Ricky Nelson - Funny How Time Slips Away Lyrics

Well hello there
My it's been a long, long time
How'm I doin'
Well I guess I'm doin' fine
It's been so long now, and it seems now
That it was only yesterday
Gee it's funny how time slips away

How's your new love
I hope that he's doin' fine
I heard you told him
That you'd love him till the end of time
Now that's the same thing that you told me
And it seems like yesterday
Gee it's funny how time slips away

I gotta go now
I guess I'll see you around
I don't know when though
Never know when I'll be back in town
But remember, when I tell you
That in time you're gonna pay
And it's surprisin' how time slips away

    This song is just perfect

  2. J.... P....

We saw Rick from a boy to a man. It was a pleasure.

  3. H.... ....

Ricky Nelson, the American Cliff Richard

  4. c.... ....

Rick almost sounds like a young Willie Nelson.

  5. V.... G....

yeahhhh...!!!! I love this deep and soft voice... simply beautiful, I got the chills!

  6. C.... S....

He's probably one of the most good looking men I've ever seen.

  7. L.... L....

Nice ! Many other artists have sang this song. Elvis Presley's cover is so soulful.
Miss those days of Mr. Ricky Nelson, Mr. Elvis Presley and others. I wish there was a time machine so could go back and have these singers back again. Both Mr. Nelson and Mr. Elvis Presley died way too soon. RIP Ricky. RIP Elvis.

  8. R.... L....

Rick wrote "Garden Party" in response to those folks in attendance at MSG who weren't impressed when he sang country songs like this one.  The unimpressed wanted him - and everyone else who appeared that night - to sing his hits from the 50s and 60s.

  9. G.... D....

    WOW...here come the tears.
    What a beautiful talent.

  10. G.... F....

Does anyone know if this was released on vinyl/dvd? Thanks in advance? 🥀

  11. G.... F....

Love this song by the best singer of all time. Such a sweet, sweet voice.

  12. S.... 3....

This is the version i`ve been looking for for years A great version of namesake Willies classic song . Sumtious

  13. j.... r....

I like Ricky’s version, I’ve always been fan, however, I feel that the version by Jimmy Elledge on RCA Records beats all the other versions. Listen to it please.

  14. C.... ....

This song is off his Country Fever album. My dad bought this when it was released back in 1966, I think. I remember listening to it so many times growing up and I can't think of a bad song on the whole thing. Still have Dad's album, but I bought it on CD for the car. 😎

  15. F.... A....

RICKY DOES HIS USUAL WORKMANLIKE JOB & IT IS E/Z TO LISTEN TO....

  16. C.... G....

"My it's been a long long, time"..."It's been so long now".... "Funny how time slips away." HOW MANY YEARS? I don't like counting. I wish Rick was still singing and writing his own songs. We got cheated! Will we get to hear him sing his songs in Heaven? I wonder ... Oh that's another of Rick's songs, isn't it?

  17. A.... R....

    Loved it..!! <3

  18. d.... ....

Willie Nelson wrote it and Rick did a bang-up job singing.

  19. R.... J....

Thank you . love listening to Ricky Nelson.wonderful video.

  20. .... ....

  21. B.... F....

Wonderful mellow sounds from a soft spoken idol of my teenage years singing one of Willies best songs. RIP Rickey... Thank you.

  22. T.... J....

Ricky takes ownership, does total justice for this and many a song. He does their authors proud as we the listeners emote.

  23. R.... B....

OMG, he had so much talent! I loved all of his songs!

  24. R.... B....

He was so good looking and had such a wonderful voice! Why did all the greats have to die so tragically? Not fair! He would or was so great! Velvet voice!

  25. e.... h....

Brenda lee did this song best

  26. B.... M....

I got to work with him back in '81 ( this is my wife's account ) ...

  27. L.... L....

Ray Price had the best version of this. He had the best version of most everything.

    L.... L....

With all due respect, I submit your opinion in no way diminishes the beauty of Rick's version. It's really pointless to choose a best version, when you get right down to it,

  28. c.... ....

I saw Ricky in 1957 at Blue Bird Stadium in Columbus Ohio with his 3 piece band / I sure miss Ricky

  29. O.... Y....

Willie Nelson wrote this and is singing it also.

