Robert Cray - Night Patrol Lyrics
See him cuddled in the shadows
Sleepin' on his cardboard bed
Using rags for a pillow
Where he lays his unwashed head
His blanket's old newspaper
See so many like him out there
When you walk the night patrol
When you walk the night patrol
Oh, you wonder where he came from
Where he's gonna go
Was it a woman or a bottle?
That's brought him down so low
What's happened to his family?
Do they know he's out here in the cold?
Marching on the night patrol
Marching on the night patrol
Like that girl on the corner
She can't be more than seventeen
She's run away from somewhere
Taking nothing but her dreams
Now those dreams are lying shattered
As the street exacts its toll
And she's just another victim
Lost out on the night patrol
Oh, you could ask me why I'm out here
Where do I fit into the scene?
Now I'm drawing unemployment
Got replaced by a machine
And I'm tortured by my bad habits
Sometimes, I lose this struggle to control
And the street has its attractions
When you walk the night patrol
When you walk the night patrol

According to Clapton Robert Cray is one of the greatest "touch" guitarplayers. Don't know exactly what he means by that, but if EC says something like that it shure means something.
Not just the songs , one of the best voices also.
My favorite song
cray in actual fact rhymes with....tay
Kids these days are hung up on the lyrics........Cheech y Chong

Hey obnoxious old turd. Like I tell that stray dog in the back yard GIT. Don't ever dog real classic musician there clown. Robert Cray is the real deal!!!!
What a good song! He should write more of these. I think he's a good guitarist and makes good music and all, but he should write more like these. The one problem I had with Cray is too much jilted lover and 'my woman done me wrong' or cheating lyrics. Those type lyrics get old after awhile, but his music doesn't. His music is up there with the best blues.
Thats the blues baby! Love Robert Cray!
Terrific song. Hope it stays up for awhile...
Thanks for posting.
Listen to this on HD. It'll knock your socks off.
I can't believe this is the only video of this song out there.
What a shame. It's still a relevant current song.
I'm going to upload it too, so there'll be more than just 1 vid of it.
But I prolly won't do it from this, my ridiculous channel. Gotta do just a music upload channel, but I'm not too motivated when I see the numbskull dialogs and hateful comments on youtube, ya know? It's like casting your pearls mostly before swine. One doesn't put good music before tone-deaf low class jackasses.
@ObnoxiousOld Turd There used to be a live version (audio is included in the Live at the BBC album) which is even better than this, but it was removed.
There is a live version (1989) here : https://youtu.be/xLBoW6HRV9Q
