Robbie Robertson - I Hear You Paint Houses Lyrics
Shall we take a little spin?
To the dark side of town
You went up against the mob
And now the curtain's comin' down
They ordered me to make the hit
They want him buried in the ground
Where he never will be found
I hear you paint houses
You're a gun for hire
I hear you paint houses
Down to the wire
I hear you paint houses
Was all they had to say (Was all I had to say)
Some call it street justice (Street justice)
Hope my father up above
Will forgive me for my sins
He raised me up to know better
But now the walls are closin' in
I got caught up in this wicked world
But it is the life I chose
When you fall into the snake pit
Where the emperor has your clothes
I hear you paint houses
You're a gun for hire
I hear you paint houses
Right down to the wire
I hear you paint houses
Was all they had to say (Was all I had to say)
Some call it street justice (Street justice)
When they carry you away
I trusted him, he trusted me
One of us made a big mistake
When you cross the big boss
You ain't gonna catch a break, no
I got a bullet with your name on it
And I've got a job to do
The results ain't too pretty
Puttin' the cement in your shoes
I hear you paint houses
A gun for hire
I hear you paint houses (I hear you paint houses)
Right down to the wire (Right down to the wire)
I hear you paint houses (Houses)
Was all they had to say (Was all I had to say)
Some call it street justice (Call it street justice)
When they carry you away (When they carry you away)

Every time someone writes a polite but what is perceived as a negative comment, it gets deleted. Stop it Robbie.
This sounds like it wants to be The Sopranos opening song. Listen to it. Now, that song is original and was genius.
Would love to see a video of this in the making. Was it filmed while in studio?
Its a brilliant cd
Van & Robbie, sweet association.
He still has that 🔥 fire in him...

Great Album! Robbie is one of the great storytellers. Tapping Van the Man for Vocals adds to the depth of this tune. I wish Robbie would tour but he kept to his word that the final concert with the band was his last Waltz. Been listening to this album every day to and fro work. Rare quality this day. I hope people listen, appreciate and realize the rarity of true music. Soul, blues and heart.
THE IRISHMAN
Mr. Robertson is an iconic musician and songwriter but I think he should leave the singing to someone else. Van's vocals as always were great!
Wrong, Robbie's voice is amazing on this, could have done without Van the man!
@T MM ain't bad at all for a man being 76 :-)
Listen to this at least twice a day
Goddamn...when Van the Man chimes in...👌
Do no Robbie Robertson fans realize this was produced as the tie in song for the Irishman? Great song!
it is different in the film tho. it sounds like a different song
Does a bear shit in the woods? 😉
Love this!!! Sue Roberts
Two of my favorite artists. But please, Robbie, don't sing. It's really not a good idea. Still, I give the song an upvote, because---well, Van can make anything sound good.
Watch The Irishman, movie to understand what Robbie is singing about.
If you don't like his singing it's only because you don't understand the style.........you just don't get it so leave it be.
I love the melody, the lyrics are eye opening. It is on the top of my favorite new releases of 2019
Good work guys
I think this is great.
The whole album is great.
Must be the album of the year!
This song sucked me in and put me in a trance. I'm listening to the album and it all has this feeling of drawing me inwards.
What a combo! This is a great piece of art!
Van and Robbie....can it be sweeter?
only if we could add the late Richard Manuel
2000 of these views are mine!!!
Listening to RR new songs is like a train trip where every second is a new beautiful station
Six Nations Reserve probably owns a kind of eternal creativity fountain, where its legendary native Robbie Robertson has certainly dived and drunk several times. Born as a landmark of Rock & Roll, SINEMATIC album brings a whole new scenario of mystic and gorgeous sonority paths, with colourful timbres curves, impressive rhythm sessions ground, epical voices atmosphere and enigmatic melody flowers, that only THE BAND 's former guitarrist and songwriter can lead us through, driving his sonic caravan with a dream team onboard. It is worth any second of each eight long years waiting since his last album.
