Robbie Williams - Jesus In A Camper Van Lyrics

Ooh we've got a live one, featherweight icon
Heroes let 'im down so he sleeps with the
Light on
And there's nothin' left to do but kneel down
And pray
Sail away with Caesar if you're a non believer
Everybody get high if you're a
Diamond geezer
It's the devil that needs ya so go out and play

Blame yourself it's easier
There's no need to trouble her you trouble her

Jesus in a camper van he said sorry to
Leave you but I've done all I can
I suppose even the son of God
Gets it hard sometimes
Especially when he goes round
Saying I am the way

And now it's four in the mornin' yes yes y'all in
No one can shoot but everybody's scoring
Trust me it's boring get down and pray

They told you not to meddle with the bass and The treble
There's dust on your needle and you think that
You're a rebel

You're Evel Knievel so get down and pray
Blame yourself it's easier
There's no need to trouble her you trouble her

Jesus in a camper van he said sorry to
Leave you but I've done all I can
I suppose even the son of God
Gets it hard sometimes
Especially when he goes round
Saying I am the way

I am the way, I am the way, I am the way
I am, I am, I am, I am, I am, I am the way

Jesus in a camper van he said sorry to
Leave you but I've done all I can
I suppose even the son of God
Gets it hard sometimes

Jesus in a camper van he said sorry to
Leave you but I've done all I can
I suppose even the son of God
Gets it hard sometimes

Blame yourself it's easier
There's no need to trouble her
Blame yourself it's easier
There's no need to trouble her

Jesus in a camper van he says sorry to
Leave you but I've done all I can
I suppose even the son of God
Gets it hard sometimes
Jesus in a camper van he says sorry to
Leave you but I've done all I can
I suppose even the son of God
Gets it hard sometimes

The reason this song is not on the reissue version of I've Been Expecting You is because in 1998, Williams was sued by Ludlow Publishing over this song because it lifted lyrics from the Loudon Wainwright III song "I Am the Way", from his album Attempted Mustache.

The lyric to Wainwright's "I Am the Way" is as follows: "Every son of God has a little hard luck sometime, especially when he goes around saying he's the way." The lyric to "Jesus in a Camper Van" in question is: "Even the son of God gets it hard sometimes, especially when he goes around saying, I am the way."

Williams claimed that he had heard a young man say the line whilst in rehab, and only found that it was a line from Wainwright's song after he had already recorded it. Williams' agents called Wainwright to notify him about this, but Wainwright had little say in the matter; "I Am the Way" was a parody of the Woody Guthrie song "New York Town"; Ludlow Publishing owned the line's copyright. In 2002, Ludlow Publishing won the lawsuit, receiving 25% of the income that "Jesus in a Camper Van" garnered, and subsequently, the album was re-issued replacing "Jesus in a Camper Van" with "It's Only Us".

This also occurred on his compilation record The Ego has Landed.

I'm glad you were able to find it. If you want a physical copy of it, I'm sure it's for sale on ebay or some online site like that.

    C.... ....

It's on some of the earlier versions of the release (mostly in the UK). It's why I haven't gotten rid of my old copy yet. :)

    C.... ....

Callanish I had a copy of Ego has Landed on Cassette, that mysteriously had the song replaced with It's Only US for the CD version.... now I know why. Cheers!

    C.... ....

THANK YOU for this, I was looking for this song on spotify and was wondering if I'd gone insane and invented fake memories when it wasn't on the album. I used to play that album on repeat in the late nineties.

    C.... ....

    @anneli LOL you dick.

  14. 1.... ....

    Be-less you rob?

  15. M.... ....

    M.... ....

    M.... ....

    M.... ....

  16. J.... I....

why this song is not on spotify ?.. any ideas ?

    J.... I....

@Jorge Inostroza I read in Wikipedia this song is changed for another one in some editions of the album. Sorry for my english.

    J.... I....

+Jorge Inostroza It is replaced with "It´s only us"
+Callanish 8 wrote why it is like this: "The reason this song is not on the reissue version of I've Been Expecting You is because in 1998, Williams was sued by Ludlow Publishing over this song because it lifted lyrics from the Loudon Wainwright III song "I Am the Way", from his album Attempted Mustache.

  22. n.... ....

I dont speak your language but i think in the video you site that ive been expecting you was released in 2002, it was released in 1998, but the album was repackaged after a lawsuit, with jesus in a campervan removed and replaced with the song its only us.

Thumbs up if you got here cause of copyright law!

  31. T.... K....

I love this song. It's got to be so true. I'm sure Jesus is looking down on the planet and wondering how we could fuck a planet up and hasten our own demise. But he also knows that we have the capacity to learn, create and reach impossible heights. The question is, will we?

  32. T.... C....

    @comesoutinthewash
And that's exactly why I'm listening now.

  33. c.... ....

this song just came into my head out of nowhere, had to have a listen

    c.... ....

comesoutinthewash I don't even like this song, but every couple of months the chorus pops into my head and I have to listen to it to make it stop.

  34. b.... ....

Many people experiment with drugs&alcohol when they're young, but when you are struggling with attention deficit, (he was called "thick" as a child) depression, anxiety & difficulty sleeping you may self medicate when you want to, need to, have to be, comstantly interviewed & perform onstage for 1,000's of people. Most addicts have issues, hence addiction. He's not necessarily arrogant; it's an ACT - Bravado, Self Depricating Humour, the need to make people laugh. Don't be so harsh!

    b.... ....

@bonnb9 Beautifully said. x. I get abit overprotective of harsh words against Robbie as many just don't fully understand the man and all the underlying challenges he has faced - that soooo many people in this world have faced and continue to face. Compassion is free but seldom given xx

  35. S.... C....

    @pitfa1 so sorry =(

  36. S.... D....
