Richard Thompson - Bones Of Gilead Lyrics

What's my name? My name is trouble
Trouble of the tender kind
From the ruin, from the rubble
I will rise like London Pride

No checkpoint will stop me
There is no plan
Like an earthquake I'll rock you
Run if you can

By the flesh of Gilead
By the bones of Gilead
By the flesh of Gilead
By the bones of Gilead

What's my name? My name is heartbreak
Heartbreak of the giving kind
I will come and whisper sweetness
Sweetness that will dawn your mind

No rib cage can hold me
No loving cup
I don't fit your wise world
I tear it up

By the flesh of Gilead
By the bones of Gilead
By the flesh of Gilead
By the bones of Gilead

What's my name? Just call me Micah
Micah like the Bible says
I can't help it, it's within me
Runes are written on my face

False prophets accuse me
Their days are few
I heal all before me
I will heal you

By the flesh of Gilead
By the bones of Gilead
By the flesh of Gilead
By the bones of Gilead
By the flesh of Gilead
By the bones of Gilead

  5. M.... G....

this tune really gets into your "bones" immense body of work, incredible RT.

  6. L.... S....

    OMGoodness!

  7. H.... V....

It sounds like there will come another great album from this guy.

  8. G.... E....

After many visits I am of the opinion that this is even better than "The Storm Won't Come." Either way, I believe we're in for the best album since "Mock Tudor."

    G.... E....

God I love Mock Tudor. Extraordinary album.

    G.... E....

RT makes very good albums, and he makes great ones. This may be one of the great ones. I'll know for sure about a year from now.

  9. l.... ....

Great song, great artist. Still creative after all these years. He still tries, still cares. Neil Young is another of the rarities of that generation who are still great.

  10. R.... E....

Saw the great show in Dublin last night. As always with RT a consummate superb performance. The trio were terrific

  11. H.... L....

I hear a post punk/new wave vibe here. More great sounds from Richard Thompson.

  12. P.... ....

Richard and the band played this at Gawsworth Hall in Macclesfield a few nights ago. He and they were magnificent. Shame about the seats though, and the bloody pillar that obscured my view. Grr.
My daughter, at 23, was one of the youngest in the audience. It was almost all oldies like me, which is sad, because Richard Thompson is better than all the crap that the youngsters listen to (I was going to say 99% of it, but I don't believe that). He still rocks and his voice seems to have improved markedly. Has he been taking singing lessons? I'm serious. If you can, get along to see him this summer. He can't go on forever, sadly.

    P.... ....

Pwecko Seeing him tomorrow, can't wait! Glad you enjoyed it.

    P.... ....

Pwecko going to see the great man in November at Bexhill - cannot wait!!! Saw him solo acoustic last year in Brighton and he was magnificent, but I missed his unique electric guitar style. RT has the ability to move an audience through several layers of emotion seamlessly - one minute you are laughing at one of his stories the next you find yourself welling up as he sings Sandy Denny's Who Knows Where the Time Goes. I think he pulls it off because he is genuine. Highlights of the night were Gethsemene and Down Where the Drunkards Roll (for me). Sorry to ramble on but you know how it is!!

    P.... ....

honeychurchgipsy6 I do know how it is. I find myself waxing lyrical about Richard Thompson to people who aren't familiar with him and realising that I must sound like a star-struck teenager.
The first time I saw him was at a solo gig at the Free Trade Hall in Manchester in the late 80s or early 90s. I thought he was going to be with a band, so I was disappointed when I just saw his guitars on the stage. I wasn't disappointed when he started playing though.
I must admit, it took me a long time to become a big fan of RT. His voice takes some getting used to. But after a while, you wouldn't want him any other way, so to speak.

    P.... ....

Pwecko - I envy you having been a fan for so long. My brother introduced me to him about 12 years ago when he played me Vincent Black Lightning in his old van. He made me listen to the words and I was overwhelmed by it: for a long time I couldn't listen to it without crying - lol!!! My friend can't understand why I like him. I found it took me ages to get my head around his electric guitar solos but now I'd rather listen to him than anyone else.

    P.... ....

No, Richard is actually one of the few immortals who walk the earth. I know he looks like he's getting old, but it's just a clever ruse. He started playing guitar in like 6000 BC or something.

  13. W.... F....

Great stuff! Last saw RT at Boardinghouse Park in Lowell, MA on Labor Day weekend 2011. Gotta see him again!

  14. C.... L....

Shake em, shake em, shake em!!!...To Magnificence!

  15. M.... A....

Heard it on the radio. Sounds good.

  16. T.... C....

Pity Johnny Cash is dead ! He'd do brilliant on this, produced by Rick Rubin

    T.... C....

    Or not!!!

  17. J.... L....

It's rock 'n roll and it is amazing.

  18. C.... B....

    Genius!!!

  19. M.... A....

I like it because it sounds like a Richard Thompson song!

  20. G.... E....

    Wonderful.

  21. J.... S....

Could work well live with electric band I think...

  22. D.... B....

Sounds awesome can't wait to aquire and enjoy it in it's entirety...caught his NorCal show couple years ago can't wait for this tour

  23. r.... ....

    Ghost of Devo.

    r.... ....

I get it. Shades of Devo in the rhythm playing.

    r.... ....

Chris Parkin Maybe he should have done some Devo in his "1000 years of popular music"

    r.... ....

That would have been good. :-)

  24. B.... K....

    Never sounded better!

  25. T.... D....

Perhaps its the analogue recording, but these recordings have a gorgeous sound...sharp and soft at the same time. I cannot wait for the entire album to be delivered to my home. And the understated guitar playing from time to time is gorgeous and appropriate. Wow!!! And did I mention RT's voice? It has never been in better form or sounded better!

    T.... D....

Exactly why it sounds like this!

    T.... D....

Portrait photo is very b eautiful imo xxx

  26. M.... J....

    Awesome

  27. T.... J....

    GREAT!!!....as usual....
