Ricky Skaggs - He Was On To Somethin' (So He Made You) Lyrics

The moon ain't yellow and the moon ain't blue
It ain't made of cheese and it don't have a thing to do with me and you
Your mind ain't straight and your heart can't break
Tears don't roll and lips don't taste
Like cherry wine sugar and honey dew
But honey when you tell me that you love me true
I believe in you and ooh, your love makes everything come true.

'Cause love makes a blue moon turn gold
Makes a heart break and makes a tear roll
When God made love I betcha he knew
That he was on to somethin' so he made you.

Midnight really ain't the middle of the night
It's easier to the left or a little bit to the right
It's ever so slight
The sun don't move and it can't go down
It never comes up and it don't roll around
Heaven all day the sun don't roll around
But honey when you tell me that you love me true
I believe in you and ooh, your love makes everything come true.

Love makes the sun come up and go down...
Love makes the sun come up and go down...
Yeah, he was on to something so he made you...

Even though this wasn't one of Ricky's biggest hits, it's one of my personal favorites of his. It's such a feel good song, and I love the fiddle and steel guitar playing. One of my local stations was actually still playing it a lot around early 1991, and I have it on at least a couple of cassette tapes I recorded off the radio back then. Brings back great childhood memories!

    Bobby Hicks + Terry Crisp

quite possibly the best fiddle and pedal steel guitar players in the world

Ricky would only hit #25 with this on 11-17-90. Smh.

I remember one of our local stations still played it a lot around early 1991, as if it was a big hit. I was surprised to find out that it only peaked at #25. Should've been much higher, if you ask me!

Thanks for the posting. Great job by Ricky on a great song! The new "country singers" can only wish they had a voice like this. Great steel backup also!

Gold, past times with Ricky, there ain't country from 80's today! Todays country is bombing, lightning, nuclear stuff, noise, plastic flowers...but...you can find and piece of corn flakes...

    I agree
