Thanks for posting this. I have a black and white polaroid photo of me with Marty in 1963 in Saginaw Michigan after a show my dad had done with him. My dad said he was the most honest guy he ever worked with in music.

He's so great on Hawaiian songs, as well as anything he sings.  I love hearing him sing "Drowsy Waters".

I still enjoy listening to Marty Robbins. I can spend hours here on You Tube listening and watching the videos. He was such a super talent.

My husband was a merchant seamen in and his shipped on the SSHawaiin Craftsmen, of the Matson Line in the 1950's. These songs take this 80 year old lady way back, happely to the old days.

Shirley Yamaguchi sang it very well too. Also, listen to her sing Tokyo Serenade.

Anything by Marty is class. Enough said.

Marty Robbins is the best non Hawaiian singer for Hawaiian songs.

How nice to see someone write such a testimonial to a fabulous singer/songwriter like Marty. A guy who could do almost anything (apart from act maybe!) and refrain from laughing while singing the saddest of ballads. Even though I have been a fan nearly 50 years now, I still marvel at how good he was. Someone recently posted a version of 'Begging To You' from a 70 's TV show (Hee Haw?) and it just oozed class, sincerity and a singer at the peak of his powers. Thanks for such an excellent comment

The time is ripe for a rediscovery of Marty Robbins. He had a multi-faceted musical persona and talent to burn. He had great interpretative skill as a vocalist and has been scandalously overlooked in recent years. Anyone who likes music must appreciate Marty Robbins. He combined a genuine multiplicity in many musical genres in one effortless style.

I'd forgotten that Andy Williams had done this Nancy. Bing Crosby did it too. Elvis did a nice version which was a home recording with the Memphis Mafia as well.
