Richard, Cliff - Carrie Lyrics
Sorry to disturb you
But I was in the neighbourhood
About a friend I've her picture
Could you take a look?
Oh, I appreciate you're busy
Yeah, maybe it would be better
If I telephoned
[Chorus:]
Carrie doesn't live here anymore
Carrie used to room on the second floor
Sorry that she left no forwarding address
That was known to me
Carrie doesn't live here anymore
You could always ask at the corner store
It's plain to see
Another missing person
One of many we assume
The young wear their freedom
Like cheap perfume
(It's useless information)
Returning my call
(To help the situation)
They've nothing at all
You're just another message
On a payphone wall
[Chorus]

2020? Someone??
Who is still listening to this song 2020? 🤗...one of my favourites of all time❤
I just stumbled across it because I'm composing a playlist of songs that were in the hitlist on the exact date of my sister's birth, 40 years ago. Can't believe I never heard this song before!
I loved this song when I was a kid. Still do. It only hit #34 on Billboard.
Excellent song.
I can't believe I don't know this! It's a great little catchy tune, but it's quite sad.
Cliff always had a nice voice
Still Great! ... I met him back in 1992 - I was working with a few of his musicians. Nice bloke - awfully tall - about 6.ft 3ins.
Another super song and brilliant video
Cliff is a great guy.
One of the few hits he had in the USA. He should have had more here. Thanks KNX fm.
Always loved this mans music such a lovely distinctive voice xx
Good song. Sir cliff is the man.
Shout out to Graham Norton. I never knew Sir Cliff Richard. Love him!! Burning up iTunes getting his stuff! Also noticed that a lot of other artists have copied his style.
Always think of the film Carrie when i hear this song
Amazing in 2019
My fav cliff song narrative is faab, just like my other fave song suzzane vegas luka.
class from cliff fairplay
Written by B.A. Robertson, I believe.
He wrote loads of great songs.
This song is just awesome. One of his very best
Such a great song from Cliff, remember it from the time though I was a nipper. This could just as easily have been recorded by The Police or any of a number of cooler groups/artists at the time and it would probably have topped the charts, or got way higher at least. Under-rated this one for sure.
Shout out for B A Robertson. Just sayin'.
Es un linda canción aunque no lo escuchado antes
Is this Boris Johnson's theme tune?
he was far better than he got credit for
What an amazing voice. His vocal delivery is unbeatable. He sure knows how to get the best out of a song, and such a great record. A joy to listen to.
dayoconnerbagargoldscumchts
he still has the look
Great song, beats all today's shit hands down
Hi am archie I'm your big fan
Just turned 41 and just realised the song isn’t Gary lol
I BELIEVE THAT THERE HAVE BEEN ONLY TWO ARTISTS WITH NUMBER ONE HITS IN EACH OF - REPEAT EACH - FOUR STRAIGHT DECADES.
CLIFF RICHARD WAS ONE OF THOSE GREAT ARTISTS. Many artists endured but not with number ones!

Are you aware that you left a half dozen identical comments.
This man is s legend one the the best ever .
CARRIE ...I LOVE THAT SONG.. HAVENT HEARD THAT SONG FOR MANY YEARS GREAT SONG IT IS
Up there with Elvis is Cliffy! Virgin radio & classic gold suck!
I believe that this is an amazingly creative well crafted song. Terribly overlooked by the "cool" people who have overlooked many others...
Raphael de España
Classic after all these years....you can always ask at the corner store
Still a great record
He is amazing, so brilliant, isn’t he? Cliff can handle any song.
Early 1980! Disco was on its way out (but still a few number of songs with disco influence) and the music we now associate with the "80s sound" with heavy synths was in its infancy. Blondie, Queen, Pink Floyd, and Bob Seger were burning up the charts at this time. Plenty of good stuff, love it.
My Mum is a huge fan of Cliff. I was brought up on his music and was a teen in the 80's. Loved this era of his music.💞
Still listening 39 years later!
My dad was backing singer number 3
When Cliff ruled the world
Sir cliff
Heard this for first time on radio today and swore it was Robert Plant singing. Great tune.
