Rick Springfield is underrated, IMO. This song is a complete departure from his previous stuff and demonstrates how he evolved his sound.

I loved this song for years without having any clues who it was by, or even what it was. I had it on a crappy old cassette, taped from Tommy Vance's Radio 1 Rock Show in the UK. It was only when Google arrived that I was able to identify it.

I was nine years old when this video was new in 1988 and I had no idea that the guy at the conclusion of the video was actually Rick himself with his hair pulled back into a ponytail and a fake moustache on.  Of course now I can tell it's him very easily.  I have a copy of the Rock Of Life album by him on disc and in all honesty, that is my very favourite Rick Springfield album of all time.  Even though his most successful one to date is probably Working Class Dog from 1980, Rock Of Life is my absolute favourite and the song from that album that I love the best which never made it as a hit was a song called Dream In Colour.

I was 16 when this came out. have not heard this song since then. all I could remember from the lyrics was...waking up late with the house on fire. was not till a family guy episode with Rick springfield in it did it finally click that he was the artist to this song. so it's only been 28 years that I last heard this tune.

had 2 tickets for this concert in 88 and it was canceled.He always says in documentaries that it was because he had a 3 wheeler accident and fucked himself up.But at the time when they said show was canceled and we could get our money back,they said it was canceled because of poor ticket sales.His career was downward spiraling so he took a long break

I couldn't remember who did this song. I just remembered I had the tape. "The baby is crying". And a baby giggled at the end of the tape. I forgot about it for over 20 years. Then just the other day when my newborn cried I started singing it.