  30. i.... ....

Rick sounds great singing this Billy Walker classic.

    i.... ....

It was written by Willie Nelson.

  31. R.... M....

Até o fim de sua vida,tão cedo,Rick foi fã incondicional de Elvis, esta versão é ótima!

  32. d.... ....

Is Rick the man, or what?

    d.... ....

drbombay91765 not nearly as good as Elvis.

    d.... ....

Grew up with David and Ricky.  Remember when they would take Ozzie's car and go joy riding.  He had to call Hill Street Station and have a motor officer chase them down and return them (and the car) home.  Ricky has been magical since he started singing and always will be.  Yes, he is the man.

  33. M.... C....

One of the most beautiful of Rick´s songs.

    M.... C....

This song was written by Willie Nelson.

  34. R.... S....

I believe that Clarence White is playing guitar on this

  35. J.... W....

I just bought the CD "bright lights and country music / country fever" and I am so happy that this song was on there! I love this song...

  36. N.... N....

Love this song, so many great singers have performed this song............just don't hear music like this anymore!

  37. J.... L....

Ricky could sing anything. Very nice.

  41. A.... W....

The Jordanairs were asked to meet with Ricky. Ricky thought they were above his efforts and the Jordanairs felt the same way about Ricky.

    A.... W....

    A fantastic music collaboration.

    A.... W....

+Ron H The leader of the Jordanairs, Gordon Stoker has been dead a few years. He was kin to the Featherstone family of McKinzey, Tn. That would be my wife's half sisters and brother. Would it be fair that you are comparing apples to oranges?

    A.... W....

The best harmonies in my opinion is the Statler Brothers.

  42. e.... ....

    Awesome!!!!!

  43. D.... L....

only one on youtube, thanks for helping me expand my ricky

  44. A.... W....

I think it's time we all met at the malt shop.

    A.... W....

Shadow, I have 99 Olds 88. For several months the check engine light was on but suddenly it went off about ten days ago. I drove to the place where they check the cars and bless my soul it passed. I bought the car off EBAY and picked it up at a Volvo dealership in Atlanta. It had about 30,000 miles and it has about 130,00 miles on it today. I love that old car and when I have to get rid of it I'm afraid no other car can really take its place.

    A.... W....

@Alwey Wong I'm all for that, know my Dolly will be too! We'll meet you there in my Chevy SS!

  45. R.... J....

Gee its funny how time slips away !!🎸

  46. k.... ....

    Song of two Nelsons :D

  47. p.... k....

    That was wonderful.

  48. s.... m....

they're all gone. such a loss. RIP

  49. m.... b....

missy his voice and songs he could sing and real easy on the eyes

  50. k.... d....

Rick could never win on of the tv show competitions nowadays because
he didn't sing HARD enough or LOUD enough. I think I'll take his style any day over the competition bullshit.

    k.... d....

Yeah, those competitions really take all the individuality out of singing, 'cause they all basically have the same 'power is everything' approach. I don't mind some power singers if they have individuality but singers like Rick are just as valuable.

    k.... d....

    @ken d  Well said!

    k.... d....

You can quadruple that thumbs up for me. For Rick it was about the song as a whole, not the singer first and then the song like now. With a beautiful tone and range of a baritone and tenor, he just knocks me over when he holds back and then releases, instead of all over the map like they do now. Save the opera for the opera hall please.

    k.... d....

    completely agree

  51. L.... E....

    ƸӜƷ

  52. L.... R....

Meant to say that you've made a great, fitting background to a talented guy.

  53. L.... R....

Handsome doesn't begin to describe him - and such a polished performer, too. Sadly missed by many.......

  54. A.... V....

Rick does a good job with this song

    A.... V....

@Ancilla Vandeburgt Yes he does very good job as he did with so many! But I'm afraid this one still belongs to Johnny Tillotson.

    A.... V....

@Peter Williams Yeah, I love both versions, Ricky and Johnny are two of my favourite singers.

  55. a.... ....

As a softer, clean-cut alternative to Elvis....his music reflected the late 50's early 60's
his slow songs were brilliant....not so keen on his rock 'roll ....happy memories of his music !!

