Ricky Skaggs - Walk Softly On This Heart Of Mine Lyrics

You say you're sorry once again dear
You want me to take you back once more
You say you need a helping hand dear
But that's what you told me once before.

Walk softly on this heart of mine love
Don't treat it mean and so unkind
Let it rest in peace and quiet love
Walk softly on this heart of mine.

I know you soon will find a new love
I feel your heart is turned to stone
But please let me down real easy
For loneliness moves in as you move on...

Ricky Skaggs Walk Softly On This Heart Of Mine Comments
  1. R.... W....

I only came for the music any way.

  2. T.... F....

Kentucky Head hunters did it better.

  3. B.... B....

There's no better definition of "Shut Up And Sing". Thanks to Natalie's big libtard mouth, the Chicks managed to shoot themselves in the foot and ruin their career. It's a shame - they were a talented band.

  4. R.... M....

The Dixie Chicks music makes me think of of my children especially in a melancholy way

  5. D.... T....

THE DIXIE CHICKS WERE RIGHT !!! HAVE THE GUTS TO ADMIT IT!!! btw great rendition wow!!!

  6. K.... C....

    this is a beautiful song

  7. G.... M....

AMAZING cover by some Amazing Gals!!!!!

  8. M.... ....

Its not a "Dixie Chicks song" actually it was written by Bill Monroe in 1970.

    M.... ....

+Mandolin1944 I think the poster covered that with "version of this song" ..and r Skaggs played with Bill Monroe. They do it a fine justice, me thinks.

    M.... ....

+Laura Hawk As you wish but I don't think Ricky was every a Bluegrass Boy -- in the band at least.

    M.... ....

Let's not forget Jake Landers who I think wrote it and shared it with Monroe - could be wrong ..

    M.... ....

@kohaylan Correct!!! Jake wrote it for Bill. :)

  9. K.... S....

God I love these chicks! They're one of the greatest country musicians that ever lived! Right up there with George Jones, Hank Williams, and all the other greats in my opinion.

    K.... S....

@***** Did you even read what I said to you?

    K.... S....

@***** I did not say that to you, but rather to @Kyle S. who was bullying you just for your information. I told him not to be a bully and he told me to bite him, so that comment was referring to him. I was sticking up for you to a point. My comment to you was a very long comment referring to George Jones. If you want me to repeat it I will "George Jones was one of the best singers who ever lived. He may have been that way a long time ago, over 30 years ago, but that was when he was drinking. He quit drinking over 30 years ago and only went back once in 1998, but quit again for the rest of his life. He was one of the nicest guys ever when he wasn't drinking. He had a saying 'Kill people with kindness'. In other words, if people treat you badly, still treat them nice and kind. You need to remember the words of our savior when he said 'Judge not lest ye be judged". Please do not judge me like that, or talk to me like that again, because I was diagnosed with autism when I was 3 and then again at 16 and just recently was diagnosed with PTSD and due to those reasons, I am highly extremely sensitive. Thank you. Oh and by the way, I forgive you. I too have been married for 5 years, to my 6th grade sweetheart. Sorry for any confusion.

    K.... S....

    ooh hissy fit pmsl

    K.... S....

@paul tinker Who are you saying that to and about?

    K.... S....

While everyone is entitled to their own opinion George Jones was one of if not the greatest country singer of all time

  10. S.... O....

Heard it first on the Bill Monroe tribute album 'Big Mon'.  So good!

  11. n.... ....

    With Ricky Scaggs

  12. M.... T....

The Chicks should have listened to more Johnny Cash, and "The one on the Right is on the left." They should have taken the advice of the song. They wouldn't be where they are. It is a shame too, because they are exceptional musicians.

    M.... T....

@Marvin Thayer Sad fact indeed, especially when you consider that most celebrities default to the "i'm not getting involved" line. It's true that public personalities pay for taking the right public stand. What makes some of them great is NOT caring what price they pay. Ali comes to mind right away.

    M.... T....

Celebrities have to look at their celebrity as a job. As a way to support oneself and their family. Look at Elvis, he started dirt poor, and got famous and made enough money to support 3 or 4 generations of his family. He paid a terrible price for it. When I am at work I don't talk politics, or religion. I respect others in their beliefs, I do on the other hand give to teachers to help out, I give them the ax break, I volunteer at the food bank, I give to charities. I do this anonymously, because I try to help and be part of the solution, and I don't need a pat on the back. I think that Celebrities should be like that. Support a cause, and be passionate about it, but do it in private.

    M.... T....

Yeah, but it works both ways. Even people like me that agree with their politics don't want to hear it all the time. Their music gives us a chance to escape the world's problems for a little while. I sometimes wish they wouldn't bring it with them.

    M.... T....

NO one wants to hear their politics. No one cares. As talented as Natalie is as a musician, she has no business sense. Not one of them were millionaires. She didn't need to do what she did. She opened her mouth and got what she got. She would have been better off keeping her opinions to herself. I was not a fan particularly, but their drive and their talent was evident. I feel bad for the other two, who had to suffer the consequences.

