Ringo Starr - Weight Of The World Lyrics

Maybe your daddy never held you like you should,
Maybe your mama just held on the best she could.
Ev'ry soul has a secret,
Give it away or keep it,
But yesterday's gone so tell me why.

You carry the weight, the weight of the world,
It's breakin' you down on your back like a boulder.
Before it's too late, get rid of it, girl,
Get it off of your shoulder.
I know you've been used,
But you gotta lose the weight of the world.

Maybe i haven't always been there just for you,
Maybe i try but then i got my own life too.
Ev'ry heart has a hunger,
I'm not getting any younger,
I got all the crosses i can bear.

Don't gimme the weight, the weight of the world,
It's breakin' me down on my back like a boulder.
Before it's too late, get rid of it, girl,
Get it off of my shoulder.
You know i've been used,
And i gotta lose the weight of the world.

It all comes down to who you crucify.
You either kiss the future or the past goodbye,
We could fly so high.

But we carry the weight, the weight of the world,
It's breakin' us down on our backs like a boulder.
Before it's too late, get rid of it, girl,
Get it off of our shoulders.
We've all been used,
And we gotta lose the weight of the world.

It's takin' us down and the night's growin' colder,
Just blame it on fate, that was yesterday, girl.
And we're just growin' older.
We've all been used,
Now it's time to lose the weight of the world,
The weight of the world,
The weight of the world.

  8. J.... C....

Very good! It even gives the impression of listening to George Harrison's voice and guitar in this song.

  15. c.... m....

Pefect song for Ringo. Style Beatle at the beguining just to the end with a riff guitar (12 strins), like in sixties !. Great theme.

  16. A.... C....

I cannot add enough ❤'s and 👍's onto this. This man (sadly amongst many other really fucking good artists who in their solo years got overshadowed by their previous bands) it's awesome. Stellar drummer, songwriter, & just general all round good guy & legend. AWESOME!

    A.... C....

F'ckin dead right mate! Hv a look at jeff lynne producing free as a bird. See how passionate ringo was! "I'm the fookin click!"

  17. A.... W....

Hopefully the "Weight of World" has been lifted a little by becoming "Sir Richard Starkey"! Congratulations Ringo!

  18. K.... U....

Essa música é perfeita. A melodia, o intrumental a segunda voz. Escuto com os fones d ouvido e fico curtindo cada detalhe. Em especial a segunda voz e o baixo.

  19. w.... h....

This is the most beatle like tune of all. Has the 12 string rickenbacker a hint to g & p harmonies and the killer chord at the end. Wonderwall...

    w.... h....

More like a Byrds/Beatles like tune to my ears.

  20. J.... B....

The last great Ringo Starr song :(

    J.... B....

John Boutet you give up too easy

    J.... B....

sounds like it should have been on HELP! OR RUBBER SOUL

  21. L.... D....

Ringo, the Beatles in general spoke plainly and clearly about life events in a way that made a universal statement about our position in life. They poked fun at the things we endure every day and yes, it was quite biting and sarcastic. But they spo0ke universal truths about our lives that hold up today. Long live our Fab Four

  22. r.... ....

Buena canción, con tremendo sello Beatle

  23. d.... ....

    My fave Ringo song.

  24. M.... ....

    M.... ....

Wow! I still have it!! ahahah

  25. A.... L....

Yo soy un gran fan de los Beatles y admito que apenas escuche esta cancion en una radio de Retro Hits... y luego identifique la voz de Ringo y el estilo Beatle de la guitarra... una joya desconocida por muchos, gran cancion.

  26. L.... A....

A brilliant song by a man who finally gets his due and is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And is without question the greatest drummer in rock and roll. Fab Fab Fab Fab!!!!

  27. M.... A....

    Amazing song!!!

  28. C.... C....

    Great song... love Ringo!!!

  29. M.... D....

If it wasnt for the guys from Jellyfish, Ringo wouldnt have a good song to release, since they wrote this for him... Andy Sturmer from Jellyfish is a far better drummer also

    M.... D....

