My favorite Ricky Van Shelton tune with his God given unique voice which is the best version of this song written by Roger Miller. The lyrics are so very true and Ricky made those words his own. What a great entertainer! Now Bettye has the right to finally have Rickey at home and they are in my prayers everyday. God Bless them both!! I haven't heard this song in 26  years. Up until last week when I heard part of this song on a tv show or movie that was on tv. But when I heard this after all these years, the memories hit me like a ton of bricks. I remember hearing this as a kid when my dad would play this in the tape player on his boat when we would fish on Lake Superior. He always played those country songs. I hated going fishing back then because it would be on Fridays during the summer and we would be out on the lake all afternoon into the evening. And as a kid, I loved Friday nights because all the best shows were on.....the TGIF lineup and I missed most of it because we wouldn't get back until 8:30. But now, hearing this song as a 37 year old, the memories make me smile.  Thank you for posting this on Youtube.

I absolutely adore this song, and the main verse fits me perfectly. I sure miss hearing Ricky Van Shelton, but I know why he quit at the peak of his career. It is too bad that life isn't always fair, but I've had way more than my share of similar problems too. I hope Ricky is doing all right in retirement and I hope the Creator of All Things gives him & his wife great happiness forever. Thanks for posting this gorgeous video.

Rickey Van Shelton, lived next door to me when I was a kid around the age of seven years old, in Altavista VA. I use to hung out with him on his porch and he would play his guitar and song his songs. He would tell me that he was going to be a big Star one day and it happen.

Ricky Van hit #1 in Billboard, 7-30-88. Roger Miller, who wrote it, died of lung cancer. Was a heavy smoker. Too bad, right, gang? God bless ya, brother Ricky!
