So the story goes that when they finished recording this album, they didn't like the production. In a drunken episode, they broke into the studio and "stole" the tapes and threw them in Lake Minnetonka. The only other copies of the recordings were on cassette which is what ended up being used to print the albums.

It's not more like Tim, it's just overcompressed. Even the original release of Tim had dynamic range. Ugly gated reverb and all that, but not smashed to hell like records now.
