Rick Springfield - I Go Swimming Lyrics

Ooh, I go swimming, swimming in the water
Swimming in the river, swimming in the sea
I go swimming
I go swimming, swimming in the water
Swimming in the pool, swimming is cool
I go swimming

The sun is burning, I am yearning
For the waterflow (waterflow)
Next to my skin I, like to begin a
Waterflow (waterflow)
Letting off steam I float in a dream,
I can't let go (can't let go)
Follow my wishes, follow the fishes
Down below (down below)
I go swimming

I need water, water to drink
Water on my brain, water sustain,
Water over me
I want water, water I need
Water to think, water to drink
Water over me

The sun is burning, I am yearning
For the waterflow (waterflow)
Next to my skin I, like to begin a
Waterflow (waterflow)
Letting off steam I float in a dream,
I can't let go (can't let go)
Follow my wishes, follow the fishes
Down below (down below)
I go swimming

I go swimming, I go swimming
Swimming in water, swimming in water, swimming in water
Water all over me
Swimming in water, swimming in water, swimming in water
I go swimming, I go swimming
I go swimming, I go swimming
Swimming, I go swimming
Oh I go swimming, I go swimming
Water all over me
Swimming in water, swimming in water, swimming in water
Water all over me
Swimming in water, swimming in water, swimming in water
Water all over me
Swimming in water, swimming in water, swimming in water
Water all over me

Not too often that the live version is actually better than the studio version. Go check it out. Sounds like when he was recording this it went through some kind of a compression or the file was compressed using early digital recording..anyone with me on this?

  2. A.... ....

I think he did this live when I saw him perform at Hammersmith Odeon after the release of PG3 way back in '78 or '79?

    A.... ....

PG3 was released in 1980. This version has a definite PG2 feel to it so he may have been performing it as early as '79.

  3. A.... Q....

    Sounds like a demo.

  4. n.... ....

This version almost has a Roxy Music-vibe to it compared to the better known take...

  5. J.... K....

    PG is OK.

    J.... K....

    Ahah nice one

  6. P.... R....

This is not the studio version though - it's a mash-up of demos and (I think) the 1987 instrumental version that was on the B-side of the Red Rain single ("GA-GA")

  7. J.... ....

Wow! Never heard this version before and I find it shocking. I went to see him play during this tour in Montreal and it was a spectacular show.

I have (what sounds like) a studio recording of "I go swimming" that I recorded on a cassette back in 1984 while I was listening to WLIR from Long Island. Sounds very different from this studio recording. Although I recorded only about 98% of the song, it is by far my favorite version. btw, went to Peter Gabriel and Sting concert last night in Camden NJ...great show!

    c.... m....

whoooooooooo!! WLIR!!! Larry the DUCK has been on my show.. WUSB.fm = WAXX TRAXX TO THE MAXX>. i got to interview Steve Hackett! saw peter gabriel and sting @ jones beach... summer 17

  9. n.... ....

I remember this live and really enjoying it.... But time has not done this any favours...

    n.... ....

Try to flashback; it's quite refreshing for many.

  10. N.... H....

Do You know when This Was Recorded?

  11. t.... ....

On the B-side of "Red Rain", they issued the backing track to this. I didn't know lyrics had been recorded at that stage, during the sessions for the 3rd album. Thanks for the upload! iN MY pg PLAYList.

  12. D.... V....

Isn't the studio version the one used on the soundtrack to Rick Springfield's 1984 "Hard to Hold"?

    D.... V....

No, the live version is used.  Fact.

    D.... V....

That's the version I grew up listening to :-)

  13. o.... ....

First time I hear this version!!!  And I have his entire catalog and have seen him live at least ten times!!  This is soooo cool!!!!!!   Thanks!!!

    o.... ....

PG is always up for a surprise. The very moment you think you already have collected all the songs. I just love him for this. :)

    o.... ....

He played this live in New Jersey. It was on the pier cant remember exactly. I remember him doing that running in place thing and swinging his arms like he was swimming

    o.... ....

@Rich Moore At the Garden State Arts Center, 1983? I was also at that show!

  14. D.... S....

Interesting version, but not the only studio version. I have an import bootleg that has a different studio version.

    D.... S....

1984 (Hard To Hold soundtrack) ?

    D.... S....

Nope, it's on a bootleg (?) of Gabriel demos.

    D.... S....

    David Sorcher please post it

    D.... S....

@Scott Warner, the version on the soundtrack is the live version, strangely.

  15. A.... H....

    Geniusness at is finest!

  16. c.... ....

Incredible song, especially starting @ 2:50. Just amazing.

  17. t.... ....

    He's the best!!! A GOD!

  18. a.... ....

Half-baked lyrics in Gabrielese. He's the fucking man.

  19. a.... ....

It's the version from the soundtrack album Hard To Hold, released in 1984.

    a.... ....

No, the version on the Hard to Hold soundtrack is the live version.

  20. s.... ....

it's a demo, it was never officially released, hence different lyrics and bad quality

  21. s.... ....

Loved this song live. Had no idea there was a studio version!

    s.... ....

    where there's a studio, there's always NEW🎼🎶🎶🎶💜

  22. m.... ....

it is on vinyl, and No self control is the B-Side. It's a 12" single.

  23. g.... ....

I'm not an aficionado of Gabriel's music, but this was my #1 favorite song when it came out live in the early 80's. I wished it made it to vinyl.
