Rivers, Johnny - For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her Lyrics

What a dream I had, pressed in organdy
Clothed in crinoline of smoky Burgundy
Softer than the rain.

I wandered empty streets, down past the shop displays
I heard cathedral bells tripping down the alley ways
As I walked on.

And when you ran to me, your cheeks flushed with the night
We walked on frosted fields of juniper and lamplight
I held your hand.

And when I awoke and felt you warm and near
I kissed your honey hair with my grateful tears
Oh I love you, girl
Oh I love you.

This album is an absolute Masterpiece. It was all I listened to, for the 1st 6 months, after I bought it. KUDOS to Marty Paich for his gorgeous arrangements / production of this album. -----------------WolfSky9, 73 y/o

Johnny Rivers is so amazing, love it

Comparisons are odious. This is beautiful. He really hit a peak in the last years of the 60's. When he strove to make something meaningful and singular, he was successful.

  4. L.... s....

Johnny Rivers, a voice like no-other. Yesterday, today, or EVER !

  5. L.... H....

This is good cover of Art Garfunkel's version. I like it but not as much as the original. This album is one of the very best of the 60s. I remember listening to in 67 when I was 18 and it still holds up as a great work. It is so underrated. Johnny belongs in the Rock n Roll hall of fame.

  8. L.... S....

Johnny Rivers, his Voice not only QUALITY , but most of all ; tear-jerking. REALITY !

  9. L.... S....

His songs, would make the hardest-heart, MELT.

  10. b.... ....

Not bad but let's face it Paul Simon wrote this as a showcase for Art's amazing, soaring vocals.

  11. S.... ....

not bad, but not a patch on the original

  12. D.... G....

You put 100 music lovers in a room and I say most say Art Garfunkel. That's how good he is.

  13. B.... J....

A beautiful dream, i like Rivers cover of this song better than Art Garfunkel's, maybe because i heard this one first.

    B.... J....

I like Rick Nelsons better on this song after listening to them back to back. But both are beautifully done.

“Trees are poems the earth writes upon the sky, We fell them down and turn them into paper,
That we may record our emptiness.”

I bought the album when I was the 8th grade.

  19. R.... R....

Echos, reverb and shimmering generalities, part of the San Francisco mood popular in '66 and '67

  20. B.... C....

He's no Art Garfunkel, but I quite like this.

  21. 1.... ....

Background vocals by the Fifth Demension . . . before they became famous.

Do you know he signed them on his newly purchased Sun? records, right on the main drag in Memphis. I believe they came out swinging with a top 10- Marilyn McCoo - On those vocal contests the females have no clue= they just ALL do that "warble" .Please sing it straight out!

    1.... ....

That Sun records/royalties probably did not help him in their corridors of Power= THe Rock Hall of fame "clues"

  22. 1.... ....

This entire album is one of my all time favorites . . . just beautiful . . . class.