No members of Jellyfish were involved in the writing of this song. Simply reading the album liner notes will tell you this. It was written by America songwriter and recording artist Dillon O'Brian, credited as Brian O'Doherty, with writer Frank Velez. In fact, Sturmer and Roger Manning only provided backing vocals on this and 2 other songs, and acoustic guitar on another.

Also, the fact that Ringo's drumming has either directly or indirectly influenced every Rock, Pop and possibly even Country drummers style since 1964, including Andy Sturmer's, effectively negates your premise. Great as Andy Sturmer is..Ringo is the true original.

    M.... D....

+grievousangel09 They did however, write the song "I Don't Believe You". I swear, as great as Jellyfish was, their history is surprisingly convoluted for a band that only had two albums.

    M.... D....

    Someday you'll learn!!!

  30. l.... ....

I remember Ringo back in the day explaining how he felt stories like Gaza, Isis etc simply added to the burden of life that he couldn't do anything about.

  31. H.... ....

Cancion guapisima con autentica esencia Beatlelera.

  32. D.... C....

    Amazing Ringo!

  33. G.... H....

Love this song.... I bought this back in the 90's and still sounds super good.... Beatles forever!!!

  34. N.... D....

    Love this song! Always did!

  35. J.... C....

Ringo says it all, doesn't he?

  36. G.... C....

Yes, if this had been released early 1970s this would have been a big hit. Great stuff

  37. G.... P....

Ringo was born Richard Starkey on 7 July 1940, at 9 Madryn Street in the Dingle area of Liverpool. It was while playing in these Liverpool bands that he gained the nickname Ringo Starr - the first part due to the rings he wore, and the second because his solos - which Ringo performed reluctantly - could be billed as 'Starr Time'.

  38. I.... O....

Pero llevamos el peso, es el peso del mundo, rompiendo abajo sobre nosotros en la espalda como una roca.

  39. L.... F....

Haunting song from Ringo, but even he can't run away.

  40. m.... ....

    Great song!!

  41. m.... ....

Remember seeing the video for this featuring Ringo and a psychedelic umbrella.

  42. A.... M....

    I Love that Song.

  43. I.... ....

Can't wait to see Ringo in Melbourne

  44. A.... O....

    Beautiful song!!!!!

  45. T.... ....

    agreed lyons--------well said

  46. c.... ....

This is for sure...one of my Favorite Ringo tunes of all !! And it has a lot of wisdom and basic truth to it !!!

  47. l.... ....

I'm not really surprised by your story. When Time Takes Time was released in 1992, it went unnoticed in spite of its highly melodic contents. However, it deserves to be heard again and it's definitive proof that each Beatle recorded successful solo albums.

  48. L.... A....

Bien por Ringo, bien por años y siglos¡¡¡¡¡

  49. B.... V....

The first (and only) time I heard this on the radio was aboard ship as the USS Tarawa was nearing Hawaii in mid-1992. The second time I heard it was tonight (9/15/11). It's one of those rare songs that I could remember how most of it went after only hearing it once. Had it been released in '75 it would have gotten the recognition it deserves.

  50. B.... V....

    @livearoundlava Let's keep it that way =)

  51. F.... G....

    Ringo at his best. Classic!

  52. L.... F....

@rgaleny Judgemental..not at all. I've always liked some how Ringo's couzy style. And never really couldn't understand why some dislike his drumming and singing. He's not really any virtualist, as I can understand, but he has his own style.
And btw; as I remember I was a bit drunk myself, when I wrote the other comment some weekend, after rough working period. Lol. Greetings frm Finland to the States!

  53. N.... ....

Ringo yay! Nice guy, good heart, The Beatles are incredible and full of love :)

  54. R.... G....

@LukasFin Don't be too Judgmental or hard on Ringo. He was a rock star in the age of Beer, speed, pot, acid, downers, heroin, coke, crack, meth, extascy, and Reaganomics. He watched countless people crash and burn. And he still manages to make more sense when he talks than KIETH Richards, Ozzy Ozborne, or Newt Gingrich. It's not the weight you bear, but how you bear the weight. He's still my favorite Beatle. Being an entertainer is one thing in life, Living life is another. So, SHANTI.

  55. 7.... ....

RINGO IS SOOO AMAZING AND THIS SONG SPEAKS TO EVERYONE IN ANY SITUATION