He looks like a pixie
For Boris J
For nature, 40 years is quite a long time gone by ,but for us, 40 years is just some time we´ve lived, ( our body is so weak). Young people will never understand this until they pass this experience , Who wants to live for ever????
Nice song 👍 I love 💕 it.
The UK should be so ashamed of themselves the way they have treated this amazing man and singer.....Still listening to him 60 years after first hearing him on my older uncles record player....
Luckily, we don't hear anything about him in the US (good or bad). We just get healthy doses of the Kardashians :-( Love Sir Cliff Richard. Loved Devil Woman and everything he did after that (that hit the US charts). Then got one of his greatest hits that contains lots of songs that never did well here. He is really talented. Just amazing the music he (and others) sung back in the day compared to today's mess. All I Ask of You and Ocean Deep are among my favorites because they show his talents compared to the radio hits that are good, but not great.
@Pj Whitby I agree with you o that. But some in the UK media were total jerks!
love this song.and yes - his acting is also superb in this video together with his vocals.love him and his talent! the payphone wall-- my teenage years.so moving song.cool for sex-- always was.
Carrie white pour ceux qui ont le film d'horreur.
I thought this song was 'Gary doesn't live here anymore.'
I love cliff
I’m a bit unsure if something nefarious happened to Carrie or if she was just a gypsy type who got bored and went somewhere else: “the young wear their freedom like cheap perfume....”
This song always reminds me of that Kenny Everett tv show😁
You have to understand with music when certain artists are known for singing A Certain type of genre and change to a different genre they will loose fans and the people that hated them before it still hate them it's hard to Branch out that's why there is so many underrated albums. I would not have put Cliff Richard in the category of 80s rock but he has rock alubms. !!! But it's like I said before the Cliff Richards the Tina Turners the Bette Midlers The chers of this world have had such long careers I'd be pretty shocked if they didn't try the different genres out there.
he did some cracking records
Almost all of them were
One of Cliff`s finest !
This song was great in the 80’s and it’s still great today.
Cliff's best song in my opinion :)
a really great song; part of my childhood soundtrack!
This sold more copies than some number one hits in the UK during the 1980s, such as Desire by U2 and Heart by The Pet Shop Boys.
Why this Song wasnt number one?
Written by B.A. Robertson who also wrote "The living years" for Mike & the Mechanics
good to know
Oh interesting. Thanks for the information filling gaps in my 80s music knowledge.
Thanks for the cue in. Great to know this factoid for it's a great song. Living Years also classic. That explains it.
He also co-wrote Wired For Sound.
Remember from my childhood, now recognise the influence of joe Jackson in the chorus n middle eigth.....
Did they ever find Gary though?
This is a truly iconic song, sung by an iconic singer. My favorite singer..
Cliff needs to call the BBC about Carrie- they'll send over a helicopter search team....
And he'll sue
Nice song xx🌹
no cliff fan but always liked this one
Absolutely brilliant song yet never got anywhere in the charts.
It was a hit in the UK, (reaching No. 4).
Did well in Australia as well
One of Cliff's best.
Great song. Get lost BBC you blood suckers!
Bob Holness played the sax on this record.
Cliff at his best.
fab song
great song,.. carries not around anymore.
I once experienced Mandela effect and watched Television programming from an alternative reality where Cliff had an animated series in which he had adventures.
My favourite CR song...reminds me a tiny bit of Steely Dan...
I agree on the Steely Dan thang. Such cool modulations.
Absolutely there’s a Steely Dan influence - the chords in the chorus are 100% a particular type of voicing that the Dan were very fond of and are all over their albums.
Chez Moi Devil woman...👍
I agree. Donald Fagen type chord changes.
Sadly there is 0% chance of music of this sophistication ever being in the charts again.
Sorry to disturb you
But I was in the neighbourhood
About a friend I've her picture
Could you take a look?
Oh, I appreciate you're busy
And time is not your own
Yeah, maybe it would be better
If I telephoned
Carrie doesn't live here anymore
Carrie used to room on the second floor
Sorry that she left no forwarding address
That was known to me
Carrie doesn't live here anymore
You could always ask at the corner store
Carrie had a date with her own kind of fate
It's plain to see
Another missing person
One of many we assume
The young wear their freedom
Like cheap perfume
(It's useless information)
Returning my call
