Rich Mullins - We Are Not As Strong As We Think We Are Lyrics
Well, it took the hand of God Almighty
To part the waters in the sea
But it only took one little lie
To separate you and me
As we think we are
And they say that one day Joshua
He made the sun stand still in the sky
But I can't even keep
These thoughts of you from passing by
Oh, we are not as strong
As we think we are
We are fearfully
And wonderfully made
Forged in the fires
Of human passion
Choking on the fumes
Of selfish rage
And with these our hells and our heavens
So few inches apart
We must be awfully small
And not as strong as we think we are
And the Master said that faith was
Gonna make them mountains move
But me I tremble like a hill on a fault line
Just at the thought of how I lost You
Oh, we are not as strong
As we think we are
We are frail
We are fearfully
And wonderfully made
Forged in the fires
Of human passion
Choking on the fumes
Of selfish rage
And with these our hells and our heavens
So few inches apart
We must be awfully small
And not as strong as we think we are
And if you make me laugh
I know I could make you like me
'Cause when I laugh
I can be a lot of fun
Well, we can't do that
I know that it is frightening
What I don't know is
Why we can't hold on
We can't hold on
It took the hand of God Almighty
To part the waters in the sea
But it only took one little lie
To separate you and me
Oh, we are not as strong
As we think we are
When you love you walk on the water
Just don't stumble on the waves
We all want to go there somethin' awful
But to stand there it takes some grace
'Cause oh, we are not as strong
As we think we are
No, we are not as strong
As we think we are
Walk on the water
Walk on the water
If we could just hold on
Just hold on

Trust me it was not Joshua who made the the sun stand still.. It was Jesus/El-Elyon. Joshua was a tool in God's Hand. The revelation is HIM not us. Surrender to God who desires to work His Will in and through us. Love you's.
If you haven't seen it, this is a must-watch for Rich Mullins fans, IMHO. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2412568/
Just watched his movie Ragamuffin. Watch his story. shows struggle and victory over and over.
My great uncle passed away last night so I'm angry at he devil. My mom gave me the bobble heads of a mummy and that devil and if my anger doesn't go away I'm goi g to throw them across the room and brea them. When my memere died 2 years ago I broke my guitar hero guitar because I was very very angry at the devil. I am about ready to break those STUPID RETARDED devil bobble heads. I HATE satan. I had a nightmare where a demon told me he took my uncle and he laughed at me saying things likw do I relly hink God loves me if he let them take my uncle. Satan only comes to kill steel and deztroy. This whole thing is making me really sick.
Hang onto faith. I've lost my grandpa, great uncle, family and friends...God does not leave and He is Stronger than any trials that come your way.
Open of my favorite songs. This song is so raw
Sometimes listening to a song isn't enough to sink in the message so I have copied and pasted the lyrics for ALL to follow along with the words of Our Dearly Beloved Waynes Words aka Rich Mullins.