    M.... T....

I don't pay to hear their convictions, I pay to hear them sing and play. I careless what their politics are, because I think for myself. The are entertainers, with an opinion, I care only for half of that.

  13. S.... F....

Have always loved the Kentucky Headhunters version listen to it on repeat sometimes for hours when writing. This is a great version of the song and now added to my song list. Thanks so much!

  14. N.... B....

    I think is James Taylor

  15. s.... h....

my apologies, my son will be so surprised when I ask him about this obscene comment.

  16. j.... l....

Wow ......... said so intelligently . Do you kiss your mom with that mouth. Its still a free country last time I checked my friend . Sorry you didn't like my comment . Rock on!

  17. S.... H....

    fuck off

  18. S.... H....

    what the fuck

  19. 1.... ....

This song was on the album Big Mon, which was a dedication to Bill Monroe. Its a great song!

  20. j.... l....

Oh I understand those monsters(radical islam) came to the United as well as over seas and cowardly killed many Americans. Although war is ugly and never goes as planned .We are better suited to fight them in the future. The monsters understand there are repercussions to their actions. Doing nothing never works.I didn't care for what was said on foreign soil but respect the freedom to do so. Obviously many Americans do understand. You peacenix are all the same until the monster comes to your home

  21. t.... ....

I agree with the sixth President of the United States John Quincy Adams "But she [the United States of America] goes not abroad, in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She is the champion and vindicator only of her own" I think the Dixie Chicks understand how unAmerican the Bush doctrine was. Too bad most Americans don't even know what the Bush doctrine is.

  22. j.... l....

I hate chicks politics ..............but they sure can sing.

  23. L.... ....

They used to play this version on the radio all the time when it was first out. It's a good version.

  24. R.... S....

Remember this from when Dixie Chicks and Ricky Skaggs were on tour together.

  25. T.... ....

Awesome!!! thanks for posting....can't believe I never heard this version before....:-)

  26. l.... ....

Nice, I'd only heard it with Kentucky Headhunters before, this was quite different. Thanks!

  27. U.... ....

It's from the Album BIG MON, a tribute to Bill Monroe produced by Rick Skaggs.

  28. J.... ....

Where can I get this song?

  29. p.... ....

I like the faster tempo of the Kentucky Headhunters version. But this is a cool and unique cover!

  30. 6.... ....

I heard this song for the first time today, and so far I've played it four times in a row lol I can never get enough of Natalie's voice!!

  31. L.... G....

This song is from a copulation record Ricky Scaggs recorded with a bunch of country singers it is all Bluegrass I can't find my CD and I don't remeber the name of it.

  32. l.... ....

This version sounds purer to me..I like my country and bluegrass old timey. I did not like this song until I heard this version. The Chicks rule, haters drool

  33. l.... ....

better then the first version, IMO:)

  34. T.... H....

@TheBahamabob if you're talking about the passion for the music, i would have to disagree with you. the kentucky headhunters are/were just as passionate about the music as this version. honestly i have more respect for the headhunters than the dixie chicks (namely natalie) as she was obviously more concerned about using her musical ability as a launch pad to throw out her political agenda. ricky skaggs tho, is pretty much amazing. definitely would have made bill monroe proud.

  35. T.... H....

@ROGERSDUCK there is no denying talent, but to use your musical ability as a political agenda is a completely different story. the truth of the matter is that when she went all political, the people she offended were the people that bought their cd's. the same thing happens to a lot of bands. there's a canadian band called wide mouth mason that did the exact same thing, and now they're pretty much the last little kernal of corn floating in the crapper.

  36. K.... R....

@idc4294 Bill Monroe wrote this song ages ago...the chicks and ricky scaggs cover it here as did the head hunters in the 80's.

  37. r.... ....

    Love that Bluegrass sound.

  38. d.... ....

    LOVE IT!

  39. H.... S....

I hate it Natalie Really belts this one out
Laura's vocles could really be used in this one!!!!

  40. R.... S....

This is one of my very favorite songs for message, melody, acoustic instrumentation but mostly "heart." Authenitic American music is what I say it is. This is really hard to find unless you buy a Ricky Skaggs album. The people who like the Kentucky Headhunters better do not care for the "heart" and the great acoustic picking in this nice duet.

  41. L.... F....

Heard this on Bob Harrris Country, QUALITY!

  42. M.... B....

heard this on radio 2 today loved the melody.

  43. T.... ....

I'd never heard this before..It's pretty darn amazing! <3

  44. K.... G....

great song. I LOVE the Dixie Chicks!!! They r my favorite since I can remeber. I also agree what they said. Who accompanies them in this song? Thanks for posting this.

  45. l.... ....

    ridiculously good.

  46. r.... ....

the song was featured on the album - "big mon: the songs of bill monroe."

  47. r.... ....

wow! i have not heard this song in years! i remember they used to play this cover on the radio. i love it! thank you for posting this!

  48. e.... ....

I love this cover - one of their best. Thanks for posting!

  49. P.... ....

    Great song!!! thanx for postin'!!!
