Ride - Polar Bear Lyrics
She knew she was able to fly because when she came down
She had dust on her hands from the sky, she said I touched a cloud
She felt so high, the dust made her cry
She knew she could fly like a bird but when she said
"Please raise the roof higher" nobody heard they never noticed a word
Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah... Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah...
Why should it feel like a crime? If I want to be
With you all the time, why is it measured in hours?
You should make your own time, you're welcome in mine
She knew she was able to fly because when she came down
She had dust from her hands on the sky, she said I touched a cloud
Her fingers will learn, the lightbulbs burn

Ride Polar Bear Comments
First verse: "She had dust on her hands from the sky"
Second verse: "She had dust from her hands on the sky"
Did he make a mistake on the second line? If not, it reads/sounds kinda awkward to me.
Jessica sent me here.
Any variation of this album cover with text on it is a travesty. The whole point of the cover is that the wave is everything and nothing/all that matters/beyond words/etc.
"Weather Diaries" is so bad. There is one good song. I have a theory that REM's power existed in Bill Berry's giant eyebrow. When he left things started to go sour (though UP is a good album in my opinion). I think you know where I am going with this. "Wheather Diaries" or whatever it is called is for shit because all of the good songs existed in Mark's Fringe.
Feels like "Take a Picture" by Filter is a bit of a rip off of this song
This incredible song deserves to be at least 10+ minutes longer
breathtaking melody. 1991 like yesterday
I like the message behind this song. Polar Bears have a strong connotation with the Arctic and therefore, it makes the listener think about the ozone layer. It's good to see bands like Ride creating awareness of global warming.
No it’s based on a book
Que exelente banda!!
How time flies! Saw them around 91/92 at Leeds Uni, a cracking band back in the day. Good to hear they are still at it.
was that with verve as support band? great gig
This is music. Pure harmony, pure emotion that melts you and gives you goosebumps all over. Thank you for making this masterpiece and for being important part of my teenage years. And still now.
I love all the vocal harmonies on this album
Orospu çocuğu Arda...
Unplayed at tonight's gig supporting Mogwai at the Hydro (Dec 2017) - but remembered as gig opener at the QM Glasgow (Nov 1990 ?) Great song - a band born to play live.
re-release this song please. it is amazing!💕
Such amazing drumming. My favourite three drummers from the past 25+ years are Reni (who doesn't love him?), Jimmy Chamberlain and Mr Colbert here. Reason I love Laurance Colbert so much is that he manages to combine the sweet fluidity of Reni with the 'all round the kit' jazziness and power of Jimmy Chamberlain. He is a master musician.
Liam Evans & like Reni he’s self taught , amazing gift ! Agreed Re top 3
They were stunning. I adored their first two albums so so much. Creation was my label of choice from 1990 to 1995. Ride. MBV. Boo Radleys. JAMC ( a bit earlier). Oasis. Such a truly special era and label for us discerning indie pop kids. But fuck me, Ride, when on form, beat them all with ease.
Now sitting in a business lounge in Frankfurt airport with my headphones on, surrounded by suits ( i have jeans and docs, still) and being sweetly transported to a different place. Thanks lads.
una de las mejores canciones de nowhere
The beginning melody is similar to Take a Picture by Filter. Ride influenced so many but get such little credit.
Ride and Swervedriver did/do the coolest things with guitars. Caught Swervedriver in 2015, hopefully I'll be able to catch Ride someday. Two seriously overlooked bands.
She knew she was able to fly because when she came down
She had dust on her hands from the sky, she said I touched a cloud
She felt so high, the dust made her cry
She knew she could fly like a bird

The light bulbs burn,
her fingers will learn
Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah... Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah...

So fucking good!!!!
The best indie band to come out of oxford in the early 90's who's name begins with the letter 'R'.
chetkayeable hehe nice try, i love both equally . rideohead
Floating Tremolo
fuckin noice mate
Kevin Shields would be pleased
What do you think the song means?
I believe Mark once said it was inspired by "Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenter's" but I don't really see the relation in the narrative.
drugs obviously
It's definitely about drug addiction (cocaine specifically)
I'm 21. I'm so glad to see Ride are getting the respect they always deserved right now in 2015. Sell out gigs everywhere, lots of people my age from the new generation turning up at gigs :)
im 44 and can tell you they had a huge amount of respect and love right from their beginning in the UK.
You should make your own time, you're welcome in mine.
Humberto Pinheiro I’m not a tattoo fan but that would look excellent , ride had so many great couplets
buen grupo
I appreciate the fact that Ride didn't do videos but this song so deserved some visual accompaniment :o
they made videos for the entire "Today Forever" EP
I see a choir or the band playing in a open cathedral while a heart pulsates (a grainy or 8 mm feel to the video).
yes yes
