Ricky Nelson - The Very Thought Of You Lyrics

The very thought of you and I forget to do
The little ordinary things that everyone ought to do
I'm living in a kind of daydream
I'm happy as a king
And foolish though it may seem
To me that's everything

The mere idea of you, the longing here for you
You'll never know how slow the moments go till I'm near to you
I see your face in every flower
Your eyes in stars above
It's just the thought of you
The very thought of you, my love

You'll never know how slow the moments go till I'm near to you
I see your face in every flower
Your eyes in stars above
It's just the thought of you
The very thought of you, my love
It's just the thought of you
The very thought of you, my love
It's just the thought of you
The very thought of you, my love

Ricky Nelson The Very Thought Of You Comments

Composed by Ray Noble, in 1934, and remains a pop standard today. Ricky's hit version in 1964, reached #26 on the Billboard chart, lasting 7 weeks in the Hot 100 and crossing to #11 on Billboard's Easy Listening chart

Ricky just smolders in his videos, and I'm saying that as a straight guy! He had almost a strong a 'pull' on people as Elvis. Very under-rated as a singer. Inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame in Jan. 1987. In 1996, he was ranked #49 on TV Guide's 50 Greatest TV Stars of All Time. R.I.P., at only 45: Born May 8, 1940 in Teaneck, NJ , Died Dec. 31, 1985 in De Kalb, TX).

If a straight guy notices and mentions, imagine his effect on a gay one. At six(!) one doesn't even know what sex is, but that's when I fell in love with him and never fell out. Last night I dropped $40 at eBay for originals of this one and "Fools Rush In" just to have the picture sleeves of Nelson records I already have. I hope I never know a more dreadful New Years than 1986. As you mention, he was 45 when he died, and hadn't lost any of his talent _or_ any of his attractive 'pull.'

An excellent record. The quality of Nelson's material did not diminish, but a record like "Very Thought" ended up competing with "I Want To Hold Your Hand," "She Loves You," "Can't Buy Me Love," and "Love Me Do," which were flying off shelves fast enough to leave smoke trails. When it comes to casualties of the 'British Invasion,' Nelson and Roy Orbison are the two most unfair examples.

+Dave dvlaries I would also add to your fine examples (Nelson and Orbison) Neil Sedaka, who though he sang songs that may sound bubblegum-like today, he sold millions of records from 1958 through 1963, and then was able to comeback in 1975 with more great songs!. In regards to Orbison, he was able to fly in the teeth of The British Invasion, and shined with his greatest hit of all: the #1 smash, "Oh, Pretty Woman" in 1964.

Rick had some excellent 2-siders that gave us our money's worth, but this tune with I Wonder as the flipside beats out Travelin Man and Hello Mary Lou by a hair.

I taught this song to my little nieces...now when I crank this up... they sing right along! Love you, Rick.... You were the first rock star I remember, thanks to your families show. To this day you have a special place in my heart! When I did get to see you live in the early 80's, you did not disappoint!