Thanks alot!! Needed this ❤
23 people are as strong as they think they are...
So much respect ❤
i love all his music he had an awesome voice
this song is featuring who?? female voice
Rich Mullins and Keith Green are similar in their raw honesty in their writing. And we lost them both so young
Amen 😁
This is a prayer for someone who needs this song. To know it's okay to be weak in God's arms, to let Him hold you until you stop shaking. To be honest with Him & your angels & allow Him to work it out. In His time. Stand with grace & align with faith. I pray that we all hold on for the glory (doxa) of God to shine through the deepest, darkened corners of our galactic souls. In Jesus name, Amen.
Vets NEED to listen to this guy!!! Rich might not be with us anymore but I suspect that his music turned thousands of Americans from suicide and paths that led to hell. Rich Mullins was a TRUE Evangelist of Yeshua Messiah!
God bless us all who think we are
I am not much into music, but I can see his struggles reflected in his music, that's why it's so powerful. You have a man who's music reflects his struggle.
yeah ragamuffin was a great movie
we are fearfully and wonderfully made....this song makes me miss Rich that much more.
Really miss Rich & his honesty. Found someone that writes & sings with the same kinda passion, if anyone's interested his name its Jason Upton. He's remarkable too, think Rich fans would appreciate him. His testimonies are amazing.
Thanks. I'll check him out. I adored Rich Mullins and was devastated when he died. :(
CRAZY!! He's going to be in my hometown on June 23rd!! Thank you!!
No matter how righteous and saved we think we are "We are not as strong as we think we are.".
This song is the human condition,
Need Jesus more today than yesterday
Rich Mullins is one of the best christian singers of all times right up there with Amy Grant and Carman
Vincent Long very funny.
Vincent Long LOL! There's absolutely no comparison. Carman? Please. Amy Grant is/was good but even she would defer to Rich Mullins.
Vincent Long
Thank you!!!!! I agree. Amy Grant, I just saw again this summer. She so vulnerable on her music too. Agreed! 🙏🏻🕊
Mark
I respectfully disagree. I have explored all of her albums and she is so vulnerable and so soulful. She gets better. Her pop tunes were what she was known for but it s her music this last 20 years that gets better.
She s also a songwriter.
Blessings.
Vincent Long
I agree Amy Grant is my other favorite. If one listens to all of her songs they are beautiful ! I love her last 3albums so much.
Blessings
An artist that wore his heart on his sleeve and it dripped out in the music, it's a shame he had to go as soon as he did. He was a blessing to have push the envelope of being genuine.
One of his best !!!
Rich Mullins was an incredible musician! Watch some of his concerts playing piano and dulcimer--an outstanding original writer of music. What I appreciate most about his songs is the raw honesty and humility of his heart and spirit that flows through each one. I used to listen to some of his songs back in the 90's, but really didn't pay attention. A renewed interest came with watching the movie Ragamuffin--the story of his life. Watch it and be moved.
@Connie Oliver ragamuffin is trash... watch homeless man... and if you dont cry you should question your relationship with God
+noneofyourbusines244 raggamuffin showed that he was human not a christian artist..
I can't find the "homeless man" movie, can you please reply with a link?
I guess you already know, but just in case you don't Ritchie never used to write any of his lyrics down he had them all in his head.
it is so beautyful
God's grace put to music
thanks Rich I love you
I miss you so much brother...but I am sure we will meet...
I am so happy to stumble uppon his music......I only just found out about him......how? I mean...I can't believe I was missing on something so wonderful all this time. May his soul rest in peace...
@Artemis Zannou Rich was an amazing man, not perfect, but perfectly humble and honest in a way that Jesus always seemed to love and honor. The movie that came out about Rich's life a couple years ago does a pretty good job of portraying Rich.
+Artemis Zannou - glad you found his music. He was an awesome artist. He is a favorite of me and my wife; we had the pleasure to get to see him in concert once. This is one of my favorite Rich songs probably because he is baring his heart and soul so much in this song.
Rich has always reached deep down in my heart and brought out thoughts, prayers, that I couldn't bring out like he could. What a great artist and humble man.
He puts into words thatI could not,
He said in an interview that this song was about his break up with a girl he and been deeply in love with and she married someone else.
noah Wilson-Lynch Her choice and considering what happened I'd say she made the right one.
he was honest about his weakness
Rick Beam
We are not as strong as we think we are.
What a very profound and beautiful song. Love requires grace (last part) my takeaway
Miss you Rich !!!!!
Rick Beam
I also find that In Amy Grant s music. She s so vulnerable.
🕊🙏🏻
I am motivated and moved by his honesty which is so rare to find. He was who he was, didn't try to be something different. The movie Ragamuffin, is about his life, was recently released shows his dark side but his relentlessness of always turning back to the light.
How are things Franafly Bye? I am curious about what has happened in the last year?
@FRANAFLY BY How are things? I am curious about your life over this last year?
Thanks for asking.
It's been a difficult year. My son is still missing as of November 1st it's been 2 yrs. Still no closure.
My life has changed drastically these past two years however my faith in God keeps me pressing on. I'm looking forward to Christ's soon return. This world is not my home.
I am amazed... How through such trials your still able to draw close to
God. I would have to say that your devotion will be rewarded, just keep
trusting, even in the face of failure and discouragement. God knows all
things... and His word does not return void. .. "Hold me Jesus, couse I'm
shaking like a leave.. You have been my King of glory, wont you be my
Prince of Peace." Rich Mullens
Blessings

I did not know there was a movie about him. Thanks. I will be looking for it.
what a horrible death. thrown out of his jeep then ran over by a semi.. poor guy his music is awesome!
The wicked one wanted revenge but guess what? I don't think that Rich is going to have to worry about eternal torment! :)
rick lopez
He went out in a chariot of fire (cars are modern chariots) and I believe he was just instantly changed to his immortal body.
did you see he actually prophesied his own death. he said he had a dream where he was on a 4 wheeler n was thrown off and run over by a truck. 3 months later it happened (but he was in a jeep). strange.
One of my favorites artist...love his style
This profound statement will have a strong tendency to ring ever stronger in this end time, individually and collectively in the body of Christ and the nation if we dare made the indescribably horrifying mistake of forgetting the God of the bible. Which we are doing and have been doing for the longest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
<3 one of the best Rich Mullins songs ever ever ever.. "And with these our hells and our heavens so few inches apart" haha so true!!
my favorite line in the song. Because it's so true and good to remember...
It´s interesting..The cover of this CD has impacted me like few others...The fact that Rich covers his face to me shows surrender and humility..
Anneli Solomon fabulous
Rich Mullens, R.I.P., never walked a "fine line" between good and evil. He was the epitomy of what most Christian artists today should be more of. He was human and admitted it, but his glory was always in Christ Jesus!
Rich Mullins was one of the most interesting Christian musicians I have listened too. I saw your comment about this photo looking dark and evil, and I wanted to say I think your right. To me, part of Rich Mullin's charm was that he tried really hard to be good, but he would never say he was innocent. From what I have heard of him, he does not strike me as the kind of person to say I can do no wrong. Where has that kind of Christian gone? Maybe he knew something we should not have forgotten... :(
One of the first things I want to do when I get to heaven is to thank Rich for being obedient and writing the songs he wrote before he left us...I pray that others will think the same about me the day I'm gone.
Listening to Rich Mullens, I think of Keith Green and Larry Norman..The three of them were different from the rest of the bunch and they made a difference with their music...One can't help but wondering why they had to go so soon..Only God knows what he needed them for..
What an impact he left with his music. Oh, how my husband and I miss seeing him in concert. We could have listened to him talk and sing for hours and not get tired. He truly was one of the best Christian lyricist there has been. He could coin phrases together beautifully that would leave such an amazing picture in your mind. I miss his child-like personality coupled with Biblical wisdom that he would impart at his concerts. Gone TOO soon Elijah!
WOW...Thanks so much for posting Songs 2...Rich Mullins if definitely one of the best christian lyricists EVER!!! God Bless you!
