnie.
Thanx, guys.
Brian.
Interesting composition.
Great song to dance up a good sweat ,
All the while enjoying Daveys
callibg the tune.
And dont be mistaken about Daveys vocaling.
I had the opportunity to see him @ a now extinct amusement park near Chi town. He was coming unto his own with another greatly under appreciated band, Gamma.
On Gamma II, when I first heard Voyager, I closed my eyes & heard Robin.
But, alac & alas, it was Ronnie & Davey!!
See how masters, a.k.a.
"great minds" rock alike?
I wonder if our friend, 6was9 could pass this along to both Robin & Davey?
As a favor to a long time fan....
Brian.
Thanks for sharing, I like it when someone says something insightful.
Trower's music never gets old.... The man is beyond Brilliant!
G-d bless RT
IMO this is the best studio Robin album of all.
such a shame on later albums he went back to "slow dreamy blues mode", in this one he channeled some major inspiration, also on "Seven Moons" with Jack Bruce
Who is the vocalist?
Davey Pattison
+41doc Sounds like he's trying to emulate Dewar. Not use to hearing Pattison vocalize like this.
Good gosh dang, this dude is amazing. Used to listen to him back in the 70's. Started working way to much and just star5ted buying his albums with out ever knowing what was on them up into the mid 80's. Well some decades later those vinyl discs are all but lost and gone. What a ,loss
+Gerald - Yeah, me too - I've been a Trower devotee since the 70's too; and lost all my albums too. But you know what? I'm gathering 'em again the past few years and have acquired 2 or 3 Trower classics - "In City Dreams" was my favorite from back then, and I found one in a bunch of albums that somebody threw away! Got an amp from Salvation Army, and I'm back in business ... couldn't believe the deal I got at Salvation Army - got an old Fischer amp for eighteen bucks and it's pristine; and the turntable from the flea market for ten bucks! Best $28 I ever spent!
Good to know your reestablishing your library. Gonna have to look in to Salvation Army and Good Will and the like. I had boxes and boxes of albums, 8 track and cassette tapes.
Spent a small fortune on my library, too much to re establish.
If you never heard Robin Trower, you've never heard the guitar bent. This guy has so much talent and soul. He makes the guitar sing. Anyone who calls themself a guitar player HAS to know Trower, listen to the soulful sounds come forth from his Fender. It is mind-blowing. I have listened to his music for 37 years. Timeless.
+6dugpar6 peace bro, and thanks!
@Mike Mascow You got THAT right, Mike - what a musician and composer Trower is; he's truly exceptional. His guitar is so, well; heavy is what I've always called it. I've been a Trower devotee since the 70's too - it was such a tragic loss when James Dewar died.
My guitar god...Trower...
@OfTheDifference Yes, it was a tragic death that of James Dewar for rock, one of the best voices in rock and the best that Trower had without underestimating the other voices. greetings OTD.
I agree. Robin trower is the must.
Robin Trower is one of those artists that is on a higher level with his writing and playing.
Stanley Anderson
Absolutely agree.. Every track brings with it the essence of the man himself, R.T is the very definition of soul, and of the guitar. The ultimate pairing of man and instrument, a diamond in a mountain of coal..

Trower moved me in the 70s and still moves me now...A True Great
Fantastic music, thanks for posting.
Was this recorded in mono? It only plays out of one speaker.. great song though
great song...
Woke up .... it was Blue Monday; and I gotta pull together my rent money with a quickness. As I'm making a sandwich, I click on YouTube and pull up this Listening to this turned my Blue Monday right around, and now I'm rarin' to go get after it! I will ever be grateful to the musicians of the world that share their music with us
Trower is a bad fucking guitar player james is a great singer . True music group not like todays bumble gum shit from pretty boys .
I think that you took too many bad hits when you played for the Broncos, even if you were a GREAT kicker and one of the highest scoring players of all time. It's cool though that you dig Trower Power
Hi Kauchi!
that outro is really good
05-23-2012; Traditionally historic jams from potentially the only guitarrist owning his own box-car full of Fender Strats' ,trust . Somenoe kindly let unkle Robin Know I'll be anxiously awaiting the empowerment of listening to his next anticipated studio-time initiative/deployment ,here on YouTube .This is exemplary of some of the craftiest guitar-work recorded ,further trust ! Love this song! Robin still has it after so many years. Perfect tone and phrasing. Beautiful emotion and cool vibe.