  56. B.... C....

    Goes good with his Vocals!

  57. h.... h....

there are all sorts of styles different people like different singers it doesn't mean one is better than the other
to me al green is a soul singer
ricky nelson has his own stye...to each his own

  58. h.... h....

    I bet there are

  59. b.... ....

There are lots of us who don't agree with you.

  60. R.... ....

    Yes it is...

  61. h.... h....

    al green does this best

  62. L.... B....

He sings this songbgreat he owns it!!!

  63. j.... ....

Not so many after 1963 or so and when the British Invasion hit. Music changed so fast and so much that the type of stuff he was good at was no longer considered hip. That's too bad because he really did have some serious talent. He wasn't the only one who declined after the British Invasion, there were many others.

  64. b.... ....

Ricky had no shortage of good songs, in fact many great songs, check him out.........

  65. j.... ....

A very underrated performer. Too bad more good songs were not written for him.

  66. M.... O....

What you all are a fan of is Rick Nelson's wonderful voice quality and interpretation! He knew how to treat a song, you can tell from this performance, he could feel it as he sang. Today it's always about the singer and not the song. This is wrong, and Rick proved this with this one performance right here. This is one of the best recordings I ever heard Rick sing on, it's got soul, and so much better than the shit they call music you hear now, even in country music.

  67. I.... M....

marvelous rendition of a wonderfull song, I also love Johnny Tillotsons version.

  68. b.... ....

    I'll say Amen to that..........

  69. m.... o....

    Elvis too.

  70. m.... ....

I just checked this on the internet.... I love Rick Nelson songs and his singing... but he was not related to Willie Nelson at all...

  71. m.... ....

Scanning the comments.... and I have to agree with just about everyone... Actually almost every song Rick Nelson sings is the best version of it.. he was that good... Sadly the day he died Dec 31 1985 was my 32nd birthday... I was a EPCOT in Disney World...Thousands of people were stunned as the news of his plane crash was announced... He is truly missed..

  72. g.... ....

Perry Como does a great job on this song too.

  73. t.... ....

The DEFINITIVE version of this song IMHO.

Bless your hide for posting this.

  74. S.... B....

    @rockin1953
Rick and Willie are first cousins. Ozzie's brother is Willie's dad.

  75. b.... ....

    @CATniteOwl
Yes, It's my favourite version of this song also.

  76. C.... ....

Maybe the best version of this song. I've always liked his voice and songs but he was just awesome on this!

  77. C.... ....

@carolinesoswt yes, he died in a plane crash. And now all of the Nelsons are gone - Ozzy, Harriet, David and Ricky.

  78. m.... ....

This song this version helped me thru a divorce....Ricks music and his interprtation of great songs like this could take you down to the depths of dispare...then back to the top....the entire song is done in that true country western style...back when it was still called such....

  79. b.... ....

@barrygioportmorien1 which album is this on. is it on a CD

  80. t.... ....

Kind of a gem... I hadn't heard this... the maturity in his voice makes me think it was later in his career?
Tragic loss... his records were always good-to-great.
He was a gifted comedic actor, too, and he held his own with Dean Martin and John Wayne in a western, if I'm not mistaken.

  81. j.... b....

Ricky has such an easy relaxed style. Sort of like Perry Como. No caterwauling or overly emotional histrionics. It's a pleasure to listen to him.

  82. T.... ....

    Thanks for the post.

  83. N.... G....

I like this version and Elvis, too, I love their country songs.

  84. s.... ....

i totally agree,Ricky never lost any talent like so many others did. such a good lookin, talented guy. perfectly clear voice, luved the guy

  85. b.... ....

You're welcome, He also does a great job on Willie's "Hello Walls" .

  86. T.... ....

I'm not a big fan of country, but I like this.

  87. b.... ....

    Paula
I agree with you so immensely, Ricky was next to Elvis in the Rock n' Roll world and he could sing a Country song ag good as anyone, and I am a big country fan. Ricky was more of a Country singer than any of the so called Country singers of today, he was just never accepted as such, except by his real fans.
    Barry

  88. d.... d....

    rick for all time..........

  89. Z.... ....

Thanks for this nice version, never heard it before.
