Rich Mullins - Here In America Lyrics
Saints and children we have gathered here to hear the sacred story
And I'm glad to bring it to you with my best rhyming and rhythm
'Cause I know the thirsty listen and down to the waters come
And the Holy King of Israel loves me here in America
I hope you feel the oceans crashing on the coast of north New England
I wish I could be there just to see them, two summers past I was
And the Holy King of Israel loves me here in America
And if I were a painter I do not know which I'd paint
The calling of the ancient stars or assembling of the saints
And there's so much beauty around us for just two eyes to see
But everywhere I go I'm looking
And once I went to Appalachia for my father he was born there
And my soul is still there with them wrapped in the songs they brought
And the Holy King of Israel loves me here in America
And I've seen by the highways on a million exit ramps
Those two-legged memorials to the laws of happenstance
Waiting for four-wheeled messiahs to take them home again
But I am home anywhere if You are where I am
And if you listen to my songs I hope you hear the water falling
I wish I could be there just to see them, two summers past I was
And the Holy King of Israel loves me here in America

Rich Mullins Here In America Comments
I love this song. Rich was so good.
Paul McCartney would have loved Rich. Miss his music.
Miss Rich and love this song
I hope the US can go back to this standard. There's no better way.
Beautiful☺
It's not only his ministry, but his life that many popular evangelists need to learn from. For Rich Mullins, it was all about Jesus.
I miss Rich love this song
Hearing Rich sing makes me ache for heaven.
God bless our brother Rich Mullins!
Theres no song that can give me the sense of home as much as this one. Just a beauty.

It's funny, I really didn't like this song when it first came out, and I got really really tired of hearing it on the radio.
Now I love it.
Is that Beaker with him in this video?
We need a voice like Rich Mullins in the here and now more than ever. I get the sense he would be appauld where she is today. I miss your raw open honesty, the way you immersed your lyrics in sweet poetry. Such a talent, can't help but wonder what sound you'd be producing today. Jesus is undoubtedly proud.
Rich Mullins makes me homesick for heaven!
He is so talented and so humble not care. Yes, his confidence is in Jesus.
I love this song ! ❤
I too am a raggamuffin
I believe i am a ragamuffin
One of my favorite songs by Rich. I enjoy that most of the video, somewhat ironically, was shot in Ireland, another beautiful spot with some thin places.
Sometimes it is hard to listen to Rich's music...

Rich's music puts a new song in my heart! I've been listening to his music & it's Re-birthed my love of music!
Bow down before the King of Glory. Thanks, Rich for reminding me. Miss ya. Shalom, everyone. Shalom.
The Best of Christian Music. Rich Mullins is the Greatest!
AHH...LOVE YOU RICH!!! RIP BROTHER
A girl friend of mine turned me unto Rich. She even treated me to a concert of his. I was glued ever since. I just Love folk music, especially the Dulcimer, with which he played, and so well. That was shortly after 'Never Picture Perfect' came out. I followed Rich to the end of his days. It was so heart-breaking that he died right after Princess Diana died. What a bad month! --But Rich's music ~changed my life, and for the good. Pointed me in the right direction, which I so desperately needed at that time. I thank God for creating Rich Mullins. Where would we all be, if he had never been born?
Amen! I have been transformed by Christ through this man. I only hope God uses all of us... so that we can be lights.
so have I. just crazy how God has used his struggles and so he could bless so many of us
The first time I had ever heard the voice of Rich Mullins, was on the radio; the DJ kept stating, "the late" Rich Mullins"! I love his songs so much, I went out & bought his tapes! To introduce him to my husband, I bought his CD's after we got married! We live them!
I thank my Lord Jesus, because having just found the music by third day, I found Richards music. praise God for song writers, who can put into words what I (and many others) only whished I could .so thank you song writers.
Never understood the "once I went to Appalachia, from a Father he was born there" until seeing the Ragamuffin movie. He's talking about Brennan Manning, and then the kids at the Navajo reservation.
Greatly increased my appreciation of the song.
No -- he's talking about his biological father. John Mullins. The Navajo live in the West -- Appalachia is in the East.
@Michael Jay they're two different things, in a couple separate lines.
"Father God" was Brennan Manning's thing. Rich taught music theory to Navajo kids.
Two different things together in a verse.
Ohio isn't Appalachia.
Umbrian2003 The lyrics are "I went over to Appalachia, for my father he was born there." He is referring to the town called Appalachia in Virginia. His father was born there. Hence why he mentions the mountains in that verse. He was 21 when he wrote that song. WAY before he had ever heard of Brennan Manning and went to the reservation.
Oh, if only more Americans loved the Holy King of Israel! Miss ya Rich.

