Rival Sons - Manifest Destiny, Part 1 Lyrics

Out on the hunt for Tatanka
The buffalo are only miles away
You see the tracks from the army's wagons
Headed to your camp from yesterday

You know we're dealing with godless men
You know we're dealing with godless men

It killed your horse but you made it home
To burning bodies around that lay
Chanumpa broke and you're alone
Help me, Aho Mitake Oyasin

You know we're dealing with godless men
You know we're dealing with godless men

Rival Sons Manifest Destiny, Part 1 Comments
  1. N.... F....

    Makes me feel so high

  2. G.... K....

Everybody saying this sounds like "No Quarter", it's closer to "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" than anything.

  3. P.... G....

Lead Guitar reminds me of Michael Schenker in his UFO days

  4. F.... P....

Yet another great song by them. Talent not heard in years.

  5. A.... J....

A four minute guitar solo. That's right, four minutes.

  6. S.... N....

I love this song so much . Can someone please tell me what the lyrics mean ? Thanks ! :)

    S.... N....

This song (and "Manifest Destiny Pt. 2") are sung from the viewpoint of an American Indian (a Plains tribe, but not sure which one) in the late 1800's. In this part 1, the main character is out on a buffalo hunt when he sees signs of a U.S. Cavalry unit having been to his camp, and killing the women and children there. In Part 2 (which follows immediately after on the album), he and his tribesmen and getting ready for a dawn raid on the US Cavalry unit. The term "Manifest Destiny" is defined as " the 19th-century doctrine or belief that the expansion of the US throughout the American continent was both justified and inevitable."

  7. M.... ....

  10. M.... B....

    Thanks!

  11. A.... M....

    I guess it's a little late to pre-order...

  12. P.... v....

this song takes me frustrations away

  13. s.... ....

    Play it Scott 😎

  14. s.... ....

God damn these guys can jam!

  15. J.... A....

Just f#@*☆ing floors me every time...

  16. T.... ....

It sounds like Black Sabbath and Dead Meadow with a totally distinct lead vocal. Shades of Robin Trower in there......

  17. B.... A....

Best band out there——only discovered them 2 months ago while listening to some songs by The Cult, no clue how I never really heard of them before——haven’t listened to any other groups in the past 2 months !!!

  18. S.... V....

J'adore .Un retour dans les années 70.

  19. E.... H....

Ainda bem que na minha procura por bandas de Rock de qualidade me trouxe aqui... Curti demais Rival Sons 😊😊😀

  20. T.... S....

This is the perfect combination of Led Zepplin and Black Sabbath.

  21. O.... O....

    This is pure bliss :D

  22. H.... ....

for a moment i felt that i'm listening to pink floyd.

  23. M.... ....

BEST SONG OF THE DECADE !          SUPERB GUITAR, KILLER VOCALS, OUTSTANDING BASS ,WONDERFUL DRUMS               IT DOES NOT GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS !  10 ATTABOYS

  24. p.... p....

this is immense.....if this band went back to the early 70's in a time machine, they would be hailed as the greatest rock band Ever!..... let's hope these guys stick around a while yet, please.

  25. X.... O....

    These boys get it done

  26. V.... C....

Excellent! Try Child, another good band.

    V.... C....

Is it "Try Child" or "Child"....?

  27. R.... J....

Awesome song! It has that early to mid 70's sound. Lead solo sounds like Hendrix, Robin Trower Frank Marino! Great sound with a lot of feel! Killer shit!!

  28. S.... B....

These guys are the best thing to come out in Rock, no scratch that, MUSIC in general since the the New Millennium IMHO. Scott's tone is unique and not the standard low pitched crap that EVERY other rock band since the 90's uses. I hear a lot of the masters of rock in this band. I can hear the Zep, Deep Purple, Stones, Clapton, etc.....all rolled into one refreshingly great sound. I cannot get enough of the drummer either very John Bonham in his ways and similar to Keith Moon as well. I love the energy of the entire band. Jay is killing it as a lead singer. Blues based Rock is where its at. I'm a fan, have all your albums now. Keep it up! God Bless!

    S.... B....

Hearing 'Stranglehold' all over this solo, but then again, it's also it's own thing. Yeah - they got it going on. Completely agree.

  29. s.... c....

    Ghè sbocio que canson fioi.

  30. .... ....

    ШЕДЕВР ! ! !

  31. S.... P....

Easily the best thing ive heard from these guys

  32. C.... S....

    Absolutely mind fucking blowing.

  33. T.... K....

damn only 98k of ppl appreciated this beauty. What a shame!

  34. P.... G....

Je suis un vieux rocker qui vit dans le passé côté musique. Mais cette chanson me jette en bas de ma chaise. Wow. L'ambiance est juste parfaite. Rare qu'aujourd'hui le talent musical rencontre le talent de l'écriture.

  35. C.... R....

    BOOOOM DEMAIS \M/

  36. P.... H....

    Well Done Bravo!

  37. R.... D....

    So awesome.

  38. J.... P....

Guitar Pro Tabs.. til  " Nava" ... ??

  39. A.... H....

    One of their best!

  40. C.... S....

Great song.  Heavily influenced by Zeppelin's "No Quarter" for main riffage. Robin Trower's "Too Rolling Stoned" for solo.   Robin Trower's "Bridge of Sighs" for guitar tone.  Zeppelin's "Levee Breaks" for overall feel.

