Robin Trower - River Lyrics
River, keep on rising
Carry my soul to the sea
Troubled waters,take me with you
Follow in destiny
When the man can stumble and fall?
In the waters of confusion
Stumble and lose it all
Roll on... Keep on rolling
You don't even have to be aware that I'm there
Taking pride in the lessons I've learned
And joy from the river before me
River, keep on rising
Troubled waters,take me with you
Follow in destiny
Roll on... Keep on rolling
You don't have to be aware that I'm there
Taking pride in the lessons I've learned
And joy from the river before me
River, keep on rising
Carry my soul to the sea
Troubled waters, take me with you
Follow in destiny
I'll follow in destiny

Thanks🎶🎶🎶
dave patison on vocals
it is james dewar on vocals
@keith welsh Tell him Keith...……………..the one and only James Dewar-RIP
Dewar, Rodgers, Terry Reid - the great triumvirate of vocalists.
It's almost a Free or Bad Company song. Great song and Dewar's vocals sweet as molasses.
Awesome sshhiiizzzzollaa
Awesome sshhiiizzzzollaa
This song Benny Dancer and Islands were the highlights from this album (Back it up)
Robin Tower
I've always maintained that dewars vocals are the best in rock music. Faultless, perfect for trowers wailing guitar.
More of a Delta Blues sound from Trower and Dewar on this album.......Less Psychedelic guitar bending that Trower is a Master at.....They in my eyes , were one of the very best together......
dammit. cranking the snot out of this. again. and yeah..and crying again. this is such a great song
I'm with you brother. Some songs just make me boohoo like a baby.
why does this song make me cry? I don't care. reaching for volume
you don't have to be aware; that I'm there
James Mother F'er Dewar....God Damn a singer
Beautiful song. A friend taped a copy of this album for me when I was stationed in Kodiak, Alaska back in 1984. I played it until it just plain ol' wore out.
well you can come here and listen with us brother.
this song reminds me of a close friend who did not make it. I think of him almost every day. He is looking up or down at me and laughing his ass off at what a sap I am. so I play this in tribute. miss you brother.
why does this song make me cry like a little bitch? I love this so much
Some guitar players and vocalists just belong together. Trower Dewar.
Well said. this record I could not listen to for a long time. now I think im ok. well not really.... but it makes me feel good now. So I jam it
merci pour magic.. (robin trower.💚 )
Dewar's vocals are tremendous People.
Sounds like a Paul Rodgers song.Still awesome though.
wow it does kinda sound like Paul! nice shootin
rock on robin. rip jimmy
shared this tune with my crew as we worked the monongahela, allegheny, ohio and kanawha rivers back in the mid-90's on towboats....i created quite a few trower fans!
nice work
well done
trower and Dewar..pure Bliss!!
Is Trower intimating that his guitar is a whip?
Live wires I think you`ll find...
Best song on this album and ranks with the Trower " classics " . Saw Robin Trower this past Saturday night in St. Louis . He still kills live . Most under-rated guitarist of all time .
my favorite Trower LP....
Dewar & Trower - Simply brilliant...
Jetboy504 right, brilliant is the word. J D one of the best singer and R T one of the best guitar player. J D a irreparable lost rest in peace
River, keep on rising; carry my soul to the sea.
Troubled waters, take me with you; to a faraway destiny.
River, where is the justice; when a man can stumble and fall,
In the waters of confusion … stumble and lose it all..?
Roll on, keep on rolling. You don’t even have to be aware that I’m there.
Taken pride in the lessons I’ve learned, and joy from the river before me.
@dvd1955p This is one of my favorite of Robin's lyrics. The man has spirit and soul. I've always wished he would play this live...
thank you
James Dewar voice was mesmerizing with trowers licks
The best there ever was, or will be..
and Dave just driving
followin destiny...
nice shootin

first time i heard this record i totally freaked out. still holds true to this day...
sandy, toca, .here is a few albums ,twice removed from yesterday, for earth below, caravan to midnight, long misty days, victims or the fury, back it up, bridge of sighs. thanx for having good taste in music
I started listening to R.T. back in the late '80's,around '88-89,but i have noticed the lead singer has passed on or at the time had a stroke and when I listened to R.T. back then,I noticed also that there were no words or no vocals,is this why...and please name some cassettes or "albums that were out in those days..i can't remember which one I had but it was GREAT..me and my co-workers would swap out our cassettes...fun times!!
A vastly under-rated album.
This album was the last thing Dewar ever recorded. After "Back It Up" stiffed commercially (Trower also refused to tour for it) and Chrysalis dropped him, Trower went in a different direction in the mid 80's with Dave Bronze (bassist vocalist) and then Davey Pattison (vocals). Sadly, Dewar suffered a crippling stroke in late 1987 and was never able to perform after that. He was confined to a wheelchair and lived in a group home til he passed away in 2002.
Where did Dewar go after 1983?
James suffered from a condition known as CADASIL & passed away in 2002 from a stroke.
I rate this as his best album/cd next to or alongside The Playful Heart ,
and this song is epically beautiful .
ANOTHER TROWERJAM!
@SPARKY53100 I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU JAMES DEWAR WAS ONE OF THE BEST THEY DON'T COME ANY BETTER. GREAT SINGER AND BASS PLAYER.
Thanks. Was hoping someone would put this up.
Lesser known Trower album but still worth owning . I enjoy this one as much as the early classics . Jimmy Dewar's last work with Robin from 1983 . Great singer in the Pauil Rodgers mould . He should have been a star no question .