Honestly, I grew up hearing his songs in the car all the time, and they have become anthems of my life. I deeply wish I could have gone to one of his performances just to shake his hand and say how much his songs have helped me to go through life. Hope I get to see him when the day finally comes.
i love you because i know you know!
me too!
Peace an safety. Amen
Psalm 37:37 Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright:
for the end of that man is peace.
"Those two-legged memorials to the laws of happenstance
Waiting for four-wheeled messiahs to take them home again"
Considering how he died, that line almost seems prophetic.
Ok, he went out with more courage than Elijah.
But I thought it was a semi

I like people but I especially like people like you: I thank you for being intuitive. And now you may now thank Him (Hashem? no; יהוה)
Yours is my favorite YT comment i’ve read today. Blessings to you!
Wonderful song from a man full of wonder.
Помню передачу на радио "Континент" 100,9 FM в память о его внезапной смерти в автокатастрофе... Я плакал как ребёнок...
Alex, losing Brother Rich was very sad. Even so, I praise “The Holy King of Israel” for letting me hear Holy Spirit then and now.
Алекс, потерять брата Рича было очень грустно. Однако я восхваляю «Святого Царя Израиля» за то, что он позволил мне слышать Святого Духа в музыке Брата Рича, как тогда, так и сейчас.
I love Rich. I love the message that he spoke of with courage and without apology. I do not like that "Vevo" is marketing his music and more importantly his message. Woe to you, Vevo. Repent and return, that you may receive times of refreshing from the Lord. Selah.
Tanner A huh? what are they doing?
Yeah, I'd like to go to Ireland too. I know your not supposed to boast about tomorrow and iv e recently leared a lesson in that but I think it is at least feasible for me. I guess I don't need to put my plans ahead of God's or God himself who died for me. Rich is such a great reminder of Christ's love. I have nearly all of his songs from his albums on a playlist on my channel if your interested. In Love Jeff
What's funnier is that it reminds me of Romania. But I just got back, so everything reminds me of Romania :-)
ironic and funny that this song Is here in America but it was shot in Ireland. I got a chuckle out of that
It's a song about heritage, and Rich's was Irish. (French-Irish to be specific. ;) )
AWESOME! Got quite a bit of Irish in me myself.
Most of it was filmed in Ireland.
Funny that there is a scene in here that is obviously not filmed in America. Can you spot it? Most likely that scene was filmed in Ireland.
Me too... :'(
My first video for 2013
Rihanna in the sidebar = the definition of sacrilege.
You ought to check out Andrew Peterson (specifically his songs The Reckoning, Many Roads, etc.)...lots of people consider him to be the heir to Rich Mullins, in a way. Andrew has a hammered dulcimer piece on every one of his albums as a tribute, so there's some truth to it. He wrote a song called Three Days Before Autumn about Rich's death that's really beautiful..
Love this song and video... but why was it filmed in Europe??
i love his songs <3 it makes me have joy :')
God takes the good ones too soon. I have no doubt Keith Green, Mark Heard and Rich Mullins are singing with the angels.
Alexander Strohschein let's sing with Rich !
i never met him but i miss his music and him too... he is my 2nd cousin once removed... i really miss him dearly... now i dislike 16 wheelers...
mmmm...Id highly recommend "I can only imagine" by Mercy Me and so much more. The 00's was probablly CCM's best decade...90's forever though.
I miss rich so much. and I miss his music.
@dadnjosh713
Those artist are good; Tenth Avenue North def. is. Aaron Shust (sp) is good, and def. Mark Schultz, but none can compare to Rich Mullins; though we are not to compare ourselves among ourselves.
So much beauty around us - just two eyes to see - and everywhere I go, I'm looking -
A BEAUTIFUL song and VERY well written & directed video!! :)
exelent...
I never knew you or heard of you before Rich until this video. I see from the comments that you've passed. May God Bless and Hold You....She/He doesn't let too many Irish musicians get away...I know that much. But what I set out to write was a simple thank you as an American of Irish descent who loves Jesus in America....see you when we get home Rich. Peace.
I love Rich! Love everything he wrote and sung... he is very deeply missed. I know I will see him again!
It is nice to take a moment to appreciate such talent. I smile to think our connection is in the God we both love and serve. See you someday, Rich.
So much beauty around us, and just 2 eyes to see -- and everywhere I go, I'm looking . . .
Oh man, I miss the 90's, back when both Christian and secular music were much better!
Love this song.........thanks for worshiping God with music.
Amazing song by an amazing artist. We miss you Rich.
Wow.....