    C.... S....

@Vlad Piranha its all been done. Hard to write new shit in rock

    C.... S....

Doesnt sound like no quarter lol

    C.... S....

No it isnt. Stop comparing music.

    C.... S....

+Captain Sunday  Totally agree, but I would add the Nugent's "Strangehold"

    C.... S....

Listen to No Quarter from live Song Remains the Same. Very similar rhythm and feel. Nothing wrong with that, just saying. But the main influence is with the solo. See Robin Trower's "Bridge of Sighs". I think it's awesome who they borrow from. That's just great music from the past continuing to live on through the young guys.

  41. C.... H....

    just love it!

  42. M.... M....

Gran tema, m'encanta. Sou molt, molt grans, Rival Sons.

  43. D.... G....

  46. A.... Y....

    A.... Y....

    yes, i hope they continue!

  47. M.... C....

Just saw these cats in Minneapolis. Same venue. It was awesome. They are definitely a throwback to the late 60's and 70', I get a heavier Bad Company feel from these guys.

  48. P.... G....

I love their sound! I already saw them twice live and will see them soon for the third time

  49. M.... ....

    I hear some Robin Trower

  50. R.... H....

    Clin d'oeil a Hendrix! ;-)

  51. a.... s....

fuuuuuck !!! soo deep. good track dude!

  52. E.... D....

    J.... J....

This is amazing, very true. The first Wolfmother album was very 70s and amazing too though :) watch?v=MAPeE7X_2IE

  55. m.... ....

    On fire!

  56. D.... l....

    I absolutely love this band!

  57. c.... m....

Oh my god! I love this band!

  58. d.... ....

I can see no quarter, but with the brilliant solo of Mr Ray Vaughn

  59. E.... B....

KICKS ASSS MEGA BAND 5 STARS-from ElBrando in Germany

  60. M.... ....

Oh to hear a nice long guitar solo after all these years. Now where did I put my bong ?

  61. M.... ....

    Just fucking amazing..

  62. F.... B....

to me the sound has a "machine gun" (hendrix) vibe...

  63. M.... M....

When I hear this song I feel like I am at the Gates of Heaven.

  64. J.... B....

It's like No Quarter meets Bridge of Sighs.

  65. A.... B....

But this one made it to level above. Never thought I'd say that about a Zeppelin song, but that's how awesome this is.

  66. M.... M....

    Thanks.

  67. J.... O....

    and maybe a univibe

  68. J.... O....

watch his rig rundown. sounds like a fuzz pedal with the neck pickup on his firebird

  69. T.... ....

    holy shit.

  70. M.... M....

Does anyone know what tone for the solo is used by Scott Holiday?

  71. s.... ....

"You know we're dealing with godless men"

    Epic song!

  72. P.... T....

I was gonna comment and say the same thing

  73. K.... ....

    reminds me of No Quarter

  74. s.... ....

    VERY VERY much so!

  75. P.... H....

    Amazingly Well Done, Bravo!!

  76. j.... e....

    these lyrics are fucking awesome.

  77. J.... H....

    Naughty is as naughty does

  78. D.... H....

    Tatanka.

  79. D.... R....

This is a great song! That guitar is simply magical! The new Led Zep

  80. a.... y....

    thats naughty forrest!

  81. J.... H....

I'll give you a hint, it rhymes with red hep a chin.

  82. m.... ....

They sound like Rival Sons since they have created a mixture of so many influences that they have been able to create a sound of their own.

  83. a.... y....

yeah i was trying to think of who they sound like and i cant.... there kind of doors, black keys, deep purple?,

  84. m.... ....

But this is not retro..........this is simply...Rock.
This is the real thing,it's not a fashionable sound...this is blues which is about 80 years old, there will be blues even in 2650 like there will be classical or jazz or funk.
    Real Music never die

  85. F.... J....

agree with you Margix (mostly). If you listen to rock for a long time you'll often see a few bands defining a niche and then others are just sound a likes and fade away after the sound gets old. You may remember piano rock from a few years ago with no guitars. remains to see if RS survives retro 70's

  86. L.... D....

Where hard rock was always meant to evolve...

  87. D.... ....

I can totally hear this in some epic kick ass movie soundtrack.

  88. M.... ....

Putting up the full album, what a nice record company :)

  89. S.... C....

wish i could have found out about them when my dad was still here. he would have loved them. :C

  90. m.... ....

Forget the shittie primitive dumb array of numetal-death metal-trash metal-emo-punk and all the temporay fashions of the last tragic 20 years.
THIS IS THE REAL THING,REAL ROCK MUSIC!
High pitched melodic vocals ,soulful guitar and solid rhytmic drums and bass!
It would be great to add keyboards too to make the sound even more various and interesting!

  91. J.... R....

think i spelled that wrong anyway love this band

  92. J.... R....

a breath of fresh air real rock an roll ressurrected

  93. J.... ....

Love the sound of cranked orange amps so much texture like Sabbath

  94. J.... ....

Wow there are kids that really get it!!!

  95. c.... ....

My god this is bloody amazing. I'm speechless. How the hell have I only just found this band ;o

  96. T.... ....

    sounds great, Very Zep!
